Chapter 4

Enam I was starting to feel as if a piece of me was missing, a huge piece that I haven't felt in a while. No matter how much I tried to ignore it, my wolf had been a apart of me since the day I had conciousness of my surroundings. Now I was stuck with a cynical, stuck up, she-wolf that tells me everything that I do is wrong. Even when things has been a piece of cake, there was constant nitpicking. If anything, I've grown annoyed. "Alpha, I was told to redirect my questions to you. Can I have a moment of your time?" My peace interrupted by a short, sultry woman, an omega. She looked at me with a phony smile as her eyes zeroed in on me. I smiled and nodded as she took a step closer. "What can I do for you?" I inquired. "Well, I wanted to know, would there be a new curfew implemented?" She questioned. She tucked her arms behind her back, pushing out her breast. The more that she tried to look innocent the more the act became more...obvious. I stepped back and took in her features, from the tight, red coils on her head to the curvaceous roads of her hips. "Who sent you? Was it my mate?" I chuckled. An amused smile found the way to her thick lips, "Why would you assume that? I'm guessing you haven't heard about me." She tilted her head to the side. "Alpha...can I have a word with you?" I look up to see Hazina approach us, the omega shrunk aside. There was a tense air between the two but I gave my full attention to the former Luna. Hazina didn't hide her expression that she was not happy with the omega and it was fully understood that there was bad blood between them. "I will take my leave, Alpha." The omega bowed out, walking away. "I'd steer clear of that one if possible." She hummed. "Is it a discipline issue?" I inquired. "No, she's not a bad person but she's unmated and--well whats the nicest term?" She sighed, "she gets around." "Oh..." I trailed off. "Technically, you're still unmated." She smiled kindly. "Got it...her poison is messing with unmated wolves." I nodded. "How are you settling in? You're doing alright?" She asked. Could do a better job, insufficient. I smiled and sighed, "I'm settling fine, ma'am. I just wish there was some way I could appease Kymbre's wolf." I admitted. "No worries about her, maybe a run could do you both good." She suggested. I wanted to ask about Kymbre, it's been forty-eight hours and she hasn't moved into our estate as of late. It felt like I was being rejected all over again. And sure, it was painful for my wolf but I had grown to like her over the years that I had known her. She was headstrong but kind. "How's Kymbre doing with the transition of everything?" I asked. She motioned for us to start walking and I followed her towards the nursery area. Pups were running around, playing and enjoying themselves. Some were shifted and some weren't. "The transition hasn't been smooth but she's getting there, at the moment her things are being moved into the estate." She hummed. "Well that's something." I nodded. I understand that it wasn't easy to let go of her position but she had known that she had a mate. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with being Luna. It's still a powerful and respectful position. "She's a very headstrong pup, but she wasn't always like that. She used to hold onto my apron tail." She smiled fondly as if rewatching a memory. "But she found her calling and admired her father so much?" I hummed. Hazina looked to me and shook her head, she nodded, motioning me to follow her. We walked further into the forest and we neared a lake that was surrounded by tall trees. She sat at the edge and dipped her hand into the water causing small ripples. "When she was just a pup, almost as if it was yesterday, there was a rogue attack. Yohance and I were still new at everything, I was trying hard to be a good Luna and I was making sure that everyone was moved to safety." She sighed. I took a seat next to her. "I wasn't thinking, just for a split second. I forgot about her, but I took off to find her and I was cornered. It wasn't a fair match, five versus one. The leader of the rouged pack took her." It wasn't her fault... "It wasn't your fault...you shouldn't blame yourself." She smiled and nodded, "She had gotten confused and went the wrong way but those were the longest three months of my life and I couldn't help but blame myself." She said. "So she grew up, wanting to be able to keep up and become stronger. What made her want to take over the role of Alpha?" I questioned. Hazina giggled, "Her admiration for her father." She answered. Don't think you'll be getting any closer, we still don't like you. I sighed and shook my head as I looked out at the lake, it was a beautiful sight to see. Hazina looked up and rose to her feet, she reached out a hand to me and pulled me into the bushes. We crouched down and