The hours dragged on, one after the other with no new developments. Dr. Waters made it a point to give them regular updates so as to put Emily at ease but the lack of any improvements was hard to ignore.
Paul had left, it was the end of the day and he had a family to get back to. Emily didn’t hold it against the man. After all he hadn’t even had a real reason to come to the hospital in the first place, much less, to help them locate a doctor who could answer their questions. She was grateful though and she told him as much when he left.
Emily feared that Ryan would also leave but he reassured her that he would not go anywhere. Even when she was allowed to go into the ICU and see her father, Ryan remained in the waiting room and waited for her without complaint.
