Chapter 30

2696 Words
I went to wake my girl up early for her birthday, but she wasn’t in her room. I didn’t think about her turning this morning so I guess she was out running around somewhere. Welp, scaring her would work just as well. I hid in one of the corners of her room and waited, using magic to mask myself. She should be back soon. She turned around twelve, it was four and she would be tiring around now. It’s Julia we're talking about. Wolf or not, I’m surprised she lasted this long. A few minutes later I heard her running outside and then walking downstairs. A brown wolf walked into her room and stopped in its tracks. She searched around but couldn’t find anything and shifted right in front of me. I popped out of the corner yelling happy birthday causing her to scream. “What the hell?” “Damn, awfully moody for a birthday girl,” I joked, turning on the lamp beside me. “What are you doing here at four in the morning? I’m naked!” she complained, walking into her bathroom and grabbing a robe. “What kind of friend would I be if I wasn’t here to ask you about your transition?” “Well did you have to scare me?” “No, but you’ll remember it,” I smirked, sitting in one of her chairs. “Happy Birthday,” I beamed, pulling out a Cartier bracelet that matched mine. Her face lit up and she ripped it from my hands, immediately putting it on. I knew she would love it. “Ali, I feel bad. I didn’t get you anything for your birthday.” “You didn’t even know me on my birthday,” I laughed out. “Are you hungry?” “I’m starving.” I went down to the kitchen to make us both breakfast while she dressed for the day. “There you are,” Jaylon mumbled irritatedly while he made my tea. He says it will help with stress so he makes it every morning. He’s dedicated and I love it. “I told you where I was going.” “Yes, forever ago, even though I begged you not to. You didn’t say it would take so long.” “20 minutes?” He turned around and lifted me onto the counter. “Come back upstairs with me,” Jaylon whispered in my ear. There’s no reason to make this difficult. He can spare my attention for a few minutes while I make her breakfast. “No, I need to make Julia breakfast as I promised. I’ll be all yours tonight, you know that. Maybe even some time in between classes. . . How about, after breakfast? I can blink us to class.” I smiled up at him. He let out an annoyed growl and slammed his hands down on the counter on either side of me. I sat up in shock and looked into his dark eyes. “We are finally where we need to be and now you're ignoring me for your friends?” Jaylon questioned, gripping my thighs with his nails. The sad part is I’m finding this attractive. . . “I’m not ignoring you, you know that,” I defended, fighting every urge in my body. “Yes. You. Are. I have needs and you think I’m going to wait hours for it!” “Jaylon we just had s*x thirty minutes ago and I don’t think anything. You are going to wait until tonight!” I explained, making him roll his eyes and turn back to my tea. He poured it into a cup for me and left. He’s so overdramatic. He will be fine. He could have waited until after breakfast. We could have done it in between classes like we usually do. But no it just had to be right here, right now. I closed my eyes irritatedly for a second before reopening them and breathing out. It’s going to be just fine. Ever since the incident in the woods three weeks ago, we have been inseparable. We also haven’t been able to keep our hands off of each other longer than an hour. We were fully addicted to each other. Jaylon was being a gentleman about it though. We’ve been hiding and denying it at all costs. Not because either of us is ashamed, but because he likes privacy. It’s fun to keep a secret between the two of us and I guess Nick. Also, it keeps Ingrid at bay. She’s been begging for us to mate, insisting that she needs grandchildren soon. Jaylon is ridiculous. After I took breakfast to her room, we ate and she left to go spend some time with her parents while I went to school. When I went to find him, I found that my lovely mate left me there. Petty. So that’s what we’re doing now? Seth saw me speeding around like a crazy person trying to find him, so he let me ride with him to school. “Ali, I don’t know what you did, but you smell amazing today,” Seth started as I watched the trees passing us. “Oh, so I smell bad on other days?” I joked. “No! I am not saying that. You smell good. You always smell. . . really good. But I’m saying today you smell