Aiden’s P.O.V.
“AIDEN!” I heard my mother screaming my name in panic as she tried to make her way to me. Rogues are attacking, one after another, never stopping. Why are they here, why are they attacking her? I have to get to her I have to save her. I was on the other side of the garden when I saw a rogue lunging for her throat. I shift into my wolf and charge after him. I grab him with ease and rip his throat open and shake as hard as I can to detach his head from the rest of him. Kade seems satisfied that he is dead because I move onto the next rogue flanking me from behind. He grabs ahold of my ankle and bites hard, Kade lets out a high pitched yelp. I shake free, and before the rogue has time to plan his next move, I tackle him to the ground and rip out his throat. I hear my mother's howling scream as a rogue clamps onto her hind leg.
“Kade, we have to get to her, NOW!” I screamed in our minds. All thoughts consumed of her. She is backed into a corner bleeding from her leg. She mind links me, “Run my sweet boy. Run as fast as you can, I will hold them off until you are out of sight. Get to your sister and go to the pack house. You will be safest there. Tell your father I love him.” She pleads with me as a tear runs down her face. She locks eyes with me for just a second before nodding towards the path behind me. She stands tall, readying herself for attack. She braces herself as one of the rogues leans in to end his kill.
With the sight set infront of me,all I can hear is my heart beat and the taste of blood in my mouth. I chose to ignore my mother's pleas to get me to safety. We will kill every single one of them for hurting my family and attacking my pack. I feel my alpha blood run through my veins, I stand tall and launch myself in front of my mother. I collide with the rogue just in time to redirect his attack. The other rogue is circling us, trying to plan the perfect attack. The first rogue thinks I'm distracted because my head is turned looking at his partner. I can feel his patience running thin. The first one tried for my throat. I turn my head just in time to tear into his, blood pouring from his opened wound, he yelps and backs off, stumbling over himself. It won’t be long before he bleeds out. We might heal fast, but not that fast. Kad's teeth are large and sharp. We made sure the bite was fatal. I turned to see my mother's wound still bleeding, but slowing. Distracted this time, the wolf plows into me. Knocking me away from my mother, he quickly turned towards her and tried to go for her throat. I yanked at his hind leg just in time to prevent him from getting to her. She takes this opportunity to run full speed at him and knocks him as close as she can to me. She falls to the ground injured from before. Panic rushes through me, I howl as loudly as I can. Kade sees the rogue still pursuing his injured prey. I leap up and tackle him to the ground. We roll down a hill and when we stop, I am on top. I opened my mouth as wide as I could and ended his life.
I woke up sweating and shaking. I’m frantic as I sit up startled from my nightmare. It’s always the same two dreams, the one of my mother or the one with my sister. Sweat is soaking through my shirt and my pillows were drenched like they just came out of the shower and decided to lay down before drying off. I peel off my shirt and head for the shower. That one haunts me the most because they, almost for a second time, took someone I love right in front of me.
“We were victorious.” Kade ravishes in my mind.
“We almost lost her, if we didn’t-“ I was interrupted by kade saying, “We will never let those mutts touch what is ours to protect. We did well in doing just that. You need to give us more credit. We killed 4 rogues without even thinking about it and saved our pack and Luna. I say that is a good day.” He states.
He’s not wrong, we did great that day, but it’s the fact that they even got through enough to cause harm to her and everyone else in their way. It was strange, like they were only going after her, but why? In the shower, I cant help but replaying that awful day over and over again.
After the attack, we rushed her to the pack hospital, they were able to not only save her leg, but her life as well. She would recover completely. After her stay in the hospital, I earned my title as Alpha. One of the first ever Alphas to not have found a destined/chosen mate first. It is said that every Alpha must have a destined or chosen mate to take the title as alpha. But, because of my bravery and loyalty I have shown the pack elders, I was granted my title at the age of 19. My father, Roman, the former alpha, and my mother, Iris, the former Luna of our pack, held a huge congratulatory ceremony for me. Packs from all over the realm came to celebrate my victory in becoming Alpha. I have been alpha of Blu Peral Pack for a little over awhile now, with no fatalities and no surprise rogue attacks. The Elders are still on my case about my destined mate though. I didn’t want to choose a mate; I wanted the one fated for me and only me.
“No chosen mate will ever be as sweet and satisfying as our destined mate will be.” Kade says as I replay the events of my nightmare and the aftermath of what happened. He is right, nothing could be better than her. This is why I go to the mating ceremony every couple of months. I let Kade out in hopes I would find her. I haven’t yet, but I am still young and hopeful.
The mating ceremony happens every full moon. All the packs from our realm meet at a specific area, under the full moon. If your mate is there, and of age, you will be able to feel them as soon as we shift. With our wolves out, we will without a doubt know they are our mates. It’s harder if we are in human form. There will be a pull, of course, but nothing like the conformality of knowing for sure, when we are shifted under the full moon. The ceremony is not mandatory for packs to join in. So, if you go, you risk not meeting your other half because they might not be there. That doesn’t stop most of us from going. However, people like the idea of maybe finding your soulmate.
