Part 2: Being In Love - Chapter 26

4704 Words
Part 2: Being in love Jaylon said we could take things slow, so I stayed with my parents last night, alone. I knew it wouldn’t last long though, he was too quick to agree to it. By eleven, I caught him sneaking into bed with me. I thought it was adorable so I didn’t get mad at him. “Come on, we’re going to be late,” Jaylon pulled me from the kitchen. “You two behave,” my mother warned from the breakfast table. I followed Jaylon to his car, sipping one of my aunt's teas he made me. It’s a bunch of special herbs to help with stress and anxiety but she makes tea for everything. They work better than any medicine. “So we need to discuss training today,” Jaylon began once he pulled out of the driveway. “What about it?” “Loren says she still has a headache so she won’t be attending today.” “Okay.” “I was thinking you could take a break as well. . .” “What do you mean?” “Nothing bad. Your job is to train Loren to protect herself. She won’t be there and I was thinking you could take a day off. Maybe try those weird breathing techniques Dimitry used to make you do?” “Breathing techniques? You mean meditation?” “Same thing.” “No, it isn’t,” I squinted my eyes at him. “Okay, well, either way, are you okay with that?” “Why wouldn’t I be?” “I thought you might miss me too much,” Jaylon smirked over at me. “You're right. . . I might get lonely. I guess you’ll have to make up for that too.” Jaylon surprisingly held my hand as we walked into school. Jaylon wasn’t truly a relationship type, not even with Loren. The only public affection they ever gave each other was s****l, so this was slightly unsettling. “What’s wrong?” I heard in my head. “You’re never nice to me at school, it’s weird,” I admitted. “Do you want me to be mean then?” I sent him a death glare, making him laugh. He looked uncomfortable as we stopped in front of my waiting friends. Yeah, they all talk when they have to, especially in group settings, but they never really talked to each other because they wanted to. I still haven’t figured out the actual reason behind it because everyone you ask has a different story. Dalton and Angelina defiantly stood on the other side of the hall. I don’t blame them. Until Angelina finds her mate, she wouldn’t be comfortable with it. Just before it was time to head to class, Bridget and Loren walked in. I kind of feel bad for them, which is the only reason I haven’t turned Loren in. The girl has no one other than Bridget. Because of their friendship, people started to turn their backs on Bridget also for choosing Loren over her Luna. I didn’t see it that way though. If people wanted me to turn my back on one of my friends I’d probably choose to be excommunicated too. Despite how much my heart hurt for my cousin, I don’t plan on forgiving either of them. Nor do I plan on ignoring the promise I made. I will kill them if they try to sleep with Jaylon again. Loren decided to test my seriousness behind that by stomping up to Jaylon with Bridget behind her. “This is just ridiculous Jaylon!” “What is?” Jaylon turned around to face her. “Your little wanna-be relationship.” “Wanna-be?” I questioned from behind him. She’s one to talk. “Loren, don't start. You’ve known about this for days. You’re only acting up now to start with Alison.” “But we didn’t know you were getting back together with her,” Bridget stepped forward. “You literally said you wouldn’t,” Loren added. “Obviously it would happen one way or the other. It doesn’t take a genius to know that your little three ways would come to an end,” Julia joined in, walking in front of Jaylon to face the two of them. As you can see, she’s very tired of this situation. “This is none of your business!” Loren glared. “It’s gonna be my business in a minute when I drag your ass across the hall,” Julia continued. “Julia,” Seth warned beside her. “Aww, Alison’s little sidekick. Always the protector,” Bridget smirked. “I wonder, did you step in for Jaylon over the past two months?” Loren squinted her eyes before the chaos erupted. Julia jumped on Loren, sending her to the floor before Seth tried to pull her off and Jacob pried her hands off Loren. Jaylon and Bridget began arguing as Dalton came over to give the same lecture. Penelope was yelling over them all to calm the situation as everyone crowded around to watch. I watched, horrified at the effect this had on my friends. Suddenly the lights above exploded and the school fell quiet. Oh no. The situation resulted in every light bulb busting so school closed for the day until maintenance could replace them all. Everyone praised me on their way out, but Bridget, Loren, Julia, and I were called into Malachi’s office the second we arrived