Chapter 5 part 2

1020 Words
APHRODITE'S POV The weight of the day pressed heavily on my shoulders as I stepped out of the university gates. The setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and lavender, but even the beautiful scenery couldn't lighten my mood. Today had been exhausting, and all I wanted was to get home, sink into my bed, and forget about the world for a while. The idea of waiting for Tito James made me groan internally. I could already picture him bringing up Godric again, prying into my thoughts and teasing me like he always did. And I just wasn’t in the mood. So, instead of enduring the long wait, I hailed a taxi right in front of our villa, opting to walk the rest of the way. The cool evening breeze brushed against my skin, bringing with it the comforting scents of home—the faint aroma of flowers from the neighbor’s garden, the familiar scent of freshly baked bread from a distant bakery. It was oddly soothing, a reminder that despite the chaos in my mind, some things remained constant. As I reached our front gate, I rang the doorbell, shifting my bag to my other shoulder. Within seconds, the gate creaked open, revealing Yaya Bernadina’s warm and welcoming smile. "Good afternoon, Yaya!" I greeted, forcing a bit of cheerfulness into my voice. "Ah, hija, where’s Tito? Doesn’t he know you’re home already?" she asked, a hint of concern laced in her words. "Don’t worry, Yaya, I texted Tito James to let him know I was coming home early," I reassured her, hoping she wouldn’t press further. Her face softened. "Oh, that’s good. Well, if you’re hungry, I’ve prepared some snacks for you. The juice is in the fridge." "Thanks, Yaya! My stomach’s already grumbling. I’m wiped out from that meeting," I admitted with a grateful smile. Heading upstairs, I changed into more comfortable clothes before making my way back down for a quick snack. Settling onto the couch, I flipped on the television, letting the soothing presence of my favorite idol, Ms. Liafail, distract me from the day’s events. Just as I was beginning to relax, the front door opened, and in walked Tito James, right on time for dinner. He freshened up quickly before joining me at the table, the clinking of silverware filling the silence between us. But it didn’t take long before I felt his gaze lingering on me, and my instincts screamed at me to brace myself. Here it comes. The moment I had been dreading. Tito leaned back slightly, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "You know, Mione, if you and Godric were to get together, I wouldn’t mind. In fact, I’d be happy for you. He’s a good kid." I nearly choked on my food. Of course. Of course, he’d bring this up now, just when I was starting to enjoy my meal. I swallowed, composing myself, and shot him an exasperated look. "Tsk, Tito, please. I’m not even thinking about those things right now," I lied, attempting to sound nonchalant. He smirked, clearly not convinced. "Well, I’m just saying..." He let his words trail off, his grin widening as if waiting for me to c***k. I desperately wished for the earth to open up and swallow me whole. Or maybe for him to choke on his food—just enough to change the topic, not actually hurt him. After dinner, I wasted no time escaping. "I have to finish some readings, Tito. Goodnight!" I announced hastily, practically sprinting to my room before he could push further. Once inside, I collapsed onto my bed, exhaling in relief. Then, suddenly, my eyes widened. "Wait a minute... Godric said he might text me tonight!" I muttered, bolting upright. Heart pounding, I snatched my bag and rummaged through it for my phone, praying for a notification from him. My fingers trembled slightly as I unlocked the screen. But my excitement fizzled the moment I saw my inbox. No message from Godric. Instead, there was one from an unknown number. MESSAGE FROM: UNKNOWN "Hi! I’m Megame Colonel, the PIO of our PICE organization. Please save my number. Thank you." I frowned slightly, curiosity replacing disappointment. Not exactly the text I was hoping for, but still… interesting. I saved the number and was about to put my phone down when another message popped up. MESSAGE FROM: MEGAME "Hi again! You’re Aphrodite, right? The transferee and niece of Dean James? :D" A small smile tugged at my lips. This girl wasted no time. MESSAGE TO: MEGAME "Ah, yes, hehe… How did you know I’m Dean’s niece? :D" Her response was immediate. MESSAGE FROM: MEGAME "Hmn... I overheard Ma’am Sabito earlier. We’re classmates in all our subjects, so we’re in the same section as Efrick and Godric. Hehe. :D" My heart skipped a beat. Same section as Godric? My mind raced with the possibilities. This could be… interesting. MESSAGE TO: MEGAME "Wow, we’re in the same class? Hehe, I didn’t even notice you earlier... Can we be friends, if that’s okay? :D" I wasn’t expecting much, but her enthusiasm was contagious. MESSAGE FROM: MEGAME "Of course! We can totally be friends, and I’m sure we’ll get along really well. Hehe. :D" I grinned at my phone. A new friend. This night wasn’t turning out so bad after all. We continued chatting for a while, laughter bubbling from my lips as our conversation flowed effortlessly. I had completely forgotten about my earlier disappointment. A glance at the clock made me wince. It was getting late, and I had early classes tomorrow. MESSAGE TO: MEGAME "Hehe, Megame, it’s getting late and we have class early tomorrow. Can we continue our chat tomorrow? Hehe." She responded almost instantly. MESSAGE FROM: MEGAME "Ah, yeah, sure… I’m getting sleepy too. Let’s talk tomorrow. Good night! :D" MESSAGE TO: MEGAME "Okay! Hehe. Good night... We’ll continue tomorrow… :D" Setting my phone aside, I nestled into my pillows, a satisfied sigh escaping me. Sure, it wasn’t Godric, but a new friend was still a win. Tonight had turned out far better than I expected. Hehehe.
