Aurora’s POV
Everything happened too fast. One second I was standing between Kael and Liam and the next a massive rogue wolf burst from the shadows straight toward me. Its glowing red eyes locked onto mine with terrifying hunger. I screamed. “Kael!” The rogue leapt through the air viciously, claws extended toward my throat.
But before it could reach me, a deafening roar shook the street. Kael shifted instantly. Dark smoke exploded around him as the enormous black wolf slammed into the rogue midair with brutal force. The impact cracked against the stone road. The rogue howled painfully. Kael’s wolf snarled with terrifying rage, pinning the rogue beneath him while snow scattered violently around them. I stumbled backward in shock. Moon Goddess I had never seen a wolf move that fast before. Liam grabbed my arm quickly, pulling me farther away from the fight.
“Stay behind me,” he ordered sharply. My heart pounded violently. The rogue tried clawing at Kael, but Kael’s wolf tore into him mercilessly. There was no hesitation, no mercy only fury.
Pure Alpha dominance radiated from him so powerfully that even I could feel it. The rogue whimpered beneath him then suddenly another growl echoed behind us. Liam’s head snapped toward the alley. “Damn it,” he cursed. More glowing eyes appeared within the darkness. My blood ran cold. There were so many. The rogues slowly emerged from the shadows surrounding the street, their mangy fur covered in snow while dangerous snarls echoed around us. We were surrounded. Fear gripped my chest instantly. Kael noticed too. The black wolf lifted his head sharply, blue eyes narrowing dangerously at the approaching rogues. Then he stepped protectively in front of me and my breath caught. Even after rejecting me, his first instinct was still to protect me. The realization hurt almost as much as the rejection itself. Liam moved beside us, his body tense. “This isn’t normal,” he muttered darkly. He was right.
Rogues rarely traveled in large groups unless someone controlled them. And rogues hated organized attacks. Which meant
“This was planned,” Kael growled after shifting back into human form. Snow clung to his dark hair while blood stained his knuckles from the fight. He looked terrifying no deadly beautiful.
One rogue stepped forward slowly, grinning cruelly. “You should’ve stayed inside your palace tonight, Alpha King.” My stomach tightened. The rogue spoke too clearly, too intelligently not like a normal rogue at all. Kael’s expression darkened dangerously. “Who sent you?” he asked but the rogue only laughed.
Then his eyes suddenly shifted toward me. And the smile on his scarred face widened. “There she is,” he murmured. Cold fear slid down my spine. Kael noticed instantly his entire body stiffened. “What do you want with her?” he asked dangerously. The rogue ignored him completely. Instead, he looked directly at me.
“The girl with silver eyes.” My breathing stopped. How did they know about my eyes?
Before I could think further, the rogue suddenly snarled: “Take her.”
Everything exploded into chaos. The rogues charged at once. Liam shifted instantly beside me, his large gray wolf lunging toward the nearest attacker. Kael grabbed me roughly around the waist before I could even react. “Run,” he ordered. “But…”
“NOW, AURORA!” Another rogue lunged toward us. Kael snapped the attacker’s neck brutally before shoving me behind him again.
The street became a blur of snarls, claws, and blood. I could barely even breathe. This couldn’t be happening. One rogue broke past Liam suddenly and rushed straight toward me.
I froze, too terrified to move the wolf leapt then suddenly a blast of silver light exploded from my body. The entire street went silent. The rogue was thrown violently across the snow like an invisible force had struck him. Everyone froze even Kael. My heartbeat thundered painfully in my ears. Silver energy flickered briefly around my trembling hands before disappearing completely and for what seemed like hours no one moved, no one spoke. Then slowly Kael turned toward me. Shock filled his icy blue eyes like he had just realize something terrifying. “Aurora…” he whispered.
But before I could ask what was wrong the lead rogue suddenly smiled. A horrifying smile.
“There it is,” he said softly. Then his red eyes locked onto me again.
“The Moon Heir.”
