Thalia’s POV
The remaining guards watched in horror as the massive wolf crushed the head of the guard who had just tried to slit my throat, leaving the headless body to collapse onto the grass.
I desperately tried to crawl backward, but my limbs refused to cooperate. My whole body was planted…it was like I was drawn to his wolf form. Everything else around me disappeared. It was as if my heart slowed.
Where could he have possibly come from? He was always right on time to save me.
My body moved on its own, my hand stretching toward him to touch his fur, but he swept out of my reach the exact moment the rest of the guards launched forward to attack.
Who in their right mind would still attack this terrifying-looking beast?
He targeted the closest guard first, and though the man tried to dodge the first attack, he tore into the guard's stomach, his razor-sharp claws piercing through flesh and bone as if the man were nothing more than a common piece of fabric.
His blood hit the ground while the rest splattered on my legs.
What the hell was wrong with me? I was supposed to be feeling scared, to be disgusted by such monstrosity, but I wasn't. Instead, my body was burning with an unquenchable desire I couldn’t quite explain.
Just like two years ago, I felt the pull, the same pull that had my heart racing and mind running around for years.
I watched as he tore every single one of the guards to shreds, his claws moving faster than his feet. The last body dropped on the floor, and the wolf turned to face me fully. His whole fur was coated in blood, and his claws had chunks of flesh attached to them.
Then he began to shift.
The massive wolf form rippled and fractured, bones snapping and molding back into place. The thick, blood-soaked fur receded into smooth, sun-kissed skin, stretching over a powerfully sculpted chest and broad shoulders. As he rose to his full, towering height, long strands of red hair fell forward, framing a face so sharply handsome it stole the remaining breath from my lungs.
My lips slowly parted as his intoxicating scent invaded my nose, and I stared at his flawless, naked body.
Before I could stop myself, the word left my mouth: “Mate…”
He stilled completely, taken aback by what I said.
But my mind went blank as the wound on the back of my head, where I had hit against a sharp rock only minutes ago, suddenly burst open and began to gush blood again.
I suddenly felt dizzy, and my eyes rolled back into my head, but as I fell, a single realization washed over me. Unlike the last time, my mystery wolf didn’t run away. In fact, he caught me in his arms before I could even hit the ground.

Caspian’s POV
The heavy prison gates slammed shut behind me.
I was beaten to the point that I couldn’t even heal myself. I lay flat on the floor waiting to fall into unconsciousness, but it never came.
My head kept spiraling and moving towards just one person: Thalia. Where could she be?
As the seconds turned to minutes and the minutes to hours and the hours to days, all I had ever done in this prison was to heal all of Adonis' guards and warriors.
No one had said a word or offered any form of assistance to me. I was seen as an outcast solely meant for the healing of the Alpha and his guards.
“On your feet, healer. If you have enough energy to fornicate with your Alpha’s property, then you’ll definitely have enough to heal a full army.” I’d get dragged across the palace floors and forced to heal men with broken bones, internal bleeding and all forms of internal and external injuries.
I had thought about conjuring some reverse healing technique on the guards so I could escape, but with how weak I was right now, it was almost impossible.
While trapped inside the cage, different rumors about Adonis losing control of himself began to spread like wildfire.
“Since that night Thalia ran off, Alpha Adonis has been acting weird.”
“No control over his emotions whatsoever…”
Words on Thalia’s whereabouts had also been lost in the winds. Even the guards who went after her never came back.
Knowing this entire realm from beginning to end, it was obvious where she might have run to.
The Borderlands, a no-man’s land.
And if those hefty, well-trained men couldn’t make it out, what were the possibilities of Thalia ever making it out?
The thoughts of her being devoured or taken prisoner by some sickos kept playing in my head. It was a terrible thing to imagine, but those thoughts were what kept me from giving up when it felt like I was abandoned in this cage.
Eventually, the guards hurled me out of the prison, pulling me without a single word of explanation.
The whole palace was in chaos.
Servants were running to and from Adonis' quarters with bowls of steaming water. Guards ran off, shouting commands at each other. The whole place was in shambles.
What was going on?
The moment I was pushed into Adonis' quarters, the stench of death immediately hit my nose. I stumbled back a bit, overwhelmed by the number of bloody napkins beside Adonis' body.
Eris sat beside him, the look of disgust planted on her face. “What took you so long?” she snapped.
I ignored her, moving straight to where Adonis was positioned. His fair and smooth skin now appeared dull under the moonlight.
I looked around, still very much shocked at the sight before me. He was literally training a few days ago, and at a speed I had never seen him run before.
Something was definitely wrong.
“He was fine and good after our mating ceremony; in fact, days after that, he was moving faster and stronger than he had ever done in his life.” Eris finally spoke up. “But after that sneaky b***h ran away, he started acting really weird.”
I stood beside him and examined his whole appearance. He looked like he was being drained of his life force from within. His veins popped out of his neck, legs, arms, abdomen, and even his chest, and they glowed dark green and black.
I did all I could to stabilize him. I first tried to stop the internal bleeding and then normalize his body temperature. When his breathing came back to normal, the whole room sighed.
“This is only temporary,” I informed them. “If we don’t find a permanent solution soon…he’ll die.”
“He looks exactly like he did two years ago.” Eris suddenly confessed.
“Two years ago, when?” I questioned her, completely confused.
“Two years ago, when our pack faced a brutal attack from a rogue pack.” She rose from where she sat and placed her hand on Adonis' now steady heart. “Two years ago, when Thalia gave up her wolf to him.”
