Ase
I was right. Blood Moon Pack won against William’s warriors. They were too cocky and believed they were better.
William did not look happy. He had not changed at all, the same as his dad. They always believed they were the best, always too cocky for their own good.
The warriors looked defeated. I couldn't blame them for having the Alphas they have had. Now, today, their egos have been deflated.
It was our pack's turn to go. We went against each other as it would be unfair to other packs as we had the advantage of knowing the obstacle course. Gunnar and I are the first ones up, being Alpha’s children.
I was so looking forward to this. Gunnar is at the same level as me in fighting. I get an advantage in being short at only just reaching 5'2. Being starved and locked in small spaces stunted my growth. A memory of the cage I was locked in started to surface, but I quickly shoved them down.
Gunnar is the same size as father, at 6'6 pure muscle, like Angus he looks to be a gym rat. He braided his hair into three braids, beads going down, a short beard well-trimmed. He really looked like a double of father, but has mother's eyes, a beautiful blue like the sky.
Flashing each other with a smile, we got into position.
Let the games begin.
With the agility course, I have the advantage of being short and light. It gives me a few more seconds as Gunnar has all the weight behind him.
I nearly slipped up a few times, feeling I was being watched, not the normal watch with the audience, but being stared down, someone burning holes through my head on one side and watching intently the other side. I knew that was my mystery man on the second side.
I couldn't look to see where the first stare was coming from. I gave me chills. I could feel the memories trying to surface. The stare felt familiar. I felt as if my uncle was there.
We made it to the ring. I was caught off guard a few times, and Gunnar saw this. He let up and let me get my bearings without giving away what he was doing.
I took a deep breath and focused, shut the world out.
The match went on for a while. We both just cannot beat each other. Angus, who was our referee, stopped the fight.
I couldn't stop smiling and gave Gunnar the biggest hug I could give him. He picked me up and spun me around.
Suddenly, a loud growl went through the arena. A loud thump, I looked around and saw the guest had jumped from the tower seating he was in. He looked mad, it looks as if he was going to kill us. I wasn't scared, though. I felt excited. With his long legs he made it over to us very quickly.
Gunnar put me down with a smile on his face. He extended his hand to the guest and greeted him as old friends.
''How are you, Dimitri?'' Gunnar asked the guest, shaking his hand.
Dimitri is his name. It suits him so much. He is a lot taller than I thought. He must be around 6'8 6'9.
''Hello again, Gunnar. I see you had a safe trip back, sorry I couldn't join you straight away.'' Dimitri said, but staring at me. His voice was so deep and gravely. My mouth went dry, and a small gasp left me. That voice, you could get lost in it but also think of naughty things. I wouldn't say no to him reading me a bedtime story.
''Yes, thank you, Dimitri. I would love to introduce you to my baby sister. I told you about, Ase. Ase this is King Demitri of the dragon tribe.'' Gunnar says, keeping his voice low so he cannot be overheard heard. The dragon king was never seen and very private!
King! King! s**t, I quickly bowed down.
''It is lovely to meet you, King Demitri.'' I stayed bowing down, whispering so no one heard me calling him king. I can't believe the king of dragons is here!
Our special guest is the king of dragons! I could feel the butterflies in my stomach, and my heart was pounding fast.
I felt a finger under my chin, lifting my head. I looked up into his eyes. I couldn't look away.
''Don't look down, little one, your brother is a good friend of mine, also my mate is my equal.'' Mate?
''Dimitri, what are you saying?'' Gunnar questioned. ''Are you saying my sister is your mate?''
''Yes,'' Holy smokes, the dragon king said I am his mate, me? This feeling is because he is my mate?
I couldn't speak, I didn't know what to do or say. I never bothered to ask about mates as I was always told I would never get one, I should have asked.
In my old pack I was the wolf less girl to never find a mate, to never even leave that pack, I was told I would be lucky to be breeding machine.
Anyone born with no wolf was a curse, they was cursed by the Goddess to be damned for their whole life and should just live among humans or be an omega to the pack serving them as they are superior to you.
Gunner must have seen my panic as he quickly spoke up.
''Damn it Dimitri how am I supposed to do the brotherly talk and threaten you as you have heard my speech!?'' Gunner said breaking the ice. A smirk went across Dimitri's face and I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped me. Trust Gunner to come out with something like that!
Katy who was sat chatting with everyone see me and came walking over. Looping her arm through me she asked me in the mind link if I was ok?
I let her know he was my mate, this hunk of a man in front of us was my mate.
Katy whipped her head round so fast in surprised it didn't keep spinning from being broken. Surprise and happiness flashed across her face and then the biggest smile came across her. Hugging me telling me in the mind link how happy she is for me, the best news she has heard all day and how she told me so that I would have a mate. One thing with Katy when she was right you didn't live it down for a while, not in a horrible way more listen to me I am always right joking way.
After our hug I felt a large hand take mine and link our fingers together. My hand has to accommodate to the size of Dimitri's hand as they was huge! My fingers felt they was being stretched but in a comfortable way.
''I'm sorry king Dimitri I don't know what to say as I was always told I would never have a mate, I am wolf less.''
''It's just Dimitri for you mate, and I could tell you didn't have a wolf, it doesn't change anything.'' Dimitri said with a straight face, looking like he will not accept no for an answer.
I did feel hope at that point, but I wouldn't let myself get worked up as I may have my heart broken later on. He needs to hear my story before accepting me, I am a nobody and an orphan from a terrible background, he is a king and high status.
I introduced Katy to him and they hit it off straight away, Katy mind linking me that he is a good one. Lets hope she is right and he will be a good one.
Katy went and took a seat again as Gunner said about getting our parents and to share the good news in private as Dimitri can't have anyone know who he is. All the royalty of different species no one knows who they are, unless you are lucky to meet them, it is for protection.
Gunner got our parents attention, they called for a break.
I guess this is it, I will tell him my story and see if he wants to stay with me or not.
I hardened my heart for the talk that needs to be had, memories trying to push at me, temptation to look in hi mind that I refuse to do, I always said I would never do it unless I was in danger or father asked me for the prisoners on what their intentions are.
My heart started to beat faster but I kept a smile on my face not showing my emotions, when I felt a squeeze on my hand, looking up to Dimitri he softened his face looking down at me and smiled a soft smile, as if to tell me everything is ok.
Please Goddess do let everything be ok and stay by myside.
