Chapter3:The first consequence

636 Words
The next morning, Lina woke up with a mix of excitement and dread. She knew she should leave the app alone, but the temptation was too strong. The glow of the mysterious symbol on her phone seemed to call her. She touched it and typed a name she had been curious about all week: her classmate, Zoe. The words appeared instantly. Zoe had been spreading small lies about her friends to make herself look better. Lina’s stomach twisted. She had seen Zoe smile at her yesterday, pretending everything was fine. Now she knew the truth. At first, Lina thought she could ignore it, but she could not. During science class, she noticed Zoe acting strangely. Her friends looked confused when she spoke, and Zoe’s smile seemed tight and nervous. A spilled beaker knocked over a few papers on the lab table. Everyone looked around, surprised. Lina’s heart raced. She realized the app had caused this. What she saw was not just a secret; it was changing reality. Her hands shook as she tried to focus on her notes. During lunch, Maya noticed Lina sitting alone. “You have been quiet all day,” she said. “Are you okay?” Lina forced a smile. “I’m fine. Just tired.” Maya’s eyes narrowed slightly. “You don’t seem fine. You’ve been acting strange. And your phone keeps lighting up. What is going on?” Lina hesitated. Could she tell Maya the truth? She knew Maya might not believe her. But lying felt harder than usual. She shook her head. “It’s nothing,” she said. Maya frowned but let it go. Lina felt a pang of guilt. She wanted to tell her friend, but she knew the secrets she uncovered were dangerous. Later in the afternoon, Lina met Evan in the hallway. He leaned against the lockers, arms crossed, as if he had been waiting for her. “Have you used it again?” he asked, his voice low. “Yes,” Lina admitted, feeling nervous. “I saw Zoe’s secret.” Evan’s eyes darkened. “Do you see what happens when you do this? Even small secrets can change everything around you. You cannot control it.” “I know,” Lina whispered. She wanted to stop, but a part of her was curious. Could she really see all the secrets? Could she understand the people around her completely? Evan stepped closer. “Curiosity is dangerous here. You have to trust me. Some things are not meant to be uncovered.” Lina swallowed. She could feel her heart beat faster when he was near. “I… I think I can handle it,” she said, even though a small voice in her head warned her not to. Evan shook his head slowly. “You will learn soon enough that you cannot.” That night, Lina sat on her bed, thinking about the day. Zoe’s strange behavior, Maya’s questions, and Evan’s warning spun around in her mind. She knew she had crossed a line. The app was powerful, and she had already started to see the cost. She opened the app again. This time, she hesitated before typing a name. She thought of someone she trusted, someone she cared about. Could she uncover a secret about them without causing harm? Her fingers hovered over the screen. She knew the next choice could change everything. She pressed the letters slowly, holding her breath. The words appeared. Lina read them and gasped. She had never imagined a secret like this existed. It made her stomach churn, her hands shake, and her head spin. And when she looked out the window, at the quiet streets below, she realized that her life had changed forever. Some secrets were not meant to be known. And some changes could not be undone.
