David I slammed the door of Laura’s apartment behind me, the sound echoing in the hallway like a punctuation mark on yet another disastrous conversation. The sting of her words clung to me, and my mind spun with thoughts. How could she accuse me of trying to control her again? I’d worked so damn hard to put my obsessive tendencies in check. Sure, I had my methods, but wasn’t compromise supposed to go both ways? As I reached the car, I muttered to myself, “I stopped monitoring her phone. I let her talk to Ryan without barging in.
