Marcus had been talking about his mom all week like it was nothing.
“Mom’s been acting weird lately,” he said at practice, wiping the sweat from his forehead after we’d just succeeded in hitting a three point shot that broke the tie with the opposing team.
“Dad’s been gone for over six months now and she’s just… quiet. She stays at the kitchen counter every night and then drowns herself drinking wine. She keeps saying she’s fine, but you know how moms are.”
