Chapter 50: The Widow’s Walk Hurricane Bay Beach Bungalow 23 September 27, 20— 9:48 P.M. The new bungalow ended up to be legally in both our names. Our new home grew into everything we imagined it to be: bigger than the last one, equipped with its own dock, wraparound deck, theatre room, three bedrooms, and a widow’s walk on the roof that allowed enough room to fit two small patio chairs and a miniature table. We settled into the place quickly and efficiently. Boxes were unpacked from things we could salvage from the fire, new clothes were purchased, pots and pans, bedding, and few pieces of furniture. The place looked half-decorated by the third week of September, but neither of us really cared, knowing the job would eventually get done by Thanksgiving or Christmas. The widow’s walk
