Small worlds

Adrian and I were walking along the beautiful town in Romania we were staying in when a man came up to me. "Would you happen to be a De La Cruz?" he asked, I smiled and blushed shaking my head. "Well I used to be but I've recently married so even though I kept my name, I'm not really a De La Cruz." I said realizing how confusing my words were. The man smiled holding out his hand. "I'm Aidan; I was a friend of your older brother Rafael's." I smiled shaking his hand. "I remember the day you were born; Rafael was so worried you wouldn't like him." I felt Adrian's arm tighten around my waist, he knew how talking about my brother made me feel. "I don't remember much about my brother... Would you happen to have any pictures of him that I could maybe get a copy of?" I asked kicking my foot anxiously in the dirt, Aidan smiled nodding "I have tons I could give you, also have some videos of when you were a baby if you'd like." Adrian spoke up before I could. "We're staying at the inn a few miles south of here, maybe you could bring them by so that Kiera could look at them." I was shocked at how relaxed Adrian sounded talking to this man we barely knew about coming to show me documents of when I was young, but the shock soon faded as I realized that Adrian knew how important it was for me to remember my family, he smiled at me before he looked up at Aidan. "Like my wife said she doesn't remember her brother as well as she'd like and I think it would be good for her to see documentation of her family before they died." I looked up at Aidan and smiled. "Adrian is right it's very important to me, I'm hoping that seeing documentation of my deceased family will help me remember who my family was." Aidan looked down at me his smile slightly fading, "I must warn you, your mother won't be in any of the photos or videos because she passed away giving birth to you." My smile faltered but I stood my ground. "That's fine I suppose but I'd still like to see the documents you possess if you don't mind." Aidan nodded. "I have some errands to run tonight; I'll bring them by tomorrow afternoon if that's alright." I nodded taking Adrian's hand in mine and smiled. "We'll see you tomorrow then, goodnight." Adrian and I turned and began walking in the direction of the inn we were staying in, the whole walk back I had the strangest feeling like there was more to the story of my family's death than even the Moroi court even knew. I awoke to the sun peering down at my bare back and looked over with half closed eyes to see Adrian laying against his pillow lightly trailing his fingers along my bare skin stopping at my lower back and moving up in a circuit. I looked up at him and sighed realizing that he was looking up at the ceiling. "What's wrong Adrian?" he looked down surprised. "It's nothing sweetheart." I smiled adjusting so that I was lying against his shoulder. "Don't worry we'll go home tomorrow." I said stretching slightly. "I just wanna be in our own home when I won't have to worry about old family friends taking my wife." He said pulling me into his arms, and sighed when we heard a knock on the door; he stood up pulling on his pajama pants and walked over to the door. As he spoke to whoever was outside I pulled the sheets closer to me covering my body. "... Alright tell him we'll be right down." He said closing the door. I patted the bed and winked inviting him back to me but he shook his head. "No my dear sweet Tails you and I have to go down to the lobby and talk to that Aidan guy." I laughed at the face Adrian made as I pulled out a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. "What it's not like I'll be wearing it very long knowing you." He smiled pulling me backwards against him. "Just wait till we get back up here and that friend of your brothers is gone." We laughed together as we went out the door. Aidan was sitting on a couch in the lobby when we walked down the stairs; I quickly turned to Adrian before we walked into Aidan's sight. "Adrian be nice just for right now when I get the information about my brother then we can forget all about Aidan forever, I promise." He sighed looking down into my eyes and smiled. "I love you Kier." He said softly taking my hand and leading me to the lobby and soon we were both sitting down and talking to Aidan about my brother and the rest of my family and Adrian held me closer to him when Aidan started talking about how sorry he was that my brother had passed. By the end of the day, I had over three hundred photos of me and my brothers and more of my entire family. As I stood up to get some water Aidan stood up as well offering me his hand. "Well Kiera, Adrian I have to go now, I hear you guys are headed home tomorrow so I wish you all a safe journey home and I hope you all have a happy life together." As he left, I yawned and sat down next to Adrian curling up against him. "That was a good talk I'm glad we set that up." Adrian laughed laying his arm across my shoulder. "Let's get you upstairs so you can keep the promise you made to me this afternoon," he laughed lifting the bottom of my shirt up just a little bit. "Besides those sweats are a little loose on you let's fix that, in fact let's take them off completely." I sat up and kissed him before quickly running up the stairs to our little room.
