(Lucian’s POV)
“So, what are you going to do next, Alpha?”
Harper looked at me, demanding an answer regarding what had happened lately. He was in my office at my command to discuss this matter.
He expressed his concern about my situation with Selene, and I appreciated his worry.
“You heard it yourself—how the council has warned me not to marry a she-alpha who has already been rejected by her mate,” I said. “Of course, I won’t obey their wishes. This is my choice and the path I’ve decided to take.”
Especially since Dexton had already hurt her, nearly raping Selene, and knowing that she was meant to be my mate... Well, I certainly wouldn’t let him do it again.
“Yeah, I heard it loud and clear, Alpha.”
“I’m sure there are many who want to harm or even eliminate Selene so that I won’t take her as my mate. Even the council might step in if I continue to push forward,” I explained.
Then I looked at Harper seriously. “That’s why I want you to protect her when I’m not by her side. And if you’re busy, you can assign another warrior—someone strong and truly capable of keeping Selene safe.”
“I understand, Alpha. I know a few of our warriors who are about as strong as I am.”
I nodded. “Good. I’m giving you this order because I don’t want what happened before to happen again.”
“What about Dexton, Alpha? Should I do something about him as well?”
I shook my head. “I’ll handle him myself. He needs to be warned directly.”
I then left my house and made my way to Dexton’s home. It was nighttime, and his house looked dark and unoccupied.
I walked in and switched on the lights, confirming that neither Dexton nor his wretched omega was there.
So, I calmly sat on the sofa, waiting for him to return. I was certain that if he wasn’t home at this hour, it meant he was out drinking.
And I was right. A few minutes passed, and finally, Dexton came home—alone.
“Who the hell turned on the lights?” His voice was slurred, unusually so. I knew he was drunk.
The moment he opened the door, his eyes widened in shock when he saw me standing there, my expression filled with rage.
Without hesitation, I lunged at him, grabbing his throat and slamming him against the wall, pinning him there.
The wall behind him cracked from the force of my grip. His face turned red as he gasped for air, his expression filled with terror.
“D-Dad!”
“Do you even know why I’m doing this?!” I tightened my grip, but I made sure not to kill him—yet.
He couldn’t speak, and that was exactly what I intended. He needed to learn his lesson through fear, and I was the one person he feared the most.
“Listen to me carefully, you foolish boy,” I growled. “This is your first and final warning. Do not ever go near Selene again!”
“What… are you going to do, huh?” Even in his state, he still dared to challenge me.
“I will kill you without hesitation, even if you are my son! No one—absolutely no one—hurts my mate, not even my own blood!” I snarled, my eyes burning with fury.
I tightened my grip even more. This was a warning, but if he survived, it meant I still cared enough to let him live. If he ever defied me again, not even an apology would save him.
“So you would really kill your own son for the sake of your mate?”
“Bastard! I would kill you as her mate, not as your father! So don’t expect mercy from me!”
He laughed—mocking me—even as he coughed from my grip.
“You threw her away, Dexton! How could you go so far as to try to r**e her, leaving those disgusting hickey marks on her?!”
I finally let go of his throat, giving him a chance to speak.
This son of mine—he was truly ungrateful. He should have protected his bond with Selene, but he was the one who destroyed it. And now, he acted like a fool, furious that I had taken the mate he had discarded.
“I just don’t understand, Dad,” he rasped, hatred still evident in his eyes. “Why are you so obsessed with her? So in love, so protective?”
Then, his lips twisted into a sneer. “Or… could it be that you’ve been after her since she was still my mate? Is that it?”
This time, he accused me outright. But instead of reacting with anger, I smirked at him in mockery.
“Dexton… you’re truly pathetic. You’re the one who should be ashamed here, not Selene,” I chuckled. “You threw away Selene—a she-alpha—for a cursed omega. Let me repeat myself: Selene is a she-alpha, Dexton! A she-alpha!”
I laughed mockingly, knowing that his pride had taken a serious blow.
“Watch your words, Dad!”
“I don’t care! You abandoned her, and I claimed her. Imagine how powerful I am, a Lycan King, taking a she-alpha as my mate. That’s impressive, wouldn’t you agree?”
He fell silent, only growling in frustration. He knew I was right, but he refused to admit it, choosing instead to believe that I was degrading myself.
On top of that, he blamed Selene, as if she had seduced me as if she had crawled to me just to restore her reputation after he had rejected her.
But none of that was true. I was the one who had offered Selene a path to victory—a path that would benefit both of us. Besides, I truly loved her.
“You disgust me,” he spat.
I scoffed. “Yeah? Keep saying that, Dexton. Let me remind you again—do not ever touch her again. Do not even think of hurting her. I won’t hesitate to end your life as her mate, so keep your hands and your eyes in check if you still want to breathe!”
