Chapter 2

EFRICK'S POV As I sat, anticipation curling around my nerves like a restless wind, I waited for my name to be called. My best friend sat beside me, his energy subdued, as if bracing himself for something unexpected. The room buzzed with idle chatter, but my focus wavered—until the door groaned open. And then... she walked in. Wow. It was as if the air itself hesitated, caught in the gravity of her presence. My breath hitched, stolen by the sheer brilliance of her existence. She was more than beautiful—she was otherworldly, a vision sculpted from the finest dreams. Every movement, every delicate step, seemed orchestrated by some unseen force, designed to captivate. My mind scrambled to make sense of her, to rationalize how someone so effortlessly breathtaking could be real. Was she an angel? Had she misplaced her wings? Before I could tumble any further into my own thoughts, Ma’am Sabito greeted her and led her to the front. Their voices wove through the air, but the words held no meaning for me. I wasn’t listening. I couldn’t. My attention was utterly consumed, my eyes tracing every perfect detail as if memorizing her was the only thing that mattered. A silent prayer echoed in my mind. Ma’am, please, let me sit next to her. I’d carry her chair if I had to. Hell, I’d carry her if I had to. Unlike my best friend, I knew how to keep my cool when a beautiful girl entered the room. I had a reputation to uphold—fame had trained me well. But him? He was still navigating the wreckage of what had happened with Valerie, cautious to the point of retreat. I understood. He was afraid of falling again, of risking another heartbreak. And yet, when she turned that radiant smile toward him, he shut down. Averted his gaze. Put on that all-too-familiar I’m-too-cool-for-you front. But then… she looked at me. That smile—warm, luminous, like a whispered secret meant only for me. And in that instant, something inside me shifted. I couldn’t help but smile back, letting my signature killer grin do the talking. Her smile struck deeper than I expected, an unspoken challenge, a silent promise. And for the first time in a long while, I felt the spark of something dangerous. Something thrilling. Something undeniably real. Just as I was about to fully bask in the moment, reveling in the quiet thrill of her smile, my eyes drifted—only to land on Godric. And that’s when I noticed it. Something was off about him today. Godric, my ever-unshaken, effortlessly cool best friend, was acting… different. Normally, a new girl—no matter how stunning, no matter how many heads she turned—wouldn’t earn more than a passing glance from him. He was untouchable, immune to the charms that had lesser men tripping over themselves. But now? Now, he was staring. Not just a casual glance. Not even his usual, unreadable once-over. No—his eyes were glued to her, locked onto her every movement as if she were the only person in the room. I frowned, barely suppressing my disbelief. Godric? Fixated on someone? That was a first. I reached for my phone and shot him a text, my fingers moving instinctively. MESSAGE TO: GODRIC Man, you’re so obvious! You like her, don’t you? Come on, own up to it! Hahaha. Across the room, I saw him check his phone. His jaw tightened slightly, but he didn’t look at me. Didn’t even react. That’s when I knew—whatever this was, it was serious. MESSAGE FROM: GODRIC Shut up! No way! I was just thinking about Alyssa shouting earlier. You should’ve seen your face, it was priceless! LOL, stop it. I have a reputation to maintain. Seriously?! I laughed at his quick excuse. Classic Godric, always finding a way out of things. But this time, I wasn’t letting it slide. MESSAGE TO: GODRIC Hahaha! You’re a joke, man. It’s so obvious. I’m actually glad you like Miss Beautiful. You can have her, bro. I’m out! Hahaha. I knew he would bite. What was he going to say next? MESSAGE FROM: GODRIC Shut up! What if Alyssa finds out? What do you think she’ll do? Forget it, I’m taking this one. No strings attached, unlike you. Don’t reply. Seriously. I couldn’t help but laugh at his response. Busted! But it was more than that—it was clear now that Godric had some serious feelings for her. I had to stifle my laughter, not wanting to make a scene, but then... I saw her, Aphrodite, glancing over at us, noticing the exchange. Her eyes caught mine, and I instantly froze. I tried not to let the moment break, but the energy in the room shifted. MESSAGE TO: GODRIC LOL, I knew it! This is historic. First time I caught you, bro! But fine, I’ll admit it—I like Miss Beautiful too. You win this one. Hahaha. Then came his reply, and this time, he wasn’t holding back. MESSAGE FROM: GODRIC You’re unbelievable! Did you have to rub it in? And by the way, she’s not just ‘Miss Beautiful’ anymore. She’s Miss Temptation now. Good luck competing with me, monkey! Don’t reply, I’m serious. We don’t want to get caught by Ma’am, or worse, by Miss Temptation herself. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "Ms. Temptation?" I repeated his text with a grin, finding it hilarious. He was actually getting possessive over her. This was new. But it was still a game. No one had claimed her yet. I tried not to show my amusement too much, but when I turned to look at Godric, I saw something I didn’t expect. He was locked in a stare with Aphrodite. Oh no, I thought, he’s falling for her. I leaned back in my chair, watching them, but before I could continue the observation, Ma’am Sabito cleared her throat. The entire room paused, and my attention snapped back to reality. A burst of laughter rang out as Ma’am grinned, breaking the moment, and said, "I see you two, Mr. Beaurlington and Ms. Berqez, getting to know each other. Would you care to join us in the class?" The class erupted in laughter. Godric and I exchanged glances, both surprised. He couldn’t help but laugh, and so did I. This was too perfect. Even Ma’am couldn’t help but join in, her giggles contagious. I watched as Aphrodite took her seat, and I couldn’t help but notice how red her cheeks were. The smile on her face was barely hidden, and it was clear she was flustered. But the real surprise? Ma’am was giggling too. Was she... blushing? It was a strange moment, but one that I knew I’d remember. Even Ma’am seemed younger, lighter, in that moment of teasing. I could only chuckle and think, Today’s going to be interesting.
