Chapter 13: A Web of Deceit
As the night wore on, Emily found herself caught in a web of deceit and secrets. Alexander's true intentions were unclear, and Victoria's presence continued to unsettle her.
James, too, seemed to be hiding something. Emily sensed a growing distance between them, as if he was pulling away from her.
Determined to uncover the truth, Emily approached Rachel, who was sipping a drink at the bar. "Rachel, can I ask you something?" Emily said, her voice low.
Rachel turned to her, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "What is it, Emily?"
"What do you know about Victoria's past?" Emily asked, her eyes locked onto Rachel's.
Rachel's expression changed, a flicker of unease crossing her face. "I don't know much," she said finally. "But I do know she's been involved with some shady people in the past."
Emily's mind raced with possibilities. What had Victoria done? And how did it involve James?
Just then, Alexander appeared, his eyes fixed intently on Emily. "We need to talk," he said, his voice urgent.
Emily hesitated, unsure what to do. But something about Alexander's words resonated with her. She knew she had to uncover the truth, no matter what secrets she might uncover.