I finish washing my body and step out of the shower. I grab a towel and start walking to my closet when my little sis decides knocking isnt for her and walk right in.
“Amelia, what the hell? Get out!” I shouted, shocked she's standing there with her friend.
Her friend is looking me up and down. I'm completely naked with a towel plastered to my front covering my c**k from her eager eyes.
“Don’t mind us, we are just looking for, ah yes there it is.” She picks up a notebook labeled ‘Things to make him want you’. I gag a little and she looks up.
“Oooh…. I didn’t notice how indecent you are, come on Char, my big brother needs to be away from prying eyes right now.” She laughs as she starts towards the door. Her friend laughs and says, “I don’t mind the view." Looking at me still, she licks her lips and turns to leave.
“We might be waiting for our mate and all, but we could totally take that for a ride. You know practice makes perfect. We don’t want to be unexperienced and all.” Kade laughs in my head. This wolf, I swear, will be the death of me.
“Kade, you know we can’t mess around with our pack members. We don’t need that kind of messy drama right now. Plus, we have a meeting with that girl from Reach high. I need to be 100% focused.”
After I get dressed, I made my way down the stairs to the dining hall, when Travis stopped me.
“Morning Alpha, you’re up early.” He looks at me with a knowing look. I ignore his look because we both know why I am awake. It’s the anniversary of the rogue attacks. It always gets to me around this time of year.
“Travis, have you heard from the warriors on the northern boarder? Anything suspicious there I need to check before we head out?” Travis is Amelia’s destined mate. He was a rogue orphan we brought in. His parents were killed in a attack on another pack. Made him rogue, then we found him and took him in when he was 4. He has worked hard to gain rank in our pack. When I became Alpha, it was a decision I didn't have to think about, I made him my Beta. He is not only one of the best warriors I have ever come across, but also a wonder to the humans in our contracting company. He spent a lot of time in their realm growing up, learning all he could about how our pack operates in both realms. He is an asset we are lucky to have. I’m glad I chose him as my Beta.
We go into the dining hall where my family sit at the front end of the tables. I take my seat at the head of our large table. To the right of me is an empty seat, where my mate would sit, then Danika, my gamma’s mate, my sister Amelia, my mother, and then my father at the foot of the table. To the left is where my gamma, Luke, sits, then Travis, and lastly my dad’s beta Kye. Kye lost his mate a few years back during a random rogue attack. After I became alpha, the old beta normally goes and can live a normal life with his mate and children if they have them. With Kye and Lilly never having pups, he was alone, so I made it so, he would always be welcomed at our table and in our pack house. He still resides in his room here.
“Charlene really wants a piece of you.” Amelia says, as she was eyeing her friend across the room.
“Mel, I’m not dating your friend, nor am I hooking up with her. For one, she’s too young, only being 18, and secondly, I’m the alpha of this pack. I will not confuse her by thinking she has some weird claim over me when I find my destined.” I locked eyes with her. She knows I meant business whenever I mention my destined. It has been at the forefront of my mind this past year.
With the Elders being on my case about accepting a chosen mate, she doesn’t say anything else. I know she just thinks its funny, but she has her mate. She doesn’t understand the pressure it is to be the only Alpha in history to be given the title with no Luna. My pack needs a Luna. I know this. I also think waiting for my destined would not only increase our pack bond but strengthen it as well.
“Alpha, could I speak with you for a minute?” Luke asks. I really hate when he calls me that. We grew up together. My mother and his mother used to put us in a playpin in our diapers. Calling me Alpha seems so unnatural for us. He’s my brother in my eyes, “Sure, excuse us everyone.” I get up and made my way to the downstairs office.
“Luke, you don’t have to call me alpha. I know it’s respectful, but I'm telling you, as your alpha, I do not care to be called just Aiden.” I looked at him. He is in full business mode, so I know im not getting through to him.
“Okay, Gamma, what seems to be the problem?” I sat behind my desk and motioned for him to sit infront of me.
“Alpha, I know you were expecting me to make it to the meeting with you and Travis today. I was hoping this once you would mind going without me? I know this is important, I understand the responsibilities as your Gamma, but Danika’s doctor appointment is today. We tried to reschedule, but this is the only one available for the next month.” He looked up at me with a worried look.
“At least one of us is getting some on the regular.” Kade mocks
“Do you ever think of anything else?” I say annoyed.
“Not until we at least get something to take my mind off it. Like Mel's friend, what's her name again? Oh it doesn’t even matter, let's just hit it and quit it” He laughs because he knows I will never go for it.
“Quit worrying, I'm just kidding. Don’t hit it where you sit it.” He laughs at his own jokes.
“Alpha?” Luke asks.
“Luke, this is a very exciting time for you and Danika. If you need to miss this one to go be with your mate, that is ok. I know you have been trying for awhile to bring a pup into the world. Go see if you’ve made us a future Gamma.” I told him. Relief flows through him. “Thanks, Aiden. I will let you know how it goes.” He turns to walk away then stops, “Hey Aiden?”
“Yeah?”
“You’ll have this too one day soon. Don’t give up hope.” He smiles and walks away. I hope, sooner rather than later, I sigh in thought.
