Lisa POV:
A maid's screams and the sound of footsteps hurrying about awakened me up.
I furrow my brows a little and shake my head.
I got out of bed and made my way to my door.
Curious by the situation, I glanced around the hallway.
I then moved cautiously in Ace's direction.
I noticed Evelyn and a few maids standing there.
"How are you awake?" She looked at her brother and murmured.
I scowl a little—isn't she relieved that her brother is awake?
"Uhm, Evenly," I said as I entered the space.
Everybody jerked a head in my direction.
making me feel insignificant.
"Evelyn responded gently, "Yeah, uhm, everyone out, please," before turning to face her brother again.
"Ace, this is Nurse Lisa, she's the one taking care of you." With her brother's gaze fixed on her, she spoke softly.
She seemed to be in disbelief that he was still alive.
Did she not want him to survive?
I mutely said, "Hello," and glanced up.
Green eyes watched me as if I were in a film, staring back at me.
Ace remained silent and there was no conversation in the room.
"Out." Lowly, he said. His voice was incomprehensible.
from the period during which they were silent.
I nodded and turned to go as soon as he said it.
"Not you Lisa, Evelyn out." He stated.
My lips parted, and I turned to face the siblings.
There was a strained atmosphere surrounding them.
Evelyn did not waste time.
She hurried out of the room without even giving me a look.
As I lingered close to the entrance, Ace's sharp green eyes kept examining me. The only sounds that shattered the lingering calm were the faint sounds of activity outside. I released the calm strain by clearing my throat.
"How are you feeling, Ace?" I asked in a quiet, businesslike manner, aware of the obvious discomfort in the room.
His eyes remained fixed, and at last he spoke, his voice hoarse from lack of usage. "Alive. I'm assuming you're grateful."
A small nod confirmed what he had said. "I'm here to help with your recovery."
He looked at me for a second more, then motioned to a chair. "Sit."
The room was heated with unspoken emotions as I sat down. I pondered the strange dynamics surrounding Ace's waking as well as the intricacies of the relationship between these siblings.
Ace's keen gaze never left mine, creating a suspenseful atmosphere. I had the unshakeable impression that there was more going on here than first glance.
"Why did Evelyn react that way?" I took small steps forward, trying to figure out what the underlying conflicts were in the room.
He sighed, his face displaying a mixture of resignation and frustration. Evelyn believed me to be dead. She thought I wasn't coming back for weeks."
I took in the significance of what he said, understanding how his sister must have felt. The unspoken history between them hung in the air, making the space feel smaller.
"There's a price for survival," he said, looking off into the distance. "I wasn't sure I wanted to return."
I was taken aback by his vulnerability and began to wonder what hardships he had been through during his seeming absence.
I tried to seem sincere when I said, "I can't force you to embrace life again, but I'm here to support your recovery in any way I can."
The hard shell of Ace's eyes temporarily gave way to a softness.
"I didn't expect someone like you to be the one taking care of me."
That mysterious reply stuck with me, raising more questions than it did clarifying Ace's background and the circumstances of his recuperation.
I acknowledged the intricacy of the matter with a nod.
"People frequently astound us," I responded, looking him in the eye. "I'm here to assist with your physical recovery and provide support as you navigate this."
A mixture of interest and doubt filled Ace's eyes. "What happened to me?" he asked, maintaining a calm tone.
"Your condition was critical when you were discovered unconscious. I carefully considered my words as I stated that it required a lot of work to stabilize you.
He scowled, trying to piece together what he could remember. "I don't remember much."
"After an experience like that, that is normal. I comforted him, 'Your body needs time to heal, and memories may come slowly.
"It's time for you to take a bath," I stated as I got up from my chair.
Ace kept staring at me, giving me a weird feeling on the inside.
Why is he staring at me like this?
"I must assist you in standing up, but first, clothes," I said as I surveyed the space.
I turned to walk toward the closet as soon as I saw it.
"Do you like hoodies or do you want a shirt?" I questioned while glancing in his closet.
"Grey joggers and black top." I heard him utter.
I gave him a nod, got what he requested, and faced him again.
only to find his gaze already back on me.
I suppose I'll have to get used to his intense gaze.
"Do I need to call in a maid for you?." I questioned quietly.
Before you can see his legs, his head is tilted to the side.
"I thought you were my Nurse?" Grinning, he asked.
I hummed, then glanced at the door.
I inhaled and moved to face the big man.
I slipped and fell on his body, losing my balance under his armpit.
"Omg I'm so sorry." I get up and shriek out.
only to discover him giggling.
His head was tilted up, his eyes closed, and it was so adorable and loud.
I looked away, blushing uncontrollably.
"You thought you could carry me?" When he had stopped laughing, he asked quietly.
With a slow nod, I turn to face him and see his green eyes.
Ace shook his head and rose slowly to his feet.
"I don't think my legs got injured Lisa, so I'm good, could you please go make Breakfast for me?." Heading for his bathroom, he asked.
I gave him a brief glance before deciding whether or not I should follow him to make sure he didn't collapse.
He recently emerged from a coma.
"Lisa?" He said something that startled me out of my reverie.
"Yes, of course, what would you like to eat?." I enquired.
Ace gave me a brief glance before averting his eyes.
"Anything you would like, I'd like both of us to eat together please." Before shutting the door, he said.
leaving me momentarily perplexed, but once more, I simply shook my head.
moving in the direction of the stairs.