at the packhouse. I’m scared. I’ve never been in trouble a day in my life. Julia on the other hand sat beside me smirking at Loren’s messed-up hair and bloody nose. Loren refused to look at anyone and Bridget sat staring straight ahead lost in thought. The second Malachi opened the office doors, the two lifeless beings jumped up in their seats arguing that it was all my fault. By the time he got to his desk, he was already over this discussion. Ingrid sat on his desk beside him giving them both the look. “Loren it appears you’ve broken your record. Now you’ve made it to my office before 6 am,” Malachi started. “I did not do this!” She protested. “You never do,” Ingrid mumbled. “Bridget?” “Alison started it!” “By doing what?” Neither of the two could make up an excuse so Ingrid turned her attention to me. “What happened, Love?” “They were upset to see Jaylon with me and then accused Julia of being my side lover.” “This is just ridiculous. What purpose does she have here? Honestly. If she leaves we could get Bridget’s head out of her ass,” Julia started. She isn’t wrong. . . “See! I feel this was a personal attack against me!” Loren whined before starting the sob story that we all know word-for-word. I get that her life's tragic but that is no excuse for all of the things she does. “Loren, we’re losing our patience with you,” Malachi warned. “But-but I won’t get in trouble anymore! I will behave so well you won’t even know I’m here!” She began to plead. “Alison, at your old school, how did they punish for things like this?” Ingrid turned back to me. “They didn’t believe in staying out of the classroom. Instead, they were punished with community service.” Loren inhaled deeply, turning back to me as if I’d just murdered someone. “Perfect. Loren and Bridget will be helping sort books in the library the rest of the week,” Ingrid smirked at the two of them before nodding for them to leave. The second the door closed we could hear them both complain the whole way to the library. I’m not exactly sure why. Very few people use the library. “Julia, you know she’s human.” “Yes but she’s always on something. She and Jaylon weren’t even in a real relationship! They did nothing but sleep with everyone and party! It was just for his title,” Julia argued. “Yes, we know that. But the point is, she’s human. She’s fragile and we have nowhere to send her. We can’t just put her in the human world because she will retaliate. We would have to put her down,” Malachi explained, saying the last part in a hushed tone. “We’re raised to protect and respect our Luna. I am honoring that.” I grabbed her hand and smiled over at her. She’s my girl. I can always count on her. While the others trained, I sat on the forest floor trying to concentrate on my surroundings. I’ve been trying for twenty minutes but my concentration is always broken by a wolf passing by and mind linking me confused at what I’m doing. Eventually, I locked into my trance as the elements began to swirl around me. A small smile crept to my lips at my success. My eyes shot open as I felt something. A flame was lit in my palm but quickly went out before revealing a letter. Huh? I ripped it open and looked down curiously at the writing. It was a thank you card from St. Augustine’s Academy of the Dark Arts. But, it was also an invitation, for an hour from now. I know this wasn’t the smartest thing I have ever done, but now is the time in my life to thrive off of stupid decisions. I rushed home to shower. Then quickly did some makeup to make me look less sickly and put my messy hair up in a bun. I dressed in a suit to keep it professional. Now, having only ten minutes, I was trying to think of where I found the girl in the woods when I blinked in front of a huge stone castle. Oh so now my magic wants to be useful! The excessively large doors creaked open and two men stood inside them. The girl I saw in the woods looked like a normal teenage girl, so I have no idea why I imagined them all to look so odd. Walking in, I didn’t see anyone until I heard someone call my name. They magically burned a letter into my hand and now they know my name. . . what have I walked into? “Alison, I was wondering when I would see you again!” A man that looked to be in his early twenties greeted, shaking my hand. Again? “Hello, may I ask your name?” “Oh yes. I am Elgar Morelock. I was an old friend of your grandmother. She told me all about you.” “She did? She died before I was born?” I asked, very confused. “Time travel, my dear. Witches spend most of their time in the future or past, rarely the present. Don’t worry, I met you years ago. We’ll be good friends,” he sighed. “I invited you here today to have dinner with some of my professors