so good I’d take you right here,” he explained as I raised my eyebrows and gave him a warning look. “Oh come on, you know I would never. I’m just saying. But if Jaylon was off the table and you smelt like that? We would not be going to school right now,” he smirked as I rolled my eyes. I’m not irritated though. I know exactly what he smells on me. But he doesn’t, yet. I knew it. Honestly, I should have taken bets. Jaylon was quiet for the most part, but his mood was gone once I got to school. He stayed by my side during school and while I decorated the pack house. I think his social battery is out today. Before I left with the girls to get Julia and Penelope, he gave me his card and ordered me not to touch a penny of my own money. I don’t like people paying for me, but he takes it personally every time I pay for anything. I can’t complain though, more money for investments. Currently, I was in the dressing room helping them pick out clothes. I don’t have any more room in my closet for clothes, so I stayed out. I brought Sarah and Autumn with me so they could have a girls' day. Julia thinks Sarah and Autumn are boring and Sarah doesn’t trust Julia or Penelope, but I’m trying to spark a friendship. We, or they, discussed pack gossip and wondered who Julia’s mate would be until the subject of Jaylon and I made its way to the table. “I was worried at first, but I think Jaylon would be an i***t to hurt you, again. You bring out the best parts of him,” Sarah admitted across from me after tapping out of shopping. “I do?” “Yes, he’s so in love with you,” Autumn replied, walking out to get our opinion on her dress. “The way he looks at you is the sweetest thing.” “Wait, you think so?” “Girl! He acts more and more like his old self every day and is always smiling down at you,” Julia giggled from her dressing room. “Obviously you two haven’t mated, but have you. . . you know? I mean you two have been inseparable since you were in heat,” Sarah asked awkwardly. “No, Jaylon agreed to wait,” I lied. Look I don’t like lying to them, but Jaylon and I have our own little thing for now and I love it. “We just flirt a lot and cuddle. He’s so sweet. He’s made everything a routine now to keep my sleep schedule the same so that my emotions and thoughts will be more balanced. It pairs well with the teas. Jaylon wakes me up at three and we run in the forest so that when Dimitry gets back, I won’t be thrown off. Except for this morning of course.” “Aww! I think it’s so cute. I would have never imagined Jaylon to be like that,” Autumn beamed. “You haven’t slept with him and he’s being nice to you?” Penelope walked out of her dressing room with questioning eyes. She’s been weird today. According to Julia, ever since she got home this morning she’s been sunshine and rainbows. She was like that all day but now decided to stop. “Penelope, that’s his mate,” Julia explained. “Yeah, but Jaylon never liked her before. Honestly, I was thinking you two would reject each other by now.” My eyebrows widened at her as Sarah’s did the same and Autumn’s mouth dropped open. “Penelope! You cannot just say things like that!” Julia scolded, storming out of her dressing room. “I’m sorry, Ali. I didn’t mean for you to take it personally but you and Jaylon are so toxic together. Plus I thought the other guy was your mate,” Penelope continued casually. What’s wrong with her? She was on team Jaylon before and now she thinks we’re toxic? When we’re happy? “We’ve been so happy lately. . .” I mumbled shyly. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Julia questioned, sitting beside me and sending a glare to her sister. “I think you and Jaylon are growing together beautifully,” she smiled at me reassuringly. “Thank you.” Our trip was kind of awkward after that since no one knew what to say, but Penelope immediately perked back up. I guess we’re all entitled to have a few days where our emotions are everywhere. Today was Penelope’s. That doesn't mean it didn't hurt my feelings though. They killed me with the radio the entire ride to the packhouse. I sighed with relief getting out into the quiet garage. Finally! We all followed behind Julia excitedly, ready for her to see who her mate was. When we walked through the doors, I was being tortured all over again. See, I don’t understand how these people can sit here with the music this loud. We all have supernatural hearing, this is painful. I pushed through my growing migraine and annoyance as Julia tensed and her eyes searched