Searching for Answers

Calvin's P.O.V

I walked over to Orla who was not only my mates handmaiden, but also her trusted friend. She was still huddled in the corner shivering in fear. Also with her was Maggie our midwife and pack healer who seemed frightened by the whole ordeal, but still trying to comfort Orla.

"It's alright, he's gone now." I said trying to comfort the both of them as I held out my hand to help them to their feet.

"Who was that?" asked Orla.

"What did he do?" asked Maggie almost at the same time.

" I'm not sure who he was, I didn't get a good look at his face with that hood covering it." I said in answer to Orla's question.

"As for what he did, it's absolutely terrible" my voice shook as I tried to hold in all the emotions whirling inside me while I filled them both in on what had happened.

Orla gasped and covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes widened with concern. Maggie clenched her fists like she wanted to hit something.

"Do either of you know anything we can do to fix this?" I asked searching their faces for any sign that they might know a solution. Orla spoke first.

"Well for the same reason that Adeline should have been a very powerful wolf, any spell cast tonight will also be very strong" Orla's lip quivered as if she were fighting to hold back the tears.

"We could talk to the Elders to see if they've heard about anything like this, but curses are usually all unique and tailored to the individual or group they are meant for." Maggie said.

"Is there a possibility that someone could reverse it or do something like give a blessing tonight?" I asked them both, being as Maggie was a healer and Orla had a lot of knowledge of various magic and such.

"It would have to be a very strong sorcerer or sorceress and even then it wouldn't fully clear the curse. It could weaken it at best. The only one that can reverse it is the person who cast it," Orla said. Maggie nodded her head in agreement.

"Do you know anyone like a witch or wizard with magical powers or any sorcerer or sorceress?" Maggie asked me.

I thought about it for a few moments then shook my head no.

"The night is going to be over soon and we have no plan, to weaken the curse it will have to be done on her birthday and one with a black moon to have the most power." said Orla.

"Do you know when there will be a black moon on her birthday again?" I asked Orla.

"I have no idea, my advice is to find a stargazer, someone who has been watching and keeping records of the night skies," Orla's eyes were cast downward in defeat and she sighed in frustration as she answered me.

"We need to find someone tonight who might have the answer if a black moon never falls on her birthday again our only chance to do anything will be in the next eighteen hours. I'll send a mind link to the pack to see if anyone can help us"

"Are you sure you want to do that?" Maggie asked me. " If you involve the whole pack everyone will know and if we can't remove it she'll be vulnerable."

"That is true, but if someone has an answer then we have to ask everyone, and then she won't be vulnerable if we find a solution." I said as I thought it through. "If I found out later that someone in our pack might be able to help us and I didn't ask out of fear, I could never forgive myself, we have to ask everyone."

Orla and Maggie both nodded in agreement. I walked over to Amelia and told her what we discussed. I looked at her holding our sweet pup she was so beautiful.

"Yes Calvin, I agree, send out a message through the mind link to the entire pack, we have to do everything we can," Amelia said to me without a second thought.

"Alright, let's hope someone can help tonight" I said to Amelia as I squeezed her hand with mine.

I cleared my mind and tapped into the pack connection which was always open. As Alpha I could mind link the whole pack simultaneously.

~ " I have an announcement everyone, tonight my beautiful mate and I welcomed a new pup into our pack a baby girl and we named her Adeline. However along with this good news we have some bad and we need everyone's help. She was cursed moments after her birth and we need someone who knows a powerful magical being or a stargazer. Please report back to me as soon as possible, thank you all." ~

We waited as the seconds passed, there was a knock on the door and my beta Craig walked in, he was young having just taken over for his father who was my best friend. Despite his young age he had a commanding presence with his six foot frame. His wavy auburn hair fell over his peircing blue eyes when he bowed his head towards me. He still was formal with me despite being like a nephew to me.

"I'm sorry to hear what happened Alpha Calvin, I never left my post how did this happen? I swear I never let anyone past me." Craig said in a deep voice, with uncertainty as he feared the repercussions of failing his Alpha.

"It is not your fault Craig it was a powerful being who got through security tonight. No one could have stopped him, don't blame yourself." I tried to reassure Craig, but I knew he would be really hard on himself.

"I myself have a young pup, and I don't know what I would do if something like this were to happen to him." Craig said to me. "Have you heard anything from the pack yet? Is there anyone who can help?"

"Nothing yet," I replied to Craig.

Sinead's P.O.V

I sat straight up in bed as I could feel the pull of the Alpha, he was about to make an announcement. It must be urgent at this hour , I could see from my window it was pitch black outside and storming. I listened intently to the Alpha's announcement. After hearing what the Alpha had to say I quickly got out of bed and headed out of my room. I lived in a small cottage but I had a study room with a balcony upstairs. I walked out of my room and through the Kitchen to the stairs. I hurried up to my study and started looking at all my research taking a quick note of my records. Hopefully something I had was useful to the Alpha. I have many star charts and records scattered throughout the room, being seven hundred years old there was a lot. I mind linked the Alpha, which I haven't done in about 100 years, this Alpha may not even be aware of my existence. I always felt the shift of power to the new Alpha over the years, but I preferred to keep to myself, people would seek me out now and then of they needed me.

~"Alpha, I think I might be able to help."~ I projected through the mind link.

Calvin's P.O.V

I'd been waiting what seemed like hours for a response to my announcement to the pack, when I heard a soft feminine voice through the mind link.

"Someone in our pack says they might be able to help," I said to everyone in the room.

Everyone immediately looked relieved with the good news. Orla and Maggie smiled, and Craig gave a nod to me. Amelia gave a tentative smile in my direction.

~"Can you come to the castle tonight it's urgent,"~ I mind linked the woman who just moments before had said she could help.

~ "I'm on the far north of the territory, but I should be able to get there in an hour. Is there anything specific I should know so I can bring what I need?"~

~"Adeline was cursed and we need information on moon phases or someone who can give a blessing to weaken the curse, along those lines."~ I replied in the mind link to the mysterious woman.

~"I'll be there as soon as I can."~ The soft voice said back to me in my mind.

Amelia's P.O.V

Everyone in the room looked so anxious. Calvin was pacing at the foot of the bed while he was speaking with someone in the mind link. Craig was sitting at the door with his elbows on his knees rubbing the back of his neck, still looking as if he was trying to figure out how someone got in. Maggie and Orla were trying to keep themselves busy with organizing blankets and outfits for Adeline. Calvin stopped pacing and turned to look at me.

"She is on her way, Love," Calvin said to me.

"Do you think she'll get here in enough time to help?" I asked Calvin.

"It's amazing that we have even found someone who might have some answers for us." He replied to my question.

I looked at the sweet baby snuggled in my arms with her head in the crook of my elbow. Why would anyone do this to such a beautiful innocent little baby girl? Right then I made a promise to my little girl.

"Adeline, no matter what happens I will be here for you, I will love and protect you always. I will do everything I can to find a way to ease this curse and fight against this awful thing that has been done to you," As I said my promise with every intention of keeping it.

Adeline opened her eyes and tried to focus on my voice and face as I was talking to her. She still had the newborn dove grey in her eyes but I could see some hints of sea green like her father's eyes. I prayed to the moon goddess that we could help our sweet girl.

"Please," I prayed "let this woman who is coming, get here in time to give us some information that might be able to help." I sent up my plea to the Moon Goddess.
