CHAPTER 28

(Lucian's POV) "Alpha." A knock on the door and a voice broke the silence. Harper’s voice. Selene was still asleep—her breathing steady, lips slightly parted, and her hair spilling over the pillow. Two days and two nights… we had barely left the bed. Our bodies remained entwined, as if trying to satisfy a desire that had been held back for too long. As if we were attempting to mend every wound with intimacy. I slowly rose from the bed, making sure she remained undisturbed in her slumber. I pulled the blanket up to cover her bare body, then leaned down to press a kiss against her temple. "Sleep, my love," I whispered. "I won’t be long." Moving swiftly to the living room, I gently closed the bedroom door behind me to avoid waking her. Harper was already standing there with a serious expression, arms crossed over his chest. "What did you find?" I asked without preamble. "I’ve investigated, Alpha," Harper replied, his voice low but clear. "And it appears to be true—the attack on Selene… was orchestrated by the Council." My chest tightened. My eyes narrowed, my jaw clenched. "They… dared to send rogues to kill her? Before I marked her?" "Yes," Harper confirmed firmly. "They knew Selene wasn’t officially your mate yet. And they took advantage of that gap. Perhaps they thought that by eliminating her, your bond could be disregarded." "Insane," I growled quietly, my voice laced with barely contained rage. "They are nothing but beasts. But this time… they have forgotten who they are challenging." I stepped toward the window, gazing outside for a moment before turning back. "Selene is mine now. Our bond is sealed. I have marked her. No one will touch her without losing their head." Harper nodded but remained cautious. "Do you want me to inform the Council? Or do you have another plan?" "Say nothing," I answered coldly. "Let them believe they’re safe. When the time is right… I will make them pay in full myself. Not a single one of them will escape." I could feel my gaze darkening. The moment I touched Selene—not just physically, but spiritually—something within me changed. I wasn’t just protecting her as a leader but as a soul-bound mate. And no being in this world would lay a hand on my mate. Suddenly, the bedroom door creaked open. I turned my head. Selene stepped out… wearing my black shirt, which draped over her petite frame. Her hair was a mess, her eyes still drowsy, and her skin bore a faint flush—a reminder of our passionate nights. "Lucian?" Her voice was hoarse and weak. She wasn’t aware we had company. Harper immediately turned his back, averting his gaze. "My apologies, Selene, I didn’t know—" Selene gasped, her face turning red as she realized Harper’s presence. She quickly hid part of her body behind the wall. I moved toward her, placing my hands on her shoulders and gazing at her with concern. "My queen, you should’ve stayed inside. Or at the very least… worn something more… appropriate before coming out," I murmured gently but firmly, a small smile tugging at my lips. She pouted, clearly embarrassed. "I didn’t know Harper was here. I thought it was just us." "You’re too tempting, even without trying, Selene," I whispered in her ear, making her blush deepen. "Wait for me in the room, or take a bath first. I’ll join you soon." Harper bowed deeply, maintaining his respectful demeanor despite the awkward situation. "Alpha, I’ll take my leave. Thank you for your time." I simply nodded, watching as Harper exited. The moment the door shut, I turned back and re-entered the bedroom. Selene stood in front of the mirror, running her fingers through her tangled hair. My shirt hung loosely on her body, barely covering anything. The sight was too alluring. "I’m going to take a bath," she murmured without looking back, already aware of my presence behind her. I stepped closer, closing the distance between us. My hands found her waist, pulling her gently until her back pressed against my chest. "I want to join you," I whispered, lowering my lips to her smooth neck. "But we might not actually get much bathing done." Selene giggled softly, then squirmed as my lips began to explore her skin. "You just said I needed to rest." "And you just walked out of the room wearing nothing but my shirt," I murmured against her shoulder, my kisses trailing lower. "Do you think I can just ignore that?" My hands roamed down her body—slowly, deliberately. She tilted her head back against my shoulder, letting out a soft sigh as my fingers slipped beneath the fabric. "I never imagined I could feel this with you," I whispered into her ear. "Not just your body, Selene… but your soul. You are mine. And I am yours." She turned to face me, her eyes shining, a delicate smile on her lips. "I know. And I will never leave, Lucian." I lifted her into my arms, her weight barely registering. Her scent had become my home. Stepping into the bathroom, I kissed her all the way. She giggled, and I immediately turned on the shower before capturing her lips again, stripping away both her clothes and mine. The moment our bare skin touched, the spark of our bond flared. I could see my future with her—clear, undeniable—and it only fueled my desire further. Slowly, I trailed down, capturing her hardened peak in my mouth before stopping right in front of her core. I slid my fingers between her thighs, drawing a sharp moan from her lips. Then, I stood, kissing her deeply, again and again, until she gazed at me with hazy, longing eyes. "Please… Lucian. Please…" "Do you want another round, my queen?" I enjoyed hearing her beg. "Yes, I want it so badly." Gripping her hips, I lifted her effortlessly, then thrust into her—slow, deep, filled with both love and the burning desire I had for her.
