Adora
The moment my spit hit his face, hot fear rattled in my stomach and made me feverish. My fingers flexed, and the hairs on my neck stood up like tiny alarm bells when my mate's mate's body stiffened.
At first, I expected him to explode in a rage, yank me by my hair, and slap the s**t out of my face since rogues were known to be dangerous.
He took a step back and shut his eyes. But then, something I hadn’t expected happened.
When his eyes opened, he locked them on me. Then, a slow, dark chuckle escaped his lips. He wiped the spit off with his fingers and, with a smirk, spread it across his lips like lip gloss.
Holy freaking cow.
My mind went blank for a moment, and then it was immediately replaced with the raw power of my attraction to him. Every inch of my body lit up with the burning, urgent need for him to possess me. It made a delicious feeling shudder through me, and my thighs clenched.
What the f**k is wrong with you, Adora? Have you gone insane?
What kind of twisted madness was this? Was I seriously falling for a rogue's charm? Is the misery in my life not enough?
His lips curled into a devilish grin, and dimples cut deep into his cheeks as he winked at me.
"She can speak for herself, can’t she? Or is she mute?" His voice teased Morgana.
A frown forced itself onto my face even as my body betrayed me. Heat pulsed between my legs in a maddening throb that was hard to ignore.
My drama classes were now put to good use. I needed to show as much hatred for him as possible. I couldn't bear to lose my family and packmates over a rogue.
A black dog trotted up to the rogue, tail wagging like it had found its master. He scratched its ears casually. Soon, other rogues gathered around my mate, bowing low as they jumped off their bikes. That was when it hit me—he wasn’t just any rogue. He was their leader.
Morgana’s fingers gripped my hand tightly, almost crushing it in fear. It should have been the other way around—she was Alpha blood, the strong one. I was the Omega.
"That’s Thor, the Rogue Alpha," she said through the mind-link. "The bastard has been terrorizing us for years and claims my dad stole from him. He won’t stop until he’s killed my dad, and that's why he abducted me. We’re cooked."
My heart dropped. I'd heard about
Thor—the arch-nemesis of Alpha Carter, Morgana’s father. Of all the people in the world, the universe had decided to tie me to my pack's greatest threat. My understanding mother would disown and reject me altogether. There would be no forgiveness for this.
Morgana glanced around nervously, sending me another mind link. “We need to get out of here. We can't let him kill us."
But before we could plan anything, a tall, white-haired person appeared. It was hard to tell if they were male or female, but the tight button-down blouse, high-waisted jeans, and large hoop earrings didn’t help narrow it down.
“Get inside, bitches, or do I have to strip you naked and make you dance for the boys? I bet you’d enjoy that.”
Behind them, two more vans sat parked, filled with at least ten other crying girls from the mating ball. No men. Just women kidnapped like us. It made my skin crawl. They weren’t planning on killing us immediately; they wanted to play first.
We were dragged into a cabin that looked like an old hunting lodge but had new furniture. The moment they threw me inside, I collapsed onto the wooden floor. There was no escape. My father wouldn’t bother rescuing me. Morgana’s dad had to come before these maniacs decided to kill us.
The other girls huddled together, terrified and sobbing. Morgana tried to shift into her wolf, but a rogue slapped her hard, sending her crashing into the wall.
“Please, don’t fight back!” I cried, rushing to her and pulling her into my arms. “They’ll kill you. You can’t fight them.”
She shoved me off. “We’re going to die anyway! I’d rather fight than let them use me like a toy.”
The rogues were having their fun, taunting us, laughing, and throwing insults. Now and then, my eyes darted to the door, hoping my mate would come in. Would he let me die over some revenge against my pack? And how could Alpha Carter be so powerful yet let these rogues run rampant?
My body trembled. I could feel it shutting down. I imagined my brother, Nolan, finding out what happened. He’d go crazy trying to find me. My mother would cry herself hoarse, and Grandma would probably scream at my father for sending me away in the first place.
Hours passed, and the lights went out, plunging us into darkness. Even though we werewolves had sharp vision at night, something about the pitch black heightened my fear. Maybe it was because the worst things always happened at night.
None of us dared to sleep. We feared what they might do if we closed our eyes. I tried to convince myself Thor wouldn’t hurt me, but my heart raced so fast that it would explode.
Whispers floated through the room as the other girls cursed the rogues with the filthiest words in their vocabulary. They prayed for their deaths, wishing they’d never wake up. In my head, I cursed the Moon Goddess for binding me to someone like Thor. She was a cruel, evil b***h.
Then, when the silence started to settle, footsteps echoed outside, followed by hoots and hollers. One of the girls near the window screamed.
“They’re going to burn us alive!”
Her shriek pierced through me, sending dizzy spells over my body. My legs gave out, and I stumbled backward, hitting the floor hard. The world faded, slipping out of my control, and everything went black.
