She didn't know what inside Charles' mind because this all never happened when they were still married. He was always drunk whenever he was taking her in.
Those times were still very clear to her. The times that she was suffering in silence and cried in silence while Charles was on her side. Those times she tried to bear all the pain because she had hope that she could save their marriage.
She never experienced this gentleness from him back then. She was quietly staring at him until they finally got back inside his office and started to wear the clothes that they were wearing earlier.
