Chapter 11

My eyes slowly opened to the sun shining in them, which made me shut them and turn over. I felt the arm over me tighten and I pulled myself closer to their chest. My head was throbbing in pain and I was too afraid of the sun to open my eyes. The warmth of their skin felt amazing. I almost fell back asleep until I heard a voice in my head that made me want to hurt the owner. “What?” I asked, annoyed. “Come to my room. Hurry,” they rushed. I sighed in annoyance and very slowly removed the hands from me and stood up. This room looks familiar! I shot around confused as I looked at a sleeping Nick who I was just cuddling with. What the hell? I quickly found my shoes, bookbag, and hoodie lying on the floor beside his desk. I grabbed them and rushed out before he woke up. I went to knock on the door only to have it yanked open, revealing a very frustrated Dalton. His eyes glanced down to my neck and then angrily dragged me into his room and shut the door. “What the hell did you do last night? Are you crazy!? He is going to kill him!” he started rambling on as I looked at him confused. “Who is gonna be mad? Why are they going to kill someone? What happened?” Dalton grabbed my hand and dragged me into his bathroom as he flipped the switch. Once my eyes adjusted to the light I saw dried blood on my neck surrounding a huge bite. Oh hell. . . “WHO did that? Since I’m guessing Jaylon doesn’t already know, he’s going to kill someone when he finds out! Probably starting with your little cuddle buddy that I can smell all over you! Ugh! We don’t have time for this! Get in my shower and wash the smell off of you and I will find you something to wear. We can talk about this when you get out,” he demanded, grabbing me a towel from one of his cabinets. I did as he said, not in the mood to argue. I had no idea what happened last night, but I couldn’t imagine Nick being selfish enough to do that to me. But then I remembered when I was in his head and how we were laying when I woke up. I instantly felt guilty, praying in my head that it didn’t cause Jaylon any pain. Things like that can kill your mate, but I guess it's the witch in me that’s kept me protected. When I got out, I towel-dried my wet curls and put on one of Dalton’s hoodies that he left out for me to wear as a dress. I mean it could pass for one. Dalton’s torso was a lot longer than mine. I put on my running shoes that I was wearing last night and dug in my bookbag for a pair of sunglasses. My eyes were burning from all types of lights and I couldn’t stand it. When I found them, I put them on, shoved my dirty clothes into my bag, and put it on my back, walking out of Dalton’s room. I was shocked when I ran into my mother and Ingrid at the main entrance. My mother was going to kill me and I didn’t even know what happened. “I saw that you all escaped off of the island, after turning it into your new playground,” my mom started, with a smirk. “We did?” I’m completely lost. “Alison, I’m not mad. I’m glad you had fun,” she smiled at me. “Uh-huh. . .?” I decided to play along. I was just trying to get home as soon as possible. “Alison, we were coming to find you. Jaylon will be going out of town for another alpha’s birthday,” Ingrid started. “Oh, how exciting! That sounds so refreshing. I’ll pray for safe travels,” I smiled at her, trying to sneak past, but they made me stop. “Since my mate wishes to stay here, your mother and I agreed that it would be best if you went with him.” What? “Oh. . . why? Can’t he take Loren? Or Dalton? I’m sure he would prefer either of their company. Maybe Bridget? She would love that!” I offered as he walked down the stairs behind me. “I thought you would like to go out of town for a few days. It will do you some good. Also, I’m afraid you are more prepared for these types of settings,” Ingrid encouraged. “You're my mate. You have to come,” Jaylon explained irritably. “If this is how she’ll act I’m concerned.” Ingrid and my mother both shot him a look before turning back to me with fake smiles to hide their concern. “It is Alpha Black,” my mother added. “Wait, Dominic? I was gonna send him a gift but this is even better!” I jumped up excitedly. They shot me a relieved smile at my excitement. I was excited about seeing an old friend. I missed Dominic. I used to see him all of the time, but not as much since his father's funeral. Of course, I didn’t know he was Alpha, I just knew he was my dad’s friend’s son. “Oh great, the passed around Luna. What could go wrong?” Jaylon mumbled under his breath and I spun my head around in shock. Why would he say that? “Jaylon!” Ingrid began to scold him as my mother's mind linked me to how this would get better. On the other hand, I was holding back tears. The only person I have ever let get close to being intimate with me was him. He knows that. Yes, I do have a bite, but I’m sure something has happened that I will figure out soon enough. It couldn’t be