Chapter 7: Seeking Help

3025 Words
Unknown P.O.V   I managed to escape the territory and no one even suspects me, I left the pack two years ago. I’m a conjurla wolf but have hidden my powers from everyone. Conjurla wolves are very rare and are often killed making them even rarer. Other wolves would kill us for our blood thinking it would make them more powerful, at least that is what I was taught. Witches and wizards feared us as well because our magic was different than theirs, we could do magic without the use of tools such as wands. Generally, werewolves and witches and wizards were able to get along just fine but when a werewolf came along with magic, they didn’t like it. Almost like magic is only reserved for them and anyone else who has magic is an abomination. It’s a risk to make yourself known as a conjurla and I decided it was safer if no one knew. I had been waiting for my revenge on Calvin for so long it was so good to finally start my plan in motion. I had not known the child would be a female but I made a last-minute decision that makes my plan so much better. I smiled at the thought of it all coming together for me.  Now all I had to do was wait in hiding until the time comes for the rest of my plan to work. I found a perfect hideaway not too far from the territory so I could watch to make sure the curse went according to plan. The forest around the hideaway was quite dense an added barrier of protection in case anyone came near. I put up a glamour spell that would further disguise the hideaway in case anyone with prying eyes came looking.    Sinead’s P.O.V  I stayed at the castle in the guest chambers. The room was very cozy, the large four poster bed against the wall opposite the fireplace was made up with royal blue bedding. The fur throws made the floor so much warmer. There were large glass doors across from the entry to the room, that went out onto a large balcony. I loved balconies it made looking at the stars and the moon so much nicer. After enjoying the view from the balcony, I returned inside to continue my search.  It was imperative that I continued watching the night skies now more than ever. I stayed up looking through the rest of the moon phases for March going back 500 years. I couldn’t go back any further than that because that was all I had been able to bring with me. I was looking for a change in the pattern just in case, I didn’t want to miss anything. Long after midnight came and went, I still had found no change, no strange occurrences of the night skies that was unexpected. There was nothing else to go from tonight and I was still certain that the next black moon would be on Adeline’s nineteenth birthday. There was a very slim chance one could occur on her eighth birthday but the odds were against it. I was exhausted from staring at pictures and numbers so I put the lanterns out beside my bed, snuggled into the warm blankets and tried to sleep.    Calvin’s P.O.V  I woke early the next morning and opened the large floor to ceiling curtains covering the glass door and windows leading out to our balcony. Amelia loved the fact that our balcony faced east and we could watch the sunrise. The sun streamed through the windows instantly making me feel warmer. Amelia decided to stay in our rooms with Adeline for breakfast. She had told me she was still sore and achy from the labour which wasn’t surprising. I went down to the great hall for breakfast and to meet up with everyone from the night before. I sent the cooks to take Amelia her breakfast in our bedchambers and they obliged for her, understanding how she was feeling. Craig and my other Betas were already at the table eating breakfast which looked delicious. I sat with everyone including Sinead, Maggie and Orla.   “I am so sorry Alpha that we were unable to find any clues about the identity of the intruder.” Craig said, remorsefully. The other Betas nodded in agreement they too were disappointed with the outcome of the search.  “I’m sorry too, Alpha. I thought for sure Orla and I would be able to find someone with magical abilities” Maggie apologized as well.   “I know you all tried your best and I appreciate all your efforts. Everyone did well with the time limit that we had.” I attempted to make them feel better after all they had stayed up searching the kingdom for most of the night. I doubt my betas even slept at all.  “I as well have news to report,” Sinead said. I looked over at Sinead letting her know she had my full attention. “After going through the rest of the charts that had been organized, I never found any anomalies in the pattern of the black moons, meaning that the next black moon to land on Adeline’s birthday will be when she is nineteen. On the slim chance that I am wrong about any dates there could be one on her eighth birthday, but I doubt It” she finished what she was saying and looked apologetic as well. She had no reason to be sorry it’s not like she could change the phases of the moon.  “In that case I need to get started on asking the other packs in the area if anyone among them is magical and could help us. We need to be prepared in the rare event that a black moon unexpectedly occurs before Adeline is nineteen.” I said to everyone.  “I’m going to continue tracking the moon phases in the meantime, but I am going to do that from home. I will be leaving and taking my research home with me today.” Sinead said.  “I will have someone help you home Sinead, you are welcome to come back and visit anytime.” I said to her.  “Keon, will you escort Sinead home today?” I asked Keon, one of my other betas in the pack.   “It would be my pleasure” Keon responded.  “Craig, I need you to be in charge of things while I'm away at the other ally packs. I will be back as frequently as possible to check in and see how things are going and to spend time with my family. I trust you completely and believe that you can do this for me.” When I said this to Craig he smiled and nodded in my direction.  “It will be my honour, Alpha Calvin.” Craig replied to me.  Everyone finished their breakfast and left the table to go to the days' work. I went up to my bedchambers to say my goodbyes to Amelia and Adeline and I had the kitchens prepare a satchel of food for my trip. I didn’t want to leave my mate alone with our newborn pup after all we had been waiting so long. Amelia and I had been lucky enough to find each other when we were still quite young. Amelia had just turned 20 and I was 21, we met each other by chance when I was required to attend a meeting of the packs with my father. I was learning for when I would take over our pack. This particular meeting was a Territory and Allegiances meeting about the boundary lines of each pack territory. They were held once a year to discuss where our lands met and what changes there were to a pack such as a change to who the Alpha of each pack was. Amelia was an Alpha daughter of the Night Sky Pack also in attendance that day. When we met my life completely changed, I didn’t realize how dull my life had been before I found my mate for life. Our packs and lands merged because of our mate bond; we had a unification ceremony along with our wedding. It made me realize just how important the territory and Allegiance Meeting was.   Sometimes ties were severed with a pack that had turned bad and sometimes allegiances were made. A pack did not often turn bad, but this can happen when an Alpha is overtaken by another Alpha that doesn’t follow the werewolves code. One of the top rules of werewolves is to not turn humans into werewolves. The practice of turning a human was generally frowned upon as most didn’t survive the process and it was seen as a declaration of war because they were trying to increase the size of their pack for an attack. Another rule was to not use dark magic against another pack without provocation. Our main goal was to live as peacefully as possible, but fights did occur within packs and between packs. There were many other rules to live by that we all strived for and these meetings helped keep track of any changes among the other packs.  Of course, after I met Amelia there was a big change to our packs that had to be reported. It was fortunate that our pack lands were adjoining so it was not difficult to merge together our territories. We had two pack names The Night Sky Pack which was Amelia’s and mine which was the North Moon Pack. All this was announced during the unification ceremony and our unified pack name was changed to Night Moon Pack.   We were so busy for the first few years with the merging of our packs and simply running the pack that we didn’t have time for a pup. Things slowed down a bit after five years but then there was an attack on our pack that we had to deal with. We ended up in a battle that lasted five years before it ended, but after this we decided we were ready for a pup. We tried for years but it just wasn’t happening, and then we were attacked again and we still have not discovered the reason for the attack it was completely unprovoked as far as I could tell. After a few more years we finally learned we would be having a pup and were overjoyed with the news we would be parents. Now however, Amelia and I would be anxious about Adeline's future until we found a solution to the curse or a mate that we knew would protect her. Despite not wanting to miss time with Adeline it was too much for Amelia and Adeline to travel with me. I had to go alone.  I said my goodbyes to Amelia and Adeline and grabbed my satchel of food and set out for the closest ally pack the Harvest Moon Pack.    Amelia’s P.O.V  I was sad to see Calvin go we should both be getting to spend time with our daughter. Calvin had been so excited to be a father and already his need to protect his family was taking him away from us. The time it would take to travel to the closest pack, make the inquiry, and get back would be at least two days. Orla was a great help with Adeline, she had come to visit while Calvin was away. I had just finished nursing Adeline and Orla took her to try and get a burp up. Orla was holding Adeline against her chest with Adeline’s head resting just over her shoulder. Orla was gently bouncing Adeline while supporting her bum with one hand and patting Adeline's back with the other.  “Oh, I just can't get enough of that beautiful newborn scent,” Orla said. “I want so badly to have a pup of my own I wish I could just find my mate already.”   it wasn’t really a complaint but she was pouting a bit when she said this.  “I'm sure you will find your mate before it's too late for you to have pups. It will be fine. You'll make a great mom. You are already doing such a great job as Auntie to Adeline” I said to her.  “I hope I find him soon; I see how happy you are with Calvin and I want that too.” she said to me.  “I do too, I want you to be happy Orla you deserve it so much. I don’t know anyone kinder than you.” I told her.  “Do you think Calvin will find someone magical at the Harvest Moon Pack?” Orla asked me.  “It would be great if he did, then they would be close by to contact when we need them to come.” I answered.  “Yes, that would be nice” Orla said, just as Adeline let out a huge burp and promptly fell asleep with her head resting on Orla’s shoulder.   “It would also mean he wouldn’t have to leave again to another pack, we could just relax and be together as a family like we wanted.” This curse was ruining everything. Orla could see I was on the verge of tears and came over to give me a hug, albeit awkward due to Adeline still resting on her shoulder.  “Let us pray to the moon goddess that she keeps him safe while he is traveling from pack to pack and back here.” Orla and I both sent up a silent prayer to the moon goddess.   Orla got up and put Adeline in her cradle. Adeline looked so peaceful while she slept her little mouth puckered and her chin went up and down quickly as if she was nursing in her sleep. I smiled at the cuteness of it. At least Adeline would keep me busy while Calvin was away.    Calvin’s P.O.V  I made my way quickly through the forest in my wolf form my colouring is grey and white with green eyes similar to my human eye colour. Our wolves also had their own names given to them by the moon goddess and my wolfs name is Spirit. The forest was foggy and still slightly cooler. The snow had all melted away so the moss on the trees wasn’t frosted anymore. I jumped over the low-lying branches of trees covered in the beautiful green moss. I knew my wolf loved to run I could feel his joy at being free to run at top speed. After a while Spirit stopped at a shallow brook to get a drink. He was panting hard I could feel how tired he was we had traveled quite a long distance.   “Don't rest for too long we need to get moving” I said to him in our mind. This connection was different than the pack connection the wolf connection was private. I could talk to my wolf and he to me without anyone else knowing what was said between us. Well maybe the moon goddess could hear it and someone using specific powers but it was otherwise a private connection because it was all in our head.  “I wasn’t planning on it Calvin, Adeline is just as important to me as she is to you, I can feel your emotions as you can feel mine and my pain is your pain remember?” he said back to me.  “Yes, I know Spirit thanks for the reminder,” I said sarcastically.   “I'm hungry what did you bring to eat?” Spirit asked me.  “Roast chicken and cheese.” I answered.  Spirit relinquished his wolf form and we switched back to human form for our lunch. After I had something to eat, I switched back to wolf form and let spirit run again. The forest was getting darker, as the sun was setting some beams of light could be seen through the canopy of leaves. I was approaching the Harvest Moon Packs territory. It wasn’t long before I was at the edge and came across another massive wolf this one was brown and white with golden eyes. I knew he was another werewolf, specifically a guardian. A guardian's job was to patrol the perimeter of a territory and to alert the Alphas of anyone approaching whether they be friends or intruders. We both transformed back into human form, the fact that we had no clothes was of no consequence it was normal amongst werewolves because we didn’t always have clothes when traveling in wolf form. Most of us kept robes in small bunkers at the edge of a territory for the purposes of covering up and depending on the size of the territory the robes were easily carried by our wolves to the inner part of the territory if needed.   “Hello, I’m Alpha Calvin of the Night Moon Pack and I seek an audience with your Alpha.” I stated my reason for wanting entrance to their territory.  The other wolf stared at me for a moment and I am sure he was sending a mind link to his alpha about my arrival.  “You may enter, and I will escort you to our Alpha,” He said in a deep gruff voice. He walked over to a tree and pulled open a secret door on the ground in front of it, he reached in and grabbed two robes. He passed one to me then switched into wolf form picking his up in his jaws. He looked back at me waiting for me to do the same and follow him.
