JULIE RESTED HER FACE on her hands as she gazed out the bus window. As usual she was one of five students left on the Shepherd school district bus as it drifted towards the insignificant dot on a map called Rayburn. Just as usual, Julie refrained from talking to any of her fellow classmates, as she watched the wheat-gold grass bake in the afternoon sun. The tall grass kept her attention until the bus stopped at the first in a line of two-story houses at the edge of a town that spanned a mere four blocks.
The impatient girl descended the bus, walked across the only perfectly trimmed lawn in Rayburn and approached the door. As she did, she reached into her pocket for her key but found it wasn’t there. Julie panicked. She slung her bag from over her
