Lisa's POV:
I woke up the following morning to the sound of my phone ringing loudly. I rolled to the other side of my bed and tried to pick it up from the desk, groaning as I went. Anger also caused me to utter another groan.
Even though I work as a nurse, I've never been good at getting up early. I was complaining as I got out of bed when I saw the bright sun coming through my curtains, indicating that it was already late morning. Checking the time on my phone, I saw that I had ignored my alarm and was now going to be late for my flight. Not a good start to the day.
Shaking my head, I proceeded toward my bathroom to get ready. Making sure to shave and clean my hair, I looked at myself in the mirror. I said to myself in a whisper, "You can do this, Lisa; it's just one patient." "Yeah, you can do this," I said, giving myself a pat on the shoulders.
With that, I stepped out of my restroom, heading toward my closet. I looked around before grabbing my sweatshirt and grey joggers. "Thank God I packed up my things yesterday."
I got dressed quickly, trying not to lose my cool in the face of the chaotic beginning. As I grabbed my packed suitcase, I mentally ran over the checklist to ensure I didn't forget any crucial stuff.
After running downstairs and grabbing a granola bar for a makeshift breakfast, I headed out the door, driven by the need to make my flight. As I rode in the taxi, I couldn't help but think back on the day's rocky start.
When I got to the airport, I breezed through security and dashed to the boarding gate, barely making it in time, breathless but relieved. As I settled into my seat on the plane, I couldn't shake the feeling that the day had already presented its fair share of obstacles.
Little did I know, this unexpected start was just the beginning of an unpredictable journey ahead.
During the flight, I took a deep breath and tried to shake off the morning's turbulence. As the plane ascended, my thoughts turned to the upcoming nursing assignment. I flipped through my notes and mentally rehearsed the details of my new patient's case.
Upon landing, I navigated the bustling airport and hailed another cab to take me to the house. The city's vibrant energy clashed with my fatigue, but I couldn't afford to let it slow me down. The drive to the house was long, and I was getting hungry. When we arrived, I paid for the ride before grabbing my things. My mouth dropped open at the sight of the house. No mansion, it's a freaking mansion. I looked back at the address my boss gave to me. I questioned myself if I was ready to go in.
"There's no turning back now," I said softly before grabbing my bags from the ground. The imposing mansion loomed before me, and I took a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever awaited inside. As I approached the grand entrance, the uncertainty of the upcoming encounter mixed with a sense of anticipation.
The voice said, "Welcome Miss Lisa, thank you for coming here today; you may now enter." as my finger lifted to the gate, preparing to knock. The gate opened all by itself, gently. I silently exclaimed, "Wow," as I entered the mansion slowly. It resembled a home straight out of a novel. It all shouted royalty.
"Now I see why my boss said this man is a private man," I whispered before stopping at the door entrance. The opulence of the surroundings left me momentarily awestruck. Taking a deep breath, I approached the door, uncertain of the challenges that awaited me within the luxurious confines of the mysterious mansion. Little did I know, this encounter would not only test my nursing abilities.
"Welcome Lisa, it's so nice having you here." Lisa heard someone say.
Turning around she saw a woman her age walking down the stairs.
A smile on her lips.
"My name is Evelyn, Ace's sister." The lady said with a warm smile.
I said, "Nice to meet you," since I was at a loss for words.
Evelyn noted Lisa's confused expression and let out a giggle.
"Come on, I'll show you your room, tomorrow you can see my brother," Evelyn replied.
Nodding my head, I picked up my bags and followed her slowly.
My gaze is still scanning the space.
Everything looked very gorgeous and unique.
Lisa followed Evelyn to her room, feeling the home was cozy and inviting. There was a hint of excitement in the air, from the anticipation of meeting Ace.
Evelyn led Lisa through a hallway adorned with family photos and cozy decorations.
As they reached the room, Evelyn opened the door, revealing a comfortable space with soft colors and a view of the garden. "I hope you find it cozy. Make yourself at home," Evelyn said.
A smile on my lips. Maybe this won't be bad after all, maybe things will go well. I thought, having hope about what would happen next. After unpacking, I walked toward my new bathroom.
Everything looked so nice and beautiful.
After looking around, I walked out to my bedroom.
A sigh left my lips before looking up at the clock.
It was still early and I was incredibly hungry.
I peered at the door, pondering if it was alright for me to walk downstairs.
After some pondering, I stepped toward my door and then turned the doorknob cautiously.
After that was over, I turned to face the long corridor, unsure of where to go. Without giving it much thought, I moved to the left side of the hall and pressed my ear down to listen for any sounds.
It felt like I was the only person in the mansion. It was so quiet.
after what seemed like hours of walking.
I was a door, it was open slightly
Intrigued, I approached the slightly open door, curiosity getting the better of me. Slowly pushing it open, I found a man on a bed, the hospital machine beeping slowly.
His chest rose up and down slowly.
"I see you found Ace." I heard a voice say behind me, making me squeal.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to move around like this, I got hungry and was looking for you, I didn't mean to come here," I said quietly looking at the ground.
Evelyn shook her head and chuckled softly. "It's all good love, now let's go meet my brother, yes?" she asked as she entered the room. I gave her a nod and trailed behind her.
