“Good evening Mrs. Rivera.”
Great this is all I f*****g needed right now. Someone prying into my business wanting to know why I’m alone on my wedding day. “May I?′
“I don’t mean to seem rude or anything, but I’d rather be left the hell alone.”
“I thought you might Alaina.”
I looked up, god if he wasn’t gay I’d jump him. He’d been with me through all of this ordeal, my tantrums and my immature outbursts he’d been there. “Jasper. I had no idea you’d be here.”
“Mr. Rivera invited me, but I see him nowhere.”
Of course he did. “You’re guess is as good as mine.”
“He’s a fool for leaving you like this, especially on your wedding day.”
“Well he’s a prick.”
“Come what me please.” He said, holding his hand out.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll see.” He nodded.
I smiled taking his hand and he wrapped his hand tightly around mine talking me out of the reception area outside, we continued walking. “You know if you were mine I wouldn’t treat you like this.”
“But I’m not. And beside you’re gay.”
“What has that to do with anything Alaina?”
“A lot.”
“Look Alaina. I’ve come to really know you over this past month and you are a very pretty, intelligent and sassy young lady. What I don’t understand is why you are with a guy like Elijah Rivera.′ He looked at me. ’You deserve so much better than to be treated like s**t on the bottom of a shoe. You are very talented and headstrong, you have ambition, something he clearly is trying to take from you. He is someone that not only can never be loved, but he will never love. He will just torture you if you stay around, he’s a player and him being married to you will not stop that.”
Tears fell off my face I knew what he was saying was true, but I’d signed that stupid f*****g contract to agree to his stupid rules. He abruptly stopped pulling me down onto the bench. “Tell me everything Alaina, and I mean everything I’m your friend and you can trust me.”
“I don’t know, Jasper.”
“Trust me Alaina. I know you’ve never been too happy about this situation he put you in, and i think my assumptions are correct by looking at your tears eyes right now.”
“I don’t know.”
“Trust me Alaina, that’s all I ask. I will be by your side through this, we are friends and friends stick together.”
“Okay if you insist.” I exhaled telling Jasper everything from when I began working as an intern at his company and how he wouldn’t let me split my intern up so I could do my fashion degree. My parents dying in a crash and leaving me with a substantial amount of debt. And last of all how he devised this ridiculous contract into me marrying him. So he would take care of my debt. And how much I hated this guy for taking my life away from me.
He placed his arm around me hugging me. “I’m so sorry Alaina, he’s sly and manipulating. He always gets what he wants at any costs. I’ll help you get out of this I promise. I know people who would willingly help you just in order to destroy him if you let me.”
“I don’t know Jasper, if I break the contract I will have to pay back all I owe him, plus interest and he’ll make sure no one will ever hire me.”
“We’ll sort this I promise.” He kissed my forehead. I’d never felt so closer to someone as I do right now. “Just lay low don’t let him get suspicious, it will all end good trust me.”
I wished I could. I rarely trusted anyone and he was expecting me to trust him. Could I trust him not to turn it all around on me and tell Elijah what we’d discussed?
He took his arms from around me, wiping my tears away. “Come on let’s go inside.”
I nodded.
“Let’s show him that you don’t care.”
I nodded and smiled he slipped his fingers in between mine and led me back to the reception. “Let’s dance Alaina.”
I nodded.
He smiled pulling me close dancing with me. I felt so free in this moment until it was sadly disturbed by the one and only Elijah f*****g Rivera.