and star students! I was honestly surprised when my daughter told me she ran into you in the forest. The werewolves have kept you well hidden.” “May I ask how she knew who I was?” “You are your grandmother's spitting image.” “Your daughter knew her?” “No, she is your age, but she has seen pictures and paintings.” We walked through what looked like an empty castle, but I knew that was far from the truth. I’m sure it's just like the pack house on work days. We reached a small dining room and now I got to see a few people. “Thank you,” the girl from the other night whispered in my ear as the guard's closed the doors behind me. “You never told me your name.” “My name is Cassie,” she replied, smiling up at me shyly. I returned the smile and sat in the seat Elgar pulled out for me. “Ah Miss King, my name is Cassandra Thorn, I am the second head of this institution. It is so lovely to finally meet you,” a tall, thin woman beamed sitting beside me. Maybe ten other people sat at the table. I was introduced to everyone at the table but the only ones that stood out to me though were Sebastian, who was a professor, a few kids that seemed to make Cassie nervous, and Noah. I don’t know why but he sent chills down my spine and for some reason that drew me in. I was completely mesmerized by his dark hair and bright eyes, but he chose to avoid eye contact and remain silent. Something about him just felt so familiar to me that it was as if I was missing something. “So, does your family know you practice magic?” Sebastian blurted out halfway through dinner. “Not exactly, but they know that I have it.” “Good, wolves are terrified of anything except themselves,” he mumbled. I see some tension there. . . “May I ask why?” “Witches are considered nature's servants, werewolves think of themselves as nature's warriors, and they think that vampires are nature's enemies. Witches tend to not pick a side and because of that werewolves treat them like they are evil. You know, your grandmother was feared no matter how much good she had done the past 500 years and the 500 she had done before she met your grandfather,” Elgar explained. “I have wondered several times what she had done that was so horrible.” “They don’t trust magic. I’m not sure why, she never did anything to suggest she would harm them.” “Did you grow up around here?” Sebastian asked curiously. “Not exactly. I used to visit every summer. Why?” “Your accent… it’s just so different than I expected.” “Oh yeah, well I grew up in the city so it’s slightly more confident than the pack’s. You know, they have not said a word about vampires to me. I mean I had only guessed your daughter was one because of the stake situation. Speaking of that, is that a common thing amongst friend groups here?” I questioned before the subject could slip. “Oh no! No Miss, that is a very rare occurrence here.” Cassandra blurted out. “Rare?” “Very,” She smiled nervously. I’m sure. . . “So, how do you know my grandmother,” I turned my attention back to Elgar. “I was one of her first mates and she was my first.” I looked between him and Cassie confused before he raised his eyebrows in realization and continued. “I told you she lived in the future. She knew I wouldn’t be her intimate mate, so she rejected me and we remained close friends. Mates aren’t always meant to be intimate, sometimes they're meant to be friends that guide you. But you’ll remain eternally in love with them regardless if you reject each other or not. Years after she met your grandfather, I found my second mate. Cassie’s mother. A human. A rare mating, but a beautiful one. Unfortunately, her human flesh couldn’t handle birthing a hybrid being.” My heart hurt looking at the sad eyes on the two. I felt terrible about bringing up the subject. Eventually, the table recovered from its silence and Elgar told me about my pack and his school's history. This is a school for not only vampires but also witches. It appears that those breeds tend to overlap often, but so far I’m the first to ever overlap with a werewolf. For some reason, vampires and werewolves cannot be mated, but witches can be mated to either. Witches and werewolves seem to avoid each other at all costs so my grandmother was the first to mix. It’s odd, but I guess it was something to do with the moon goddess. Maybe a Vampire/Werewolf mating would produce an unfair advantage? I’m not sure. Honestly, it feels like a Vampire/Witch mating would be the most unfair but I’m not in charge. Maybe it is a venom thing, who knows with that woman. Even after the table was cleared we talked and I convinced him into signing a treaty. I signed it with my blood, so it was unbreakable. Before I left, I spelled the document with protection