Chapter 3: His Apartment

1097 Words
Eline’s POV He lived on the top floor with an elevator opening up right in his living room. It was beautifully decorated with white marble floors and a big cream white couch, big enough for at least 12 people. A big flatscreen TV, and a lot of art displayed all around the room. Everything from vases to sculptures to big abstract paintings and even some portraits, but she had no idea of whom. Behind the couch just in the next room was the dining area, it was connected to the living room by two large french doors. It was also displayed with beautiful paintings and art. He always said it was a good investment and one could never have too much art. The light was dimmed but the sunset was still lighting up the room from the big floor to ceiling windows that filled the entire back wall. The view was amazing, no tall buildings were in the way of the sunset over the nearby forest and the mountains in the far background. She walked over to the windows to suck up some of the last summer light before the cold autumn would swipe away the long light nights and replace them with rain and wind. Of course autumn was her favorite time of the year, she loved the colors and the smell of rain. She loved everything about autumn, the cosyness with the blankets and hot chocolate, or pumpkin spice everything! She knows! f*****g mainstream. But she loved it nonetheless, the fluffy socks, and pajamas’!! She always thought of autumn as the colorful season, before winter. Winter was always so depressing and cold, with no color other than white. White everything and white everywhere. Of course there was Christmas, but that was only one out of three winter months. The thought of winter and the icing cold winds sent chills down her spine. She shook it off. Past: When she got over her almost shocked like state, he was actually really easy to talk to. She could still be completely mesmerized by him and sometimes she got slightly scared when he talked, because of how dominant his voice was, it craved an audience. He was so charming and seductive. And his eyes. Oh his eyes. She could have dreamed herself away in those eyes. The dark brown eyes, almost black like the sky. They talked for hours about everything and nothing. Then her two male coworkers came and said it was time for them to go home. She didn’t want to go with them but they were her ride to the conference. It would have taken her hours to get here from the town where she lived and worked with public transportation, but only 45 minutes in a car. She sighed and reluctantly got down from the high barstool. When she looked up, he was standing up too, with his back to her, facing her coworkers. “She won’t be leaving with the two of you” he said in a mean tone she hadn’t heard yet. She was shocked, she was looking at him, with big eyes and her mouth gapped. She quickly shut her mouth when she realized how ridiculous she must have looked. She was going to protest but she wasn’t fast enough. “I’ll drive her home”, he said. The two coworkers looked shocked, one piped around him to look at her “do you know this man? Are you in trouble? Come on, let’s just go home!” The one coworker said. “NO! I said I would drive her home” he boomed over the crowd. The two coworkers looked scared now, “are you okay? Do you need help” the other coworker asked her. She couldn’t answer, she was completely frozen. “Don’t talk to her! You talk to me! Now go! Or else we are gonna have a problem!” She would hear the anger in his voice, but to her surprise she wasn’t scared of him, she respected him. She wanted to do everything with him, for him, absolutely everything. The two coworkers looked a last time at her, then at him, then turned around in their heels and walked away. He turned around and looked at her, she was still frozen. He was perfect! she thought. Present: The sun was going down faster each day, making the days shorter. She loved autumn. And she loved him. She looked around the apartment, her favorite painting was hanging on the wall with the french doors leading to the dining area. She walked closer, it was a painting of a forest, in autumn. There were trees with all different colors of the leaves. The sky in the far background was midnight black. The ground was covered in leaves. Nothing else was on the painting. Just trees and leaves. It was absolutely beautiful. She didn’t remember that specific painting the first few times. However, after she talked about how much she loved autumn, that painting suddenly appeared. The thought of him buying that painting because she loves autumn, made her smile, and now it was her favorite painting out of all of them. She turned around on the heel of her snickers, and walked towards The Room. It was the only room she was allowed in, besides the conjoined bathroom, the living room, kitchen and dining area. She has never been in his master bedroom, guest bedroom or the home office. She walked down a long hallway with a lot of doors on both sides, she had no idea what was behind the other doors. She often wondered if he was hiding something or perhaps someone? She wondered a lot, but it didn’t matter to her, she was happy to be with him. Well she didn’t actually know if they were together, they had never been on a date or seen together out in public besides that first night when they met. They only met in his apartment and in this room, she was only allowed in the living room because that was the only way in from the lobby. And the kitchen because that is where the doorman left their food. They never made food for themselves, they always ordered out. And she often got leftovers from the doorman and his wife, the doorman’s wife made the most delicious casseroles and pies. When she reached the door to The Room, she could hear her heartbeat in her ears again, she grabbed the doorknob with a sweaty hand and turned it.
