Chapter 37 (part 2)

I glanced out of the window beside me and my smile began to fall. Chaos stood outside watching the two of us intently. I don’t care what Noah says, that bird still gives me the creeps. I don’t want to hurt him, I just want him to go away and stop eavesdropping. He’s been following ever since they put Noah down. I don’t know if it's Noah’s way of checking up on me in his sleep, or if the little demon just likes freaking me out, but I’d prefer Noah not find out like this, especially not now. I quickly made slow drops of rainfall as a warning before the new storm hit. I think I want privacy all night. He took my warning and obeyed. My attention was pulled away as someone slid in beside me and pulled me into their side. “Hi beautiful,” Jaylon greeted with a bright smile. “I see you’re in a good mood. I told you everything would be perfectly fine,” I beamed, placing a quick kiss on his cheek. “You were right.” “Don’t even listen to that lie,” Ethan blurted out as my head looked over at him. “What? Did you not have fun?” Jaylon sent a glare across the table but the boys found it hilarious. “Your mate there has a tracker on you,” Seth paused to say before erupting in more laughter. I slowly turned my head to look at Jaylon who sat completely still, refusing to utter a word. “Checked it at least once an hour,” Aiden added. “The bracelet doesn’t work,” Jaylon finally mumbled. “It only works if you need me. You didn’t need me and you know that.” I’m not mad, at least this is a start. When we mate tonight, he won’t need a tracker. Our minds and spirits will be connected. I smiled down at my jewelry trying to figure out which one it was, probably the first one he gave me. “All of them.” Now we know his obsessive need for me to wear them all. “Did you have fun?” He finally met my gaze with confusion on his features. “You’re not mad?” “No, why would I be mad? I find your little stalker act sexy,” I teased as he tried to hide his blush. He’s so cute. “Now answer my question.” “Yeah, the bar was kind of dead but you know entertaining these idiots can be.” “You took him to the bar?” I questioned, turning to Aiden with a cold glare. “Relax, it was the one in town. My aunt was working so it wasn’t like we got any a** in our lap,” he defended with disappointment in his voice. He is so lucky my food is getting put on this table or else I’d come across it. “I also said no substances.” I let out a low growl, refusing to take my eyes off of Aiden’s as the table went quiet. “You know I only use those when I’m in my feelings,” Jaylon whispered in my ear to calm me. Despite Aiden almost ruining it, tonight is going to be a good night, so I need to act like it. “Wait, where’s Nick and Dalton?” Julia asked in realization. “Dalton doesn’t party anymore and Nick is playing loverboy,” Benny explained. “You know how that is,” Jacob rolled his eyes. “When Nick’s in love, the rest of the world is a waste of space. . .” Ethan complained. “If you don’t leave him and Bridget alone,” I complained, rolling my eyes before ignoring them and turning my attention to Jaylon. I placed a gentle kiss on his lips and looked into his loving eyes. He has no idea what I have planned for him. After we ate and everyone was starting to tire out, I made sure the rain came down hard. They were still talking while Julia sat on the verge of exploding and I was taunting Jaylon through mind link. He says he’s the one that does all of the flirting so tonight he’s getting overloaded. I asked him to get up before pulling him outside with me. “What are we doing?” “I wanna go for a run,” I beamed up at him. “But it's pouring?” “Well at this point we’re already soaked so it doesn’t matter.” “But you hate mud.” “I don’t hate mud, I hate a mess. But I’m feeling a little messy tonight.” He raised an eyebrow at me before looking me over carefully. “Did Julia give you any substances?” “Can’t I just race my mate in the rain? Sounds a little romantic.” “You want romance?” I nodded my head before he pulled me close and gently pressed his lips to mine. The cool rain fell on our skin, but his warm arms protected me from the cold. It felt like time slowed for a minute as his lips held me hostage. For that brief moment in time, the world around us didn’t exist, even with the drowning rain to remind us. When he pulled away, one of his hands came up to my cheek as his thumb traced my lips. His blue eyes looked down into mine with nothing less than pure love. I recognized those eyes from the night I cuddled him in the shower. The only difference is that these eyes are happy, not lonely. I thought he was just out of it, but I’ve never let myself accept the fact that Jaylon loved me before. I don’t know when it started, but oddly I feel like it was before I came back.