from all things, magic included. I even made a few duplicates and magically hid them in random places. On the way back to the pack house, I was thinking over the wonderful night I’d had. I love history, especially surrounding my family. I stopped at one of the cliffs, looking at the huge moon over me, reflecting in the lake. The surrounding mountains made it look like a painting and I couldn’t help but stare in awe. A sharp headache soon came and I winced down in pain. The sky above me turned from peace to complete chaos as I felt eyes on me. I turned around to see my grandmother standing behind me, smiling sadly. “I see you met Elgar,” She stepped forward as I shot her a confused look. What is going on? What’s wrong with the weather? Why is my head hurting? She never shows up like this. She grabbed the amulet on my neck and I watched as it suddenly reappeared, glowing brighter than ever. “What’s happening? Are you doing this?” “I’m sorry, my dear. As your grandmother, it pains me to do this, but I must complete the prophecy,” she explained with a tear dropping from her eyes. I squinted my eyes at her in confusion before I heard thunder above me. A large bolt of lightning came down behind me and the ground under me fell. I hit my head on the way down into the water. Out of shock, I didn’t think to close my mouth before I fell in. My body filled with water and it felt like fire going down my throat. I was too weak to swim up to the surface. I watched the chaos of the sky above fade into blackness as I sank farther down. My grandmother said that I could only die in the hands of a white witch. It never crossed my mind that she’d be that witch. “ALISON! ALISON!” I heard above me as I felt pumping on my chest. I sat up, gasping for air, but ended up throwing up water. I looked to my right to see a scared and soaking wet Nick. “What the hell happened? Are you okay?” he blurted out as I tried to remember what happened. I looked behind him to see the red sky moving quickly above us, circling the lake. I’ve never seen red lightning before. “The prophecy. . .” I mumbled, staring into the beautiful chaos. “Prophecy? What prophecy?” “My grandmother. How did you find me?” My throat felt like sandpaper. “Jaylon was trying to find you and then he started freaking out, yelling in pain. I and some other people spread out to look for you, but I had a terrible feeling to follow the lightning,” he admitted. His eyes met mine and then he filled with fear. “What-what the hell happened? Your eyes, they’re black!” “Please take me back to the packhouse,” I scratched out. I can deal with my eyes later. He did as I commanded, reluctantly I might add. We walked into complete chaos that froze when Nick placed me on my feet. I could hear Jaylon in Malachi’s office losing his s**t and scared myself when I went full speed there. That’s a lot faster than normal. . . I stopped in front of my now frozen mate and placed my forehead on his chest. His tense body calmed as I pulled his hands up to cup my face. “Where did you go? I have been looking for you for hours! Why are you soaking wet?” he blurted out lightly, in shock. “I signed a treaty,” was all I could get out. I pulled the perfectly dry piece of paper out of my suit pocket and handed it to my dad and Malachi. They rushed to look at it as Jaylon pulled my head up to look into his eyes. He ran his thumbs over my cheeks as his eyes looked into mine with disbelief. “Why are you wet? What happened?” he asked again. “Grandmother. Nick got me out of the water, but my throat feels like sandpaper,” I explained through our link, seeing as though it was the only way I could talk. He looked at me horrified and pulled me into a bear hug. “Alison, you went alone and signed a treaty with the vampires?!” my dad boomed. “Yes, it’s unbreakable.” “They could have killed you! You aren’t even at full strength right now!” he yelled as Malachi and Jaylon did the same thing. “I saved Elgar’s daughter's life the other night. That’s why I ran off course,” I admitted and Malachi and my dad's faces calmed. Jaylon didn't, instead, he sent me a death glare. “I’m sorry, but you have to understand that they are very dangerous. Imagine if they had killed you or held you hostage. But I am proud of you, I never in a million years would have imagined this,” my dad apologized. I tried to give him a small smile, but Jaylon made me face his direction and looked deep into my eyes. I looked into his eyes as I felt my throat start burning again. The sound of his heart beating grew louder in my mind as my nails dug into my palms. His grip loosened on me and he backed up as realization crossed his face and he whispered, “You’re in transition.” “I’m what?” “No no no,” my