"Emily, there's something I need to tell you," he said, his voice low and husky. Emily's heart skipped a beat as James led her to a bench. They sat down together, the water lapping gently against the shore. "What is it, James?" Emily asked, her voice barely above a whisper. James took a deep breath before speaking. "I've been keeping a secret from you, Emily. A secret that could change everything." Emily's mind raced as James paused, collecting his thoughts. "I have a daughter," James said finally, his eyes locked onto hers. "A daughter I never told you about." Emily's world came crashing down around her. A daughter? How could James have kept this from her? Chapter 7: A Life-Changing Revelation Emily felt like she'd been punched in the gut. A daughter? James had a daughter? She couldn't process this information. "Who is she?" Emily asked, her voice shaking. "Her name is Sophia," James replied, his eyes filled with a mix of emotions. "She's four years old, and she's the light of my life." Emily's mind reeled as she tried to wrap her head around this news. James had a child, a child he'd never mentioned. "Why didn't you tell me?" Emily demanded, feeling a wave of anger wash over her. James sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I was young and scared, Emily. I didn't know how to be a father, and I didn't want to burden you with my mistakes." Emily felt a pang of hurt at his words. He'd kept this secret from her, a secret that could have changed everything. But as she looked into James's eyes, she saw the sincerity there, the regret. She knew she had to hear him out. "Tell me more," Emily said, her voice softening. James nodded, taking a deep breath. "Sophia's mother and I were together briefly. We were young and stupid, and we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. When Sophia was born, I knew I had to step up and be a father to her." Emily listened, entranced, as James told her about his journey as a single father. She saw the love in his eyes, the devotion, and her heart melted.