bad. “Have you already called Joel?” I questioned quietly. “No, Joel is on vacation. I was going to call another pilot, but Jaylon thinks car travel would be best,” my mother explained. “I didn’t say that,” Jaylon argued but quieted at his mother's glare and my mother's growl. The thought of spending that long trying to cover my bite though gave me anxiety. Thankfully, he didn’t seem to be in any pain. I shall hide it to the best of my ability, but personally, I don’t think it matters. Yes, I know what I said, I don’t want to hurt him. But once we reject each other, it won’t matter. I guess this party was the only reason we haven’t yet. “Well Alison, I just feel I should warn you, Dominic is a lot different now,” my mom started. “Well, mom, I would assume the death of a parent and having to step up to rule a pack would change a person.” “I know sweetheart, I’m just warning you that he isn’t as kind as he used to be,” they both shot me worried looks. “I will be fine! It will be so relieving to see someone I grew up with who knows,” I said as Malachi walked into the room. “Ah, there you ladies are! Jaylon… I have been looking all over for you three. Have you asked her yet?” He smiled at us. “We just have, she is more than willing to go,” my mom stated. Jaylon stood there irritated. I didn’t understand his problem. Normally, when you do what someone asks, they are happy. He told me to leave him alone last week. I did that. Jaylon was pissed off either way. I think he’s frustrated at the fact he wasn’t going with Loren. I wished that they could, but unfortunately it’s not the moon goddess's plan. The fact that he kept looking toward my neck freaked me out and I slouched in Dalton’s hoodie so that my whole neck would be covered. “That’s perfect! I was worried about you two at first, but it seems Alison has some of her own alliances,” Malachi responded, giving me respectful praise. “You know Alison, she always has something up her sleeve,” Dalton tried to talk me up as he walked up beside Malachi. I tried to keep my fake smile, but Jaylon’s attitude had me trembling inside. Jaylon didn’t want to go anywhere with me. I understand that. If only he knew that I was perfectly fine giving him his space. Which is exactly what I plan on doing the entire time. “Well, you kids better start packing up, you're leaving in two hours,” Malachi cut the conversation short and I sighed with relief. With that, Jaylon walked out of the room and went back upstairs to the girl that was supposed to be his mate. Probably complaining about me in advance. “Don’t worry Alison, his father was the same way,” Ingrid stated, glaring over at her guilty-looking husband. “If he’s doing it for the reasons I think, he’s just making it harder and more painful for himself. I have lived to regret it myself, now I fear my son is repeating it,” he replied with saddened eyes. “I’m not upset. I honestly feel bad for him. . . and her. Is there any way we could take her? Dalton could go and pretend to be her mate,” I offered, making Dalton glare at me. “What? No. No! I am not doing that!” he jumped up, giving my mother a pleading look before anyone else had time to react. “Alison, honey, why would you want them together?” she questioned. “She makes him happy. I feel bad for them. They love each other so much.” At that, all four of them burst into laughter. I wasn’t joking. . . Dalton was standing at the bottom of the stairs playing with my nephews and I walked down with a small suitcase. He made it look like we were just having a casual conversation as he messed with the collar of my jacket and my hair to cover up the bite. “Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, let him see that! He was already questioning why you were wearing my hoodie,” I heard Dalton in my head. I nodded my head as I hugged my nephews and opened the door to see the parked car. Dalton went out to put my bag in the back of the matte black Maybach. I hugged him and he opened the door and closed it behind me. Now, what am I supposed to do for ten hours? I would bet a billion dollars that Jaylon’s dad didn’t want to come because he wanted Jaylon to get away from Loren long enough to mate with me, but I knew Jaylon, that wouldn’t happen. Part of Jaylon’s silent treatment was no music. This is just painful. Painfully boring. We didn’t talk or even glance in each other's direction. My phone had no service either, so my only options were to sleep or stare out of the window for ten hours. Why couldn’t we have just taken a plane? At least then I could talk to a flight attendant or something. Watch a movie. . . Honestly, I don’t care. I’m not the type of person that can stay still and quiet for long periods. The views were beautiful now and then, but at some point, I fell asleep. We would go over a bump every so often to slightly wake me up enough to be able to feel my surroundings. When I heard talking a couple of hours down the road though, my eyes