28 Poppy seemed as pleased as I was to return to the relative peace and rural beauty of Ashton Mead. As the train carried us closer to home, she grew excited and I was afraid she would urinate on the train. In a way, that might be even worse than if she defecated, because the pocket of my jeans was stuffed with dog poo bags. Thankfully there was no one sitting beside me to witness her leaving a deposit on my lap. It wouldn’t be pleasant, but it could be dealt with discreetly.
