Chapter 20

Olivia Isla Blood gushed from my mouth nonstop as pain struck my stomach so intensely that I rolled on the cement floor. The witches kept chanting, and I felt like I was being burned in hell. I didn't understand what they were saying; all I knew was that it was killing me. I wanted it all to stop, but I didn't know how. "That's enough," Dion declared. I was panting for air, but even breathing felt difficult now. All I saw was the dim light of a candle, and slowly, even that color faded until all I saw was darkness. Suddenly, I felt weightless, as if I were being pulled through a void. When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a strange, ethereal landscape filled with shimmering lights and shifting colors. Before me stood a woman who seemed both unfamiliar and strangely familiar, as if I had known her in another life. She had dark features, red lips, and fierce eyes. She wore a white cloak, looking like a goddess assassin, if that makes sense. She approached me. "Who are you?" I asked. The woman looked at me with longing eyes and a proud smile, as if she knew I would do better. "My name is not important," she said softly, "but one day, you will know. For now, I am here to remind you of your purpose." "What purpose?" "That," she said, pointing to my heart, "is for you to discover. Your path is yours to shape. The choices you make will define your destiny. Remember, you have the power to create change, to heal, and to protect. But how you choose to do that is entirely up to you." She probably noticed the crease on my forehead. She smiled and tapped my back. "The road ahead will not be easy, Isla. But I trust that you will not fail and let darkness take over." How did she know my name? The woman turned her back, and I unconditionally followed her. We walked into a green field. The air felt light, and the place was peaceful—like a realm of goddesses and gods. Butterflies and birds fluttered over the field. "Topias wanted to reign over the land, but he can't defeat the Elders. So he wanted you to change it. You can change it." She began after a long silence. What does she meant by that? Could she be the Moon Goddess? I shook my head, doubting. It can't be. The Moon Goddess doesn’t show herself easily. "It has long been his dream for decades, but he can never succeed," she said, pausing in her walk to glance at me and then at my chest. I unconsciously touched my chest and felt the necklace hanging from it. I looked at the necklace and wiped it. Nanna Sienna said my mother gave this to me when she left me. Since then, I have never taken it off, and it has never broken. "He knows you can change the future. They want to release your power so they can use you," she added, as if she knew everything that was going on. "I am just a seer. How can I change the future?" I am neither a god nor a goddess. I don’t have such power. I don't even think that's possible. Nobody can change the future, let alone fate. It has long been set, and everyone is just waiting for the day to end to proceed to the next. I am not capable of such power. "You're not just a seer, Isla. You are the daughter of the most powerful seer and the God of Change." I know my mother, Leonora, is a great seer, but I haven’t heard Dion, his father, or any Walker mention my father. What does she even mean by the God of Change? Is there such a thing? I don’t love history or read mythology, so I don’t know much about them. "How did you know all of this? I don't even know my parents. Now, I feel like my existence is just an illusion." I saw a flash of pain in her eyes that vanished as quickly as it appeared. I could sense the disappointment in her aura, like a shadow of failure. "Everything has a reason... just remember it's for the best. Go back for now and do what you must." I had many questions, confusion swirling in my mind, but before I could speak, she faded into thin air, and I was pulled back into consciousness. Who is she? "She's awake." My eyes wandered, and I noticed Dion standing next to an omega. I was dressed in new clothes, but my mind lingered in what felt like a dream. Then I remembered what had happened before I fainted. I had to obey Dion and his father, or else they would attack Starfall. The thought of them doing the worst to the people I cared about filled me with a deep sense of anger. "Be good, Olivia. We have a deal," Dion reminded me after the omegas tended to me. They left some food on my table, but I didn't feel hungry. When everyone left my room, I stood up and peeked out of the tiny window. It was dark outside, and there was no light. "Do not let them use you for their dark motives." The words echoed in my head as my eyes lingered outside. I could see nothing, but the more I stared into the void, the more I felt the presence of the Walkers. They were the dark side of the realm. If the Elders couldn't stop them, who else could? The Moon Goddess? Why hadn't she found a solution for this? A lot of thoughts filled my head, mostly questions and confusion. The Walkers were already wealthy in territory; they were powerful and feared by most packs. Why did they want to rule the whole realm? For what purpose? I heaved a sigh, feeling so lost. My hand reached for my necklace as I tried to remember all the stories Nanna Sienna had told me about my parents. I hadn’t seen them; their pictures were ruined and some were damaged by the past typhoons. But if my parents were that powerful, why did they still die? If my father is the God of Change, how could he not change his destiny? As my head throbbed with all these questions, I noticed the pendant of my necklace glowing. It was an olive color, reminiscent of nature, and it kept blinking. My eyes slowly widened; this had never happened before. What could this mean? The light slowly spread along the chain until the entire necklace was glowing. For the first time, my veins—violet, red, and green—glowed alongside it, as if a surge of electricity flowed within me. I felt somehow... comforted. While I felt soothed, the rumbling of metal from my door jolted me, and the light immediately dimmed. "I saw it. She was glowing earlier, like an ethereal goddess of change," the guard said proudly to Dion. I almost forgot there were guards stationed at my door. When Dion's eyes met mine, I shook my head, rejecting the guard's words. "It's not true. He's making up stories." The guard glared at me with angry eyes. "She showed up. Believe me, sir, the goddess has appeared." Dion walked closer to me and squatted down to meet my gaze. Slowly, he reached for my hand and felt my pulse. "Call Violeta. I need to confirm something," he said, commanding. The guard stepped back, hesitating for a moment before leaving the room. Soon after, he returned with Violeta. She glanced at me with a serious expression, then turned her attention to Dion. “Step aside,” she kneeled beside me. She placed her hands on my temples and with a calm voice, she began to chant. "By the light of the moon and the depth of the sea, I call upon the spirits that dwell within me. Reveal the truth, let the veil be torn, Show me the power that in this child is born." As she finished the chant, a heavy silence fell over the room. After what felt like forever, her eyes slowly widened in surprise. She turned to Dion with a pale face and nodded slowly. “It’s true,” she whispered in shock. “She suddenly carries the mark of the Goddess.”
