Chapter 2

1069 Words
Some time ago, Alpha Alaric of the Silvermoon pack contacted me and said that the pack needed a head chef. I was known to be the best cook in the pack, and that's why he hoped that I would return there. However, I flatly refused. I couldn't go back and do my duty there because I was Luna in the Nightclaw pack, and I had to serve here. But after everything that's happened, maybe it's good that I should go back. The attack from the Rogues, Jason's attitude of always not considering my existence because he was more concerned with Grace, and what hurt me the most was that I had lost my future baby. After I carefully thought about the offer, it seemed that I was better off returning to the Silvermoon pack. It was pointless for me to be here anyway, in a place that didn't acknowledge my existence. Even my husband didn't seem to think much of me. "Hello, Cassandra. Why have you been silent all this time?" The voice of Alpha Alaric on the other end of the phone suddenly made me gasp in surprise. I had been so busy thinking about my life right now, that I had forgotten that my call and Alpha Alaric's were still connected. "Oh, yes, alpha. I'm sorry I didn't hear you earlier." I said, forced to lie. "All right, Cassandra. So what about that wish of yours? Are you going back to pack Silvermoon?" "Yes. I'll go back there, but I have to finish my work here first." I replied because I didn't want Alaric to know that Jason and I weren't doing well. "I'm very happy to hear that. I'm very supportive of your good intentions, Cassandra. Pack Silvermoon will always welcome you." Alaric sounded very pleased. "Thank you for the opportunity you've given me. I'll do the job to the best of my ability." After our call was disconnected, I paused and took a deep breath. Catherine, the wolf in my body began to move, allowing me to hear her voice. "Are you sure about this decision, Cassandra?" Catherine's question made me hesitate a little. However, when I remembered Jason's treatment of me, the intention to leave this pack grew even more. "Yes, Catherine. I'm very sure of my decision." "If that's your decision, then I will support you." --- Tonight, I have finished what Jason ordered me to do. The smell of grilled meat and spices filled the air in this luxurious dining room. I looked at the dining table that had been neatly set with small candles and hoped that Jason would come home soon. However, that hope felt like an empty dream. "Why do I keep doing this? I'm Luna, but it's like I'm just a chef in rank omega." I muttered as I placed the last napkin on the plate. "This might be the last time I cook for Jason. It's all for Grace anyway." I again heard Catherine's voice in my body complaining softly. "Why do you let yourself be treated like this, Cass?" However, I was silent and didn't want to respond to her question. Suddenly, my cell phone rang. I quickly picked it up and saw that there was a call from Beta Kenneth. I answered the call immediately because Beta didn't usually call if there wasn't something very important. "Hello, Beta. What's up?" I asked with an uneasy feeling. "Hello, Luna. I have some bad news." "What bad news?" "Elder Charles is dead," Beta replied, which left me in shock. --- The funeral that night went smoothly. Flock of the Nightclaw pack in the silence of the night and only the sound of quiet weeping could be heard. There I saw Jason, but it wasn't me at his side. I saw my husband hugging Grace tightly, even kissing the top of her head occasionally. My eyes burned at the sight. It was my husband! It should have been me he was hugging, not her. He didn't even comfort me or hold me when I lost our baby-to-be! "Don't you cry anymore, Grace! I will always be by your side. Even though your father is dead, you still have me." Jason said softly. I approached with my chest already thundering, then stood a few steps away from them. Grace caught my gaze, making her quickly remove the hug from Jason's body. Her face looked like she wanted to apologize, but I didn't need that. I felt like slapping them both in front of the pack, but I knew my place. I could behave at the cemetery to honor Elder Charles' passing. As the cemetery began to quiet down, only the three of us remained. Jason was still hugging Grace and whispering something that made the girl give a small nod. "After Elder Charles died, I couldn't let Grace stay alone. Starting tonight, she will live in our mansion." Jason said suddenly while looking at me with an undeniable gaze. "Living in our mansion?" I asked almost in disbelief. My chest felt like it had been hit by something extremely painful. "She's homeless now, Cass," Jason replied flatly. "As Alpha, I'm responsible for the welfare of all pack members. You have no right to stop me." I froze in the silence of the night. His words were heartbreaking. So painful! "Did you hear that, Cass? He cares more about her than he does about you." Catherine muttered in a voice full of hurt. I couldn't take it anymore. Wordlessly, I turned around and left them at the cemetery. I couldn't hold back the tears anymore, they just fell all the way home. Arriving home, I immediately ran to my room. There, I burst into tears while staring at the wardrobe. My mind was a mess at the moment. "This is enough. I can't stay here anymore." I whispered to myself. With tears in my eyes, I opened the closet and started putting my clothes into the suitcase. Catherine sounded doubtful, though I knew that she would support me. "Are you sure you want to leave, Cass? This is your home too." "I can't hold on, Catherine," I replied softly while wiping away tears. "Jason doesn't care about me anymore." As I was packing my clothes, the bedroom door suddenly opened loudly, revealing Jason standing there with a flat face. "Cassandra, what are you doing?" He asked in a stern tone.