opened slightly, before closing again. “Are you hungry?” I heard again, opening my eyes. I nodded tiredly. When I realized I had my head on him, I jumped up in my seat. “I’m sorry!” I blurted out tiredly and readjusted to sit up in my seat. I’m surprised he didn’t yell at me for clinging to his arm, but knowing him, he probably preferred me unconscious. “You're fine,” he replied emotionlessly. I was used to this side of Jaylon, this was the side I grew up with. You’d think I would be hurt from our brief relationship, but I’ve come to terms that it wasn’t real. Which is why I choose to forget it. I kept glancing in the backseat as Jaylon would occasionally glance at me as if I were an i***t. I could swear that someone is back there. No, I couldn’t see them, but I could feel their presence. Maybe I am an i***t. We stopped at a nice steakhouse and sat in silence waiting for our waitress. I couldn’t help but sit in thought. I was going over every possibility of what happened last night. None of them made any sense. Did I get drunk or something? Why would I ever do that though? I hate alcohol. The waitress came to drop off our drinks and take our order. He could flash her a bright smile and throw in some flirts as he ordered, which took me off guard. It didn’t surprise me that he was doing it. It surprised me that I cared. He isn’t mine to care about, but yet I do. Selfishly, I want him to flash me his bright smile and be kind. At least for a second, but I bit down those emotions as fast as they came up. I checked my phone to see the time. It was 6:15. We would arrive around 11:00 if our food got to the table in the next fifteen minutes. There were multiple messages on my lock screen, all from my friends, but mostly Nick. I smiled to myself as my feeling of loneliness calmed slightly, but then I remembered my bite and I was irritated with Nick all over again. I decided not to answer any of them. I flipped my phone face down on the table and felt eyes staring at me. I quickly looked up and, to my surprise, I felt something other than sadness or confusion for the first time in twenty minutes. I felt fear. Jaylon was looking down at my neck. I went stiff as he read my expression, gave me a confused look, and an annoyed eye roll before looking around the restaurant. I guessed from that expression that he hadn’t seen it. Or I was right, he didn’t give a f**k. Which, in that case, means he also feels no pain. I wonder if the pain comes from an emotional bond then? But then again, would that mean none of my emotions were real? Were they just in my head, like our relationship? After we ate, I didn’t feel like waiting so I put $300 on the table, leaving a $100 tip for her flirting with Jaylon to break the tension. “What are you doing?” He sat up quickly. “I got it. Save your money for your girl, Mi Amor,” I smirked, ready to be out of this restaurant, not trying to sound like a b***h, but it came out that way. I sped and walked out on the verge of jumping out of my skin. I don’t know why but he was tripping me out. I was breathing slowly my whole way to the car, then stood impatiently beside it. I didn’t think about the backseat having TVs. That’s something to entertain myself with. So, I decided I would specifically sit behind him so that we didn’t have a chance of looking at each other. I would have been happier sitting at the table with him AND Loren, because at least then it wouldn’t be painful silence, just me staring out of the window as they talked, or made out. I’m not exactly sure what they do, but they’d be doing it. Jaylon didn’t come out for a while. I have no idea why, but I appreciated it. I could use this time alone for a minute or two. It’s so hard to be next to him or in the room with him. His scent, the sound of his voice, the feeling of his eyes on me, and the way he makes my skin radiate when he’s nearby drives me insane. It makes it hard to do the right thing or even think the right thing. Just as I was steadying my breathing and clearing my mind, I saw him walking toward me with cold eyes. “What do you think you're doing?” Jaylon questioned as he came to a stop in front of me. “I want to sit in the backseat.” “No.” “But why?” “Because I said so.” “Please? I won’t bother you!” “You won’t bother me in the front seat! Now come on!” he growled, grabbing my wrist and pulling me behind him. The door was yanked open before he instructed me to get inside, which was followed by him slamming it shut. I know he did not just slam the door on a Maybach. . . I watched as he walked around the front of the car mumbling to himself about me. He’s such a kind soul. Jaylon got into the car with a clenched jaw. But he didn’t say a word. I didn’t mean to piss him off. I sat in the painful silence for the next four hours and even got to watch the sunset through the window. I felt like I had a hot branding iron down my throat and I was about to suffocate. When we finally arrived, I