Chapter 18

Dimitri/Sverre

Sverre called Ase his little angel back at the meadow, I didn't think anything of it at first as I thought it was just a nickname he gave her, but when he leaned down, he caught a smell I couldn't smell in my human form, it was sweet, a mixture of candy floss and a sunshine smell. Ase smelled like to me flowers in the meadow, a floral smell. I know I have smelled this smell before, but trying to place it, I couldn't.

Giving our mate a ride on our back was an honor for us both as mates only ride on the back of your dragon, in our tribe it shows how much your mates trusts you, especially as our mates have always been dragons and can fly themselves, so if your mate accepts it shows trust and will trust when you have hatchlings. When she accepted, I was over the moon. Ase is learning about us as dragons as we are very secretive and this I will need to tell her about before one of the tribe slips up. During the ride I had a chat with Sverre about the nickname he gave our sweet Ase as she was distracted looking at everything taking it all in.

He said I need to look it in our research diaries. He feels it is the right name for her, and there is more to her than believing she is just a witch.

''Our mate is more and she is strong I can feel it, she is special and will need to be looked after, I know she is a warrior but we need to keep her safe, I don’t think her old pack the Valhalla pack kept her secret about being there just because of Pinewoods, I feel it is more to it and they just didn't know why.''

''I'm going to trust you in your judgement Sverre, we need to put a plan in place and do some digging with who her parents are, something is not right, that William and his father John are putting me on edge with why they want her, why they done what they did to her. I want to find the answers out for her, so she doesn't have to worry.''

''We are in agreement human, now let’s enjoy our mate who is enjoying the ride.''

We flew around the tribe and just outside overlooking the forest with our mate on our back.

Sverre chatted with our mate, and chuckled every time her eyes light up in amazement of us being able to talk to her in dragon form. No other species is able to do this, they all need to have a mind link to communicate when they go in to their other forms.

As Ase, has grown up with wolves I am sure a lot of thing are new to her.

Ase was very interested in our scales she liked to stroke them and comment on with how dark they was and how no light could bounce off them. She asked as well if it was my fire underneath that warmed them. If I had feathers they would be puffed up in pride.

For the warm scales they wasn't always like that, dragon scales are cold, but we can use our fire inside to warm our scales to keep our mates warm.

Back at the meadow Sverre helped Ase down and when she hugged our chest I felt the pride swell again, making our mate happy with something this all of us take for granted. We enjoyed our picnic that Shannon had done for us. At breakfast she mind linked me asking about our plans for today, and I told her I was bringing Ase to the meadow, she offered to make us a picnic and put her foot down when I told her to not worry. One thing you do not do is argue with a female dragon, especially first thing in the morning. On the way back home Katy and Conner waved us over to the gazebo they was sat under and we had time with them.

I am glad I brought Katy and Conner with us, not only for Ase, but it gave these two a chance to bond. When I first thought on offering them a few days after they found out they was mates I wanted to offer them for my sake to keep an eye on Conner as what he said put me on edge all week. I kept a close eye on that William and Ashley, something is going on with both of them. I want to know why her uncle and cousin are so focused on her, especially being gone for 10 years, and they are still looking for her.

After dinner, she came with me to my office, I turned on the computer to go through my files of my journeys. I document each visit of all the places I go to and the people I meet, it is great for our history and protection for me and the tribe. If anything happens to me when I am visiting somewhere, the members with me would know where to look for my diary to find out where I am and what had happened.

I didn't find what I was looking for frustrated me as I really want answers and be able to give Ase answers, her whole life she has been in the dark on who she is. When I noticed the time, I looked over at Ase I see her asleep on the sofa with the book open on her lap. Picking up the book and putting it back on the shelf I picked her up to carry her to bed.

I didn’t mean to wake her up, but it was good as she could change into her pjs and be more comfortable. I would have changed her but without her telling me it was ok I didn’t want to oversteps, incase she was uncomfortable for me to do it.

I will have to keep looking each day for the answers, we can then give Ase the answers she seeks. This time I will make sure I do not get sucked in for hours on end as I do not want to neglect my mate. Tomorrow, I will keep searching and I will have a chat with Ase about it as well, I will not leave her in the dark.

I put Ase on the bed and passed her pjs and went to the bathroom to get changed, slipping in behind her she turned and fell asleep straight away.

I stayed awake for a little while longer to talk with Sverre, he was frustrated as well as me.

We stayed awake for a little while longer making a list of places I have visited that I have not looked up yet.

When it got to three in the morning I decided to give up and go to sleep. I switched off the alarm for 2 hours time. Cuddling up with my mate I got to sleep quickly.