hid away. "Stay quiet, she usually comes here to get her bearings. I just love watching her, to be herself. Not Alpha, not a leader, just my pup." She cooed. Kymbre appeared shortly, she was shifted and shook out her fur. She walked to the edge of the lake before jumping in. She pawed at the water excitedly. It was a sight to see, surely. Don't even think about it I couldn't help but smile, her wolf was just as stubborn as her. "We should give her, her privacy. I still have things to settle." Hazina whispered. I peeked back at Kymbre and she was gone, I stiffened as I felt a presence behind me. I slowly turned to see Kymbre, she growled as she pushed her face against mine. It was menacing but still adorable. "Oh, stop it. You enjoy yourself, make sure you're back at the house before it get dark." Hazine caressed her fur. Kymbre huffed and jumped over the bush as she walked around a tree and settled under the shade. Hazine smiled and walked off, I followed behind shortly. So the she do have other sides to her. As we returned to the pack house, I was met with a blood churling scream in my ear. A wolf was attacking a pack member, surely they all knew the wolf because nobody deemed it an issue. But I'd rather not have pack members ripping each other to shreds. Before I could step in my father caught the wolf by the tufts of its neck, pulling them off the woman that was attacked. Hazine helped the woman up and I neared my father to see about the other. "Shift back," I demanded, "now." "Ah, it's alright. She didn't mean any harm, she was just staking her claim." He hummed. I looked to him and then at the woman, the same whom I spoke to earlier. She shrunk back behind him as the other woman on the ground finally made it to her feet. She snatched away from all that helped lunging forward. "Even the Moon Goddess wouldn't have pity for the b***h to give her a mate. She's undeserving." She sneered. "You've spoken enough, you can meet me in my office first." I held her arm, pulling her along as she refused. I glanced back at my father as he comforted his...his mate? Second mates aren't often, only in certain occasions but it's never been that one mate has a second chance while the other is their first. "Alpha! I demand that she get the highest punishment that can be given." I turned to face her, "Who are you to give me demands? Hmm? Tell me, who are you?" I questioned. She refused to speak again and followed quietly. "Sit." I opened the door. "I'd rather stand," She huffed, "I shouldn't be the one being detained." I shrugged, "Humor me, are you not mated yet?" I questioned. Her brow twitched from irritation, "I rejected him." "Even after the month-long trial?" I hummed. "Obviously, he comes from a poor pack. What I did was what was best for my pack. They simply wanted to take advantage of our resources." She claimed. "Is that so? Lucky him for dodging a bullet." I muttered. "Oh please, I'm not as shallow as you're thinking." "Uh huh," I mumbled, shifting through the desk drawer. "Am I free to go now? I'm calm." Just then the door opened, Kymbre walked in with a towel hanging from her neck. The she-wolf began fidgeting in the chair. Kymbre narrowed her eyes at her as she crossed the floor. "I didn't do anything!" "Shut your mouth." Kymbre gritted, giving her a swift slap across the face. "You had one last warning, now it's time for a punishment." The she-wolf dropped to her knees, "Please....I truly didn't do anything!" She pleaded. "Solitary confinement, three days. You're lucky I've spoken with Irina, no you should be thanking her that she took accountability. So, go do that first then report to Sector three for your punishment." Kymbre instructed. Once she had left the room, it was just Kymbre and I. She raised a brow as I closed the desk drawer. "Isn't there like a rule book around here? I had a dictionary-thick book to learn and memorize back home. Don't you have anything similar?" I asked. Kymbre sighed and walked to the far closet, she opened it and it was full of books. She glided her finger across the spines and stopped at the third biggest one that was there. "This is the book of rules, the others are also very important and should be learned and memorized as well." She tossed the book over to me. "What the fuck..." "I started learning when I was thirteen, honestly between training and learning I actually enjoyed it. Our pack history is truly my favorite read." She said. I will die of boredom if I have to read a entire closet of books. Then you are not fit to be Alpha, at all. "I will not have an i***t for a mate, do not make me look bad." Kymbre warned. I smiled, "Are you finally accepting me as your mate?" "We'll see after your test." She smirked. "Test? What test?" My brows furrowed. "Oh, you'll see. Study up, you'll need it when it's time." She grinned as she left me.
