“My grandparents taught me to respect the elders, but if you lay one finger on me, I will break all ten of them!” I warn him.
He stops in his tracks and stares at me, a perplexed expression on his face.
“Back off!” I order.
He chuckles but does take a few steps back.
“You are your mother’s daughter.”
“You knew my mom?” I ask, warily.
“Yes. We were… Friends.” He says hesitantly.
I squint my eyes at him, carefully studying the lines on his face. I have been fooled one time too many!
“When did you meet?”
“Way before you were born. Before she even met your father.”
My eyes never leave him, but I can’t find any sign of deception, any hint that he is lying.
“I also know your grandparents, Aiyla and Emir. Are they still in the UK?” he asks and my hackles rise instantly.