the room. It is happening! I jumped up excitedly when I realized I was right. Julia and Seth pushed through the crowd towards each other in the spur of the moment. They didn’t waste any time. They attacked each other and I turned away awkwardly being met with the girls' open mouths. “I love being right,” I gloated. “How did you know?” Penelope questioned. “I know my girl. That is a perfect mating, my love,” I smirked. They watched as the remainder of our friends made their way behind us with matching expressions. “You know little bit, your little psychic abilities are starting to freak me out,” Ethan admitted. “Nothing psychic about it. It’s about reading people. They’re perfect for each other. Think about it, she is the girl version of him. It’s so sweet,” I smiled to myself. “Now hopefully they can stop making out long enough to appreciate all of the decorations,” I jokingly yelled before they disappeared upstairs. Well, I’ll appreciate the decorations for them. The boys were already drunk. They have been drinking since I left to pick up Julia and Penelope and the fact that they were still standing is amusing. “So, Ali, where’s Jaylon? I thought you two were attached at the hip now,” Benny mumbled drunkenly. “Oh no, not yet,” I smirked. “He’s avoiding her,” Penelope mumbled before walking off. I squinted my eyes in her direction but left it alone. He is not avoiding me. “What’s her problem?” Jacob asked from beside me. “I’m not sure. . . she’s been weird.” “She thinks Alison and Jaylon will reject each other,” Sarah explained. “What? Why would she think that?” Nick questioned. “I don’t know. She might just be over it. We all have our days,” I sighed. “I’m gonna find Jaylon.” “Have fun,” Autumn encouraged over the music. I smiled back at them before anxiously making my way through the crowd. I didn’t see him anywhere so I went upstairs. “What are you doing up here?” I beamed, jumping onto the bed beside him. “I wasn’t really feeling it.” “Are you okay? You’ve been quiet all day.” “Yeah, you’ve just been busy. Did you have fun?” “Yes, but I don’t want you to think I’m too busy for you. I’m sorry.” “Please don’t say sorry. You haven’t done anything wrong. Come here.” I crawled up and sat on top of him as he grabbed my hips and smiled up at me. “I missed you.” “You did?” “All day.” He looked a little dazed which worried me at first but I figured it had something to do with his mood. “I missed you too. So were you right? About Julia?” Okay, so I don’t gossip but I do tell Jaylon everything. It’s not like he cares enough to tell anyone. “Yep, it was Seth. I’m so excited for them.” “You’re excited for them?” “Yes. They finally found their person. That’s so exciting. But I’m worried about Penelope.” “Why?” he suddenly tensed, sitting up to level with my face. I slightly raised an eyebrow at him suspiciously. He must be really into the drama tonight. “She was beaming all day, which I loved to see, but every time you and I get brought up her attitude changes. She said we’re toxic and she thought we’d reject each other.” “W-why would she say that?” Jaylon questioned. His face looked like he couldn’t process what I just told him. “I think she’s worried. She knew Julia would find her mate tonight and you and I have been consumed with each other lately. Maybe she’s scared she’ll get left behind.” “You think? Her words were a bit harsh.” “She was so supportive of us before today. I’m sure that’s what it is. Maybe I should plan more girls' days or something.” Jaylon pulled my head into his chest and wrapped tight arms around my waist. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “For what?” “That she said that to you. I know it had some effect.” “Why would you be sorry? You didn’t say it. It did at first, but I know that’s not Penelope. I’ll talk to her tomorrow.” “You will?” “Yes. Now can we take a shower?” “I already took a shower. I think I’m going to make you some tea while you do that.” I watched confused as he moved me to the bed beside him and rushed out of the room. Okay then. . . that was odd. I grabbed pajamas on the way to the shower because something tells me I’ll actually sleep in them tonight. As the water heated up, I closely observed my reflection in the mirror. With the help of supernatural abilities, I’ve known for two or three days after realizing my body was preparing for something. A smile made its way to my lips as I daydreamed about the future. I wonder how long it will take before it shows on the outside.
