Chapter 3

Delaware quarters, The Sardis Renzo strode into the palace kitchen with a scowl on his face, his muscles tense and his nostrils flaring with anger. The cooks, sensing his rage, immediately fell silent and bowed their heads, afraid to meet his gaze. "What is this?" Renzo spat, gesturing at the plate of food in front of him. "Do you call this a meal? This is slop, not fit for a dog!" The head cook, a trembling omega with a white apron, stepped forward hesitantly. "I am sorry, my lord. We did our best with what we had." Renzo snarled in response, his voice rising to a furious growl. "Your best is not good enough! I demand better than this. I will not tolerate such incompetence in my kitchen." The other cooks cowered in fear as Renzo slammed his fist down on the table, causing plates and utensils to rattle. "I want a proper meal, and I want it now! Do you hear me?" Renzo is a skilled fighter and strategist, and he has no qualms about using violence and intimidation to get what he wants. He is feared by his enemies and respected (and sometimes even feared) by his allies. He is a dominant presence, both physically and mentally, and his sheer force of personality can make even the strongest-willed individuals think twice before crossing him. Renzo's desire for power is insatiable, and he longs to rule not just the Sardis wolf pack but also the entire Vista region. He dreams of uniting the four kingdoms of Bradds, Sardis, the North Pole, and Bilal under his rule and becoming the ultimate ruler of the land. Only one thing can make that happen: 'The Bathury Seal' When Renzo is angry, those around him often shiver in fear. His rage is known to be explosive and unpredictable, and even the slightest provocation can set him off. He has been known to lash out violently at those who have displeased him, leaving them battered and bruised. The head cook nodded quickly, his eyes wide with terror. "Yes, my lord. Right away, my lord." Renzo glared at the cooks for a moment longer before turning on his heel and stalking out of the kitchen, his rage still simmering just below the surface. The cooks breathed a collective sigh of relief, grateful to have avoided the full force of Renzo's anger. ****** Renzo was coming out of the kitchen, his face twisted in a scowl of anger. Afar, he saw his mate, Emilia, closing the garden door, with some flowers in her hands walking towards him. "Renzo…" Emilia called. He heard some noise coming from the courtyard. Ignoring her call, he strode towards the courtyard, his eyes narrowed and his fists clenched. He heard the sound of wailing and keening, and he knew that something terrible had happened. He quickened his pace, and when he burst out into the courtyard, he was met with a sight that made his blood run cold. His mother's body lay on a stretcher, surrounded by a group of warriors. Renzo's heart felt like it had been ripped from his chest as he gazed upon his mother's lifeless body. His heart sank as he looked at her still form, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing. It was only when one of the wounded warriors stepped forward and spoke that he was able to find his voice. "What happened?" he demanded, his voice harsh with anger and grief. The warrior explained what had happened, how Luna Aris had gone to seek revenge on Arlem, and had been killed in battle. Renzo listened in silence, his mind numb with shock. At least, his mother could have informed him about her plans. Renzo's eyes flashed with a feral rage as he heard the explanation about his mother's death. His body trembled with an anger that was both human and animal, and he struggled to contain the wolf within him. "How did you allow this to happen?" he growled, his voice low and menacing. "How did Arlem get the best of your Luna?" Renzo let out a feral snarl - so loud, as his eyes turned a deep shade of red, his claws elongating as he broke the large vase beside the court wall with a fast strike. "I will make him pay," he spat, his voice low and dangerous. "I will tear him limb from limb, and make him suffer for what he's done." The surviving warriors shifted uneasily, their eyes avoiding Renzo's intense gaze. Finally, one of the warriors spoke up, his voice trembling slightly. "They were stronger than us." he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Arlem's army were better skilled. We had no chance." Emilia stepped forward, her hand outstretched towards Renzo. She placed the hand on his shoulder, with her eyes brimming with tears."Calm down," she said, her voice soothing. "We'll make Arlem pay for what he's done." As the only sister of Alexis, Emilia didn't think twice before cutting all ties with her sister after the war between their kingdoms more than three years ago. She can't fight like her sister, but she knows the cards to play to get what she wants. That's her specialty: a compliment to Renzo's ruthlessness. "We'll find a way to make him pay, but we need to be smart about it. We can't rush into this blindly." Renzo took a deep breath, his claws slowly retracting. He knew that Emilia was right. They needed a plan, a way to take down Arlem without losing more lives in the process. Renzo felt a surge of grief and anger well up inside him. He had always known that Luna Aris was a fierce warrior, but he never imagined that she would meet her end in battle. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes as he approached the stretcher, his steps slow and deliberate. He reached out to touch her hand, but pulled back as if it was made of fire. "She's gone," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "My mother is gone." The warriors around him bowed their heads in respect, giving Renzo a moment to grieve. His mother had been a formidable warrior, and he had always admired her for her strength and courage. But now she was gone, and he felt a sense of overwhelming loss. For a long moment, Renzo stood in silence, staring at his mother's body. Finally, he turned to the warriors who had brought her body back. "Take her to the royal chambers," he commanded, his voice low and controlled. "We will hold a ceremony for her there." "I will go see my father now." The warriors nodded and lifted the stretcher, carrying it carefully towards the palace. Then he turned on his heel and marched back into the palace with them, his mind already racing with plans for revenge. He would make Arlem pay for what he had done to his family, no matter what the cost. And he would do it with the same ruthless determination that had made him a feared and respected leader.
