Chapter Six

1043 Words
Lucas POV I took a seat in front of my fathers desk, next to Melissa. She was trouble. I’d made the mistake of enjoying her one summer when visiting the neighbouring pack of Blood Moon, and she had very quickly shown how much of a Class A Clinger she was. I’d done my best to shake her but clearly my best hadn’t been good enough. “What’s this about?” Looking from my father to Melissa. What trick did she have up her sleeve this time? “Melissa here has been telling me about your plans to take her as a chosen mate.. to strengthen the allegiance between Blood Moon and Blue Moon.” She’d done what now?? I stared at her, completely taken aback by her claim. She really thought this was the way to win me over? “That’s right baby, I don’t see the need to hide it anymore..not now that you’re back anyway.” She purred, smiling at me. She really was delulu. I laughed, and focused my attention back on my father. His face said it all, he wasn’t buying any of it. Thank god. “Do we have any good psychiatric facilities here? I think she may need to see someone,” I said bluntly. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her face fall. “What?! That’s what you told me last summer..you..you..” I held my hand up to her. “Let me stop you right there. Last summer I was doing my best to ignore my mate bond, with my fated mate, who is here at Blue Moon. I’ve since grown up and realised a fated mate is to be cherished. That being said, I never said those words as regardless I had no intention of taking a chosen mate,” I paused, “and even if I did, that chosen mate wouldn’t be you. With all due respect, Melissa, you’re not quite what I would consider Luna material.” I turned to look her in the eye, she was seething. Two she-wolves pissed off in less than 24 hours. This had to be a record. Melissa I was less bothered by though. “Well then, I think that’s that sorted. I apologise, Melissa, if you felt my son had given you any such impression..but as a pack we always put our fated mates first.” Ouch, okay that was a low blow but I deserved it. I’d messed around knowing who my fated mate was, I could tell my dad wasn’t happy with me for that. Melissa stormed out of the office, clearly pissed, but I didn’t really care. She didn’t know who my fated mate was, and if she did.. Evan could take her. “Dad, I..” “You have a lot of making up to do I’m sure, I won’t bore you with a lecture. As long as you are done with these gold-digger she-wolves. I can’t deal with these when other issues need my attention.” He was right, he shouldn’t be having to manage my love life or scorned exes. I nodded, “so what can I help with, now that I’m here..” Evan POV I’d watched as Lucas had taken off back to the pack house. At least I could finish my training in peace, though glancing back at Matt and Henry, the two were keeping a particularly close eye on me. Great. Was this going to be my life now? Luckily they didn’t interfere with the rest of the session, as I finished up I made my way over to them both. “So, you’re going to keep an annoyingly close eye on me aren’t you?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at them. They gave each other a look, “our lives aren’t worth living if anything happened to you, you know that.” Matt said, smiling sheepishly. I sighed. “He’s serious about this isn’t he?” They nodded. I shook my head and went to shower up. I needed to find Kayla and debrief. “Girl, you need to tell me everything? Lucas is your mate?! I mean, it makes sense but.. he was a..” “A d**k? Yeah I know. Ugh.. I just don’t know what to do. Obviously I want to just tell him where to go, but my wolf tells me to give him a chance.” I roll my eyes “You’ll thank me later,” Eve was really pushing the fated mate bond, and I know she wanted her mate too. But he had been so rude. Kayla bit down on her lip, “what? You agree?” I asked. We were sat out in the gardens on the lawn, a picnic style breakfast laid out in front of us that Kayla had put together. She was good with food, always had been. I never doubted her cooking skills or the concoctions she came up with. Today’s breakfast was simple, pastries and fresh fruit - just what I needed. “Well, it might not hurt to give him a chance, but definitely make him work for it.” I leant back on my elbows to make the most of the early morning sun. I guess it wouldn’t hurt. We continued chatting and laughing, reminiscing on the nights events and the fun we’d had. I made a mental note to go and see Luna Rose later, to say thank you for the celebration. Mid conversation, both of us were interrupted by a squawk..what on earth. “Daddy! It didn’t work! He denied all knowledge, what am I going to do?” Eugh, what a shrill little voice. I followed where it was coming from, that little she-wolf that had been draped all over Lucas when I first saw him stormed into view. Interesting, I wondered what that was all about? “Evan, where are you?” And here is where it starts.. “Currently enjoying breakfast and a show with Kayla, your little she-wolf friend is kicking off on the phone to daddy. What did you do?” Lucas didn’t respond. Seems like I’d hit a nerve with my comment, even though it had been in jest. That had me wondering.. what did he do?