dad mumbled as he came up to me, opening my eyes wide. “You’re grandmother killed you?” Jaylon questioned. “What? My mother?” My father added in. “She said she needed to complete a prophecy. . .” Malachi was at a loss for words as Jaylon and I's mothers walked in. “Don’t touch her, she is in transition!” My dad warned. Their faces filled with horror. “What prophecy could be that important?” My mother ignored him and came up to me anyway, looking into my eyes and opening my mouth. “I don’t know, but right now she needs to complete the transition,” my mother explained. She and my father broke out into an argument over what could happen if I did or didn’t complete it while Ingrid and Malachi kept their lips sealed. Jaylon looked me up and down. His eyes told me that he was thinking hard. “Come with me,” he instructed, grabbing my hand. “What?” The room questioned. “She needs to complete the transition. I’m her mate.” He dragged me out of the office, ignoring their protests behind us. He took me past all of the pack members who gave me faces of terror. When we reached his room, he sat me on the bed. He sat beside me but my eyes stayed focused on the wall in front of me. “You know, I’ve been wondering where Bridget gets it from but now I see it. She’s a backstabber like Grandmother,” I glared bitterly. “Baby, I know you’re upset but you need to feed. We can figure this out after.” “No, I can feed after. We need to summon her ass right back down here!” I argued, standing up but Jaylon grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. “Please!” I looked into his eyes reluctantly before our lips came together and I calmed. I didn't want to let him go, but he did it for me. His smell was driving me insane as I felt my teeth elongate in my mouth. I quickly bit down so it wouldn’t hurt for long and he winced in pain, before calming. The taste was amazing but I stopped the second I felt satisfied. I licked his wound and it disappeared immediately. That was nothing like the movies. I barely took any blood. A little over dramatic if you ask me. . . I placed kisses on the area as I felt my body slightly change. I felt stronger and more energetic than I had the first time I shifted. The thunder boomed outside causing his balcony doors to fly open. I ran over to the doors and smirked up at the sky above. “Beautiful.” “Ali, come back. We need to talk about this.” “Shh, don’t be a buzzkill!” “No, come here. How are you feeling?” Jaylon rushed over, making me look at him. “I feel f*****g amazing! It’s like electricity running through my body,” I beamed up at him before looking into his eyes. “You’re so handsome,” I mumbled, dragging him over to the bed. “I wanna mate.” Jaylon’s eyes widened looking down at me. “No, not right now. You’re just really excited.” “I know what I want. You’re mine. We’re mating now” I argued, slamming his back down on the bed. I crawled on top of him, ripped his shirt off, and began placing kisses all over his chest as his lights went out and the fireplace lit up. I’m determined. “No, I'm serious. Not right now. But I love your enthusiasm,” Jaylon smirked, trying to play it off. “WHY? Is it because of your little human w***e?” “No, it’s because if I mate with you now, you’ll kick my ass when you regain control over yourself.” “No, I won't! Mate with me!” I whined the last part. “No.” “Fine then, you’ll just make it more interesting. . .” “I have to be the one person in this whole world you refuse to have s*x with!” I complained after failing at trying to mate with him for hours. “It’s taking everything in me to say no,” Jaylon breathed out on the bed beside me. He’s still recovering from my last episode. “Then why are you saying no?” “Because you aren’t yourself right now. Your emotions, everything is heightened. You have been begging me all summer not to mate and now you’re begging me to do the opposite. When you are the one asking and not your hunger, we will talk.” “Ugh, why are you like this!” I complained, getting up and storming to my room across the hall. I’ll admit, I am acting crazy, but I want it. It physically hurts from how badly I want it. Of course, he always does things the exact opposite of what I want. “Come back,” I heard in my head but ignored it. I threw my sheets back and cuddled myself. I mean now I could see he was right because I would never act like this, but I refuse to admit that. “I said, come back,” he warned, now in the room with me. I continued to ignore him and he sighed, getting in the bed with me. I smirked to myself when he cuddled with me. I’ll let him sleep for a while and try again. I turned in his arms so that my face was buried in his chest and he placed a kiss on the top of my head. “Now behave."
