  Christian's POV   The notification blinked on my screen like a slap to the face.   "Effective immediately, Christian Kennedy is no longer assigned to the Ezra case. Ezra's case has been reassigned."   What? I stared at the message, rereading it twice just to make sure I hadn't misunderstood. But no, it was clear. Ezra, my client, the one I'd been handling for weeks, was no longer mine.   A strange stillness settled over me. My fingers tightened around the phone as if I could squeeze an explanation out of it. My jaw was tense. A surge of confusion rushed in first. There hadn't been any issues, no missed deadlines, no complaints. So why the sudden shift?   I made a beeline for Mr James' office.
