Chapter 005
Elisabetta’s POV
My eyes flutter open, and I gently massage both sides of my head where there’s a striking headache. I try to remember where I slept, and memories from last night come flooding in.
Raffaele almost shot me! And everything else that happened after that was… I don’t even know how to describe it.
Aside him preparing a meal for us, he saw the tattoo and nearly strangled me to death. I can’t believe I’m a member of the Sicilians without even knowing, why would Zion even want me to be a member of a mafia organization, I’m not even from Sicily!
The rest of the night was a blur, Raffaele made me feel all sort of things. Nervous, anxious, terrified, aroused. I won’t deny how my body reacts when his touches mine, theres this heat that burns inside me, it burns my senses along with it because tell me why I wanted him to touch my cheek a little longer, and chock me a little harder, and stare at me with those eye’s filled with desires.
Did he carry me to my bed? His face was all over my dreams, chasing all the monsters away. Whatever happened yesterday, I think it unlocked something in me.
“Ugh!” I groan when I feel a sharp pain in my stomach. Getting up, I head to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Then, I start to feel something tickling down my leg. I look down, and I’m shocked to see blood.
“Guess my monthly visitor decided to come early.” I take a shower and get changed. Once I’m ready, I head back to my room, and my phone starts to ring almost immediately.
Grabbing it, I stare at the caller, and I’m paralyzed with fear. I switch off the phone and exit my room. Heading to the garden where Violet and I had tea, I take a seat on one of the chairs. Holding my bloated stomach, I fold my legs up into a more comfortable position while trying to understand why he’s suddenly calling me.
If there is one thing I’m grateful for since I came here, it’s leaving him behind, knowing he wouldn’t be able to control me anymore. But I also fear he might try to find a way back into my life again; he still wants me to be his puppet, and I won’t let that happen again.
I remember when I lost my dad; it was a shitty day. He and Mom kept having issues, and it was affecting me mentally. I caught him cheating on my mother, and he was denying it to my face, even when I showed him pictures of him and the woman.
I got very angry, and I left the house, telling him I was going to show the pictures to my mother, who was at work. He ran after me, and I pushed him back into the road right when a speeding car was coming… He got hit and lost his life.
I was devastated. I couldn’t bring myself to tell Mom that her husband died in the process of stopping me from revealing his affair to her and that I was the one pushed him, so I lied. I told her I was home when I got a call from the police that he got into an accident.
I thought I had escaped, but I was wrong; a friend of mine saw me, Zion. And when he knew I didn’t tell Mom the truth, he started to threaten me and made me do all sorts of nasty things; he even took advantage of me in various ways just to hide my secret.
He made me sneak into events and steal from people; that’s how I encountered Raffaele.
Zion made my life a living hell, and Mom was too busy with different men to know what I was going through. I was glad when I got to be away from him, but why did he decide to call me today?
“You’re a big thinker,” I hear someone say behind me. I turn and find Violet standing behind me. She’s all dressed in jeans and boots, with her blonde hair let loose; she looks savage.
“Where are you going in that hot outfit?” I ask her, smiling.
“Aww, thank you. I’m going shopping, and you should totally join me,” Violet answers.
Going outside of the house feels like a dream, but I haven’t had breakfast. Violet says we’ll get something on the way, so I change, and we get going.
When I agreed to go shopping with Violet, I expected a cool and calm clothes shopping experience, not three long hours of walking around a huge mall for clothes hunting.
I am exhausted by the time we return, and the little food I had earlier has left my stomach. My legs ache too. I can’t wait to take a shower and sleep…
“We should do a fashion show!” Violet suggests suddenly.
“You think so?” I ask tiredly.
“Yes, we’ll do it in your room; let’s go!” She’s dragging me before she even finishes the sentence, and the guards follow behind us with our loads.
We start another round of torture; Violet is super energetic while I’m about to pass out. We’ve changed into all the outfits we bought when Raffaele walks in, and my heart stops for a bit.
‘goddamn’
Raffaele is standing by the door side wearing gray sweatpants and black singlets; his abs and biceps glimmer under my gaze, and man, does he look breathtaking.
“You missed our fashion show, big brother,” Violet says.
“So that’s what all the noise was about,” Raffaele tells us, leaning on the frame with his legs crossed at the ankles. He stares closely at me for reasons I can’t explain.
Is it because of last night?
I look away, and trying to distract myself with anything, I find a dress in a bag that we haven’t tried out.
“Look, Violet, I haven’t tried out this one.”
“Oh, wait, I have something like that in my room. I’ll go bring it.” Violet is running out of my room as she speaks, and as she dashes past Raffaele, he starts walking towards me.
My nerves go alert, and I start to feel hypersensitive. Just then, my phone starts to ring from inside my purse. Fetching it, I find an unknown caller. For some reason, I know who it would be, but seeing Raffaele staring at me, I pick up, placing the phone on my ear.
There’s silence, then a haunting voice speaks.
“I’m watching you, Elisabetta. Think you can hide from me under the Italian mafia's protection? I’m coming for you, my doll.”
My skin gets cold, and I sway on my feet. The last thing I hear is the sound of my phone crashing and a faint sound of Raffaele calling my name before everything goes black.
