Chapter 1

Ase *Slam* I threw my opponent Angus on to the training mat. Angus has been my training partner and coach since he found me, and I entered the pack 10 years ago. He is the head warrior. I was only 14 at the time when he found me. I had run from my previous pack. I could not stand the abuse anymore, I had to run, or I would be dead by now. For the past 10 years, I have lived in the Valhalla pack. They found me hidden in a tree; it had a hole in the side just enough to fit my body in to hide from the storm that was going to blow through. In the mountains you need to find shelter quickly. ''You are still doing well, kid. I think we need to up the training, but it’s going to take me a few days to try and get a good plan in place for you,'’ Angus said, grinning, lying on the mat still. His light brown hair is coming out of his ponytail. Angus shaved the sides of his head and kept a mohawk look. It suits him going along with his build. He looks like a gym rat, just muscle on muscle. At 6'5, he looks intimidating. I know when I first met him, I honestly felt my soul leave my body. He has a long beard with 3 braids. The kindest whiskey-colored eyes, of course, if you were his friend. ‘'Anything you say, boss man.'’ I shot back as I knew he hated the boss man name, as on que the daggers he shot me just made me laugh. He knows I hate the name, kid. He has been calling me since I was found that night. '‘Go shower kid and get some lunch. You earned it.'' I did just that, taking an opportunity to leave training early, beat the warriors to lunch, and the best bargain a girl could ask for. These men ate like they had hollow stomachs. Walking through pack lands was so calming. We lived in the most beautiful area, all nature, nothing to disturb it. We had a forest that wrapped around our land, lots of grass with walking trails through different parts. We had a few little playgrounds for the children. All the homes were made from wood, all natural. The homes looked like beautiful log cabins. They were a lot bigger on the inside than what they looked like on the outside. The mountains in the distance are the best view, as well as seeing the tip of our mountain. Anything we build or use, we make sure everything is used and given back to nature for what we can not use. I made it to my room, stripping out of my gym clothes. *Ase, can I see you before you go for lunch, please?* My father, alpha Aric, mind linked me, just as I was about to shower. *Of course, father, I am about to go into the shower. Is it ok to shower first? * *That’s fine. After your shower please come to my office. * *Of course, father. * I had the quickest shower as you do not keep the alpha waiting even if he gave permission. It was disrespectful. I headed to my father's office. Knocked on the door, he told me to come in. My father, his beta Odin, and their gamma Loki were all there looking through paperwork for the event we were to hold for the new warrior training. It is a new event we have created as other packs had heard of our training. A pack member from one of the packs at the bottom of the mountain forest pack came across us by accident. I am not going to lie. It is brutal training we go through. But this is what makes us the best at training and never to be invaded. I was very surprised father had agreed. We are a very isolated pack, but I know he would help all packs, as that is what we used to do. ''You called me, alpha, hello beta and gamma.'' ''Yes, please grab a seat, Ase. we just wanted to update you on the plans for the upcoming event. Also, Angus said,' You need a new training program.'' My father and uncles gave up a long time ago trying to get me to use their names and no title, but I just couldn't do it. It felt wrong and disrespectful. Years in my old pack would never allow me to think like that. One slip, and I would have been beaten to a pulp. I was never to call my uncle, uncle. ''Yes alpha'' ''As you know, we have had quite a few packs apply for the tournament, but the reason for this chat is just to give you a heads-up and see what you think. You can refuse, of course, we will go by what you say, but your old pack, Pinewoods, have applied. The new alpha William has taken over, and they would like to enter. We have put off giving them an answer as we wanted to speak to you first.'' Wow, my old pack is applying! Yet they claimed to be the best pack, the best warriors ect ect. I wonder why they are applying for this. Never before have they even looked this way. It is too beneath them. They would win the number one spot for the most modern pack, all the latest gadgets, designer clothes and newest phones, they lived in luxury, nothing less. They searched for me when I left, couldn't let their slave/ punching bag leave, and tell the tale of the abuse, but after a month, they went silent, too silent. I wonder why they have suddenly decided to do this? Did they suddenly know I was here? I have a bad feeling in my gut if I say yes, but also, I really want to prove, not to them, but myself I am stronger than I was before. If I say no, would I miss out on the chance to get the closure I wanted for so long? As I sat thinking this through, everyone remained silent, respecting my thinking time and knowing I needed to think. I do not have a wolf to help me through this, so I just need to think and go by my emotions. I am probably going to regret this. ''Invite them alpha, I think it’s about time I stop hiding and get this over with. Maybe this will give me the closure I need.'' ''Are you sure sweet, we do not want to push you or make you uncomfortable?’'' Gamma Loki asked me. He has called me sweet since I entered the pack. Father took me in with his mate, Lori, who sort of adopted me, I was close to the beta and gamma. They were like my family, all of them. I have always called them by their titles, though this pack does not go by titles. It is just en-grained into me and a hard habit to kick. When it is just us, on our floor, I call them my mother, father and uncle's as it is in private, if we are in the office and anyone goes passed the office they would not hear me calling them father and uncle just a respect thing and shows the pack no favourites. The first time I said it, I froze, terrified I was going to be beaten for it. In my old pack, I would have been beaten in the front garden and the pack to witness. They could all take turns if they wanted to get a hit in. My mother, father, and uncle's were so happy for me to call them that. Slowly, they are cracking me to call them that and not their as they call 'fake titles'. My alpha, he is like a father to me. He took me under his wing and helped me through life the past 10 years. His mate Lori, who is like a mother to me, has been my rock. She is such a sweet, kind woman. ''Yes, let’s do this. I want to show them I’m not the same girl I once was.'' I was determined to face my demons. It is long overdue. I am not the scared little girl anymore! ''Ok, sweetheart, we will send the invites out today.'' My father, Aric, said, his eyes showing worry when he looked to me. He stared into my eyes. I am sure he could see my soul some days. I kept my determination and let it shine through me. He nodded in agreement. Let’s hope I’ve not made a mistake.
