Chapter 3: A Glimpse of Regret As the night wore on, Emily and James found themselves lost in conversation. They talked about their dreams, aspirations, and the mistakes of their past. Emily couldn't help but notice the way James's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled, or the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck. As they danced, James's hand brushed against hers, sending a spark of electricity through her body. She felt a flutter in her chest, and for a moment, she forgot about the heartache he had once caused her. "I'm sorry, Emily," James said, his voice low and sincere. "I was young and foolish. I didn't appreciate what we had until it was too late." Emily's heart skipped a beat. She had waited years to hear those words, but now, she wasn't sure if she could forgive him so easily. "Why now, James?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why after all these years?" James's eyes locked onto hers, filled with a deep regret. "Because I've realized that I never stopped loving you, Emily. And I don't want to spend another day without you by my side." Emily's heart raced as she searched his eyes for sincerity. Could she trust him again? Or was this just another charming lie?
