There was a long, daunting silence between Natalie and Damian, and as it stretched, the former’s heartbeat was erratic like a wild beast that wanted to get loose from a cage.
Natalie held her breath in anticipation of what would be the next words to come out of her father’s mouth because not only his face but also his eyes were in deep sadness. His eyes displayed sorrow she couldn’t fathom, and she didn’t know where that emotion was coming from. She almost even saw tears trying to escape from his eyes, but Damian was very good at shedding them back. Then he looked away and stared at the emptiness of nature.
“You’re not my biological daughter,” Damian tore the wall of silence with heartbreaking news. “Do you not remember a fragment of your past?”