leaped out of the car and instantly rushed to the back, only to be stopped by Jaylon. He stood in my way, but he got my bag out and carried it himself. We were greeted at the door by Dominic’s best friend, Riley, and I walked up and hugged him. I was just as close to him as I was to Dominic and my skin was crawling to see my best friend. I could hear his voice in the distance as he was talking to his mom, who I loved, and just as I started, I felt a hand grab mine, but it slipped through my fingers as I bolted and jumped into Dominic’s arms for a hug. He spun me around and sat me back down gently, looking back at my perfectly calm mate. “Alison! You look so different!” This was the first response I got from him as I hugged his mother as if she were my own. “As I have heard every day since my birthday,” I replied, with a smile. “Maybe it's a weird bloodline thing, but aren’t you a couple of hundred years too young for white hair?” he asked, flashing a white smile. I made a confused face at the couple hundred years part but decided to ignore it for now. “Yeah, I’m not exactly sure, it just decided on my birthday that it was going to be white, but I’ve heard it suits me better!” “Oh yes, it does,” he replied, looking me up and down. I don’t think he was just talking about my hair. “The moon goddess broke the mold with you, didn’t she?” Dominic had never flirted with me before, so I gave him yet another confused look. “I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce you to my mate, Jaylon White,” I replied, changing the subject. They shook hands and nodded at each other before someone came up to Dominic and he told us that he would see us in the morning. Another boy our age showed us to the room we would be staying in. I was hoping we would get different rooms just by luck, but since we were mates, there was no chance. He opened the door to reveal a big room with a huge white bed up on the wall. The rose petals on the bed made my face drop in annoyance and I thanked the boy and shut the door. I didn’t bother moving my eyes in Jaylon’s direction, I just reached in my bag for some pajamas and got into the shower. The water had just gotten hot when I was slammed into one of the marble walls. I met eyes with my very annoyed attacker. He was fuming. “Seriously? You're going to ignore me the whole trip? That’s your plan!?” he questioned as I looked at him confused. “What do you mean? You told me to leave you alone and not to bother you, I have only been responding to you?” I blurted out, very confused at what I did wrong. “ Are you mad your precious little boyfriend had to look down at my mark all night long?” he accused. “You-you were the one that bit me?” I breathed out, confused and relieved. “What do you mean all night long?” “Don’t play dumb with me!” “I’m not!” “You seriously don’t remember?” “I have no idea what happened. I woke up at the pack house. . . I don’t even know how I got there. The last thing I remember was watching the sunset with Bridget and Dalton,” I replied, embarrassed. “You don’t remember the party? So you drank as I told you not to?” “There was a party? I was drunk?” “Are you feeling alright?” “I’m fine. I’ve never gotten drunk before so I guess that’s why. It’s so weird, why would I do that?” I asked myself, confused, before a more pressing question came to me. “Why the hell would you bite me? Go bite on your girlfriend!” His face was pure shock. “I don’t want to bite her. You're the one that walks around surrounded by boys that compliment you and bend over backward for you,” he replied, and I caught a tiny glint of jealousy. “Well, you aren’t in a position to worry about me, Jaylon. If anyone needs protecting, it's her, because I can protect myself just fine!” “Ah, so they wouldn’t do anything to you?” he asked and I shook my head immediately. “Then tell me sweetheart, who did you think bit you?” My eyes went wide at the question. “Exactly. That will be dealt with when we get home, but for now, you need to be mated,” he replied, before slowly moving his K-9’s down my neck. “No Jaylon, we aren’t together. We are not mating!” I argued. “We’ll see about that. . .” he whispered in my ear, before gently sucking on my neck where the bite was. I let out a moan as he grabbed my legs and wrapped them around his hips. I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed his face with my nails digging in and brought his lips to mine. He kissed me passionately as he stabbed the inside of my leg. Jaylon carried me into the bedroom and laid me on the bed gently. I tried to keep him on my lips but he pulled away from me and started kissing down my neck and trailing off down my body. “Your hips are bigger,” he commented, rubbing his hands up and down them. “I love it.” With that, I stiffened and gasped as he bit down on my right hip, causing blood to run down onto the white sheets. When his head made it in between my legs, the air left my body. “Jaylon!”
