-Eri Sunville- Was I dreaming or did Don just ask me to marry him? First, he had just barged in when I was trying to fix my makeup and then he asked me to marry him. I tried to study his expression to figure out if he was joking, but he looked as serious as ever. His face was set in a stern mask, his eyes were narrowed and intense. Oh God, he was serious. Was this guy mad? “What?” My brows furrowed, forming wrinkles in between my brows. He started towards me, causing my feet to involuntarily draw backwards, but that didn't stop him from coming closer. “What are you doing?” I asked, my blood literally boiling. What on earth was happening. I felt my back hit the wall and knew there was no way to go, but that didn't stop him from moving closer. He pinned me to the wall, holding my gaze in such a way that sent my body shivering. The strong scent of his cologne danced around my nose without care, choking on my breathing. “Listen,” he started, his minty breath hitting my face, “I know I shouldn't be saying this, especially not at the last minute but I need you to get married to me.” “Are you crazy?” It might not be the right thing to say to one's boss, and I might probably regret it later, but who the heck does he think he is telling me to just get married like that. “What do you think I am, stupid?” “I'll pay it.” He said eagerly. “Huh?” “Suzy's surgery, I'll pay for it.” Woah. That had entered my soul. Would I really want to spend my entire life with a guy just for money? I can easily get the money if I keep on working. “I won't get married for $55000.” I hated myself for sounding so weak, and even hated it more when it was evident he knew he was getting to me. “I'll give you $100000.” What?! I have never seen such money since I was born. That was enough to take care of me for my entire life time. But again, was I going to sell myself for such huge and mouth-watering amount of money. Was I really going to sell myself for $100000? How on earth would I even tell Suzy and Rose that I sold myself for $100000? They'd think I'm the most stupid person on earth. “I don't want to spend the rest of my life with you for—” “Who said you'll be spending the rest of you life with me?” His voice came out hoarse, spending shivers down my spine. “Huh?” “I need to get married to you because June ran away.” Oh so that's what this was all about. She was smart enough to run away and now I'm the one who has to cover up her mistake. He moved backwards, allowing clean air flow into my lungs. “June has been the talk of every media for almost a year now, if we don't show any female, that'll ruin the company's image.” He sounded really concerned. Hmm, so he could be this in need, smooth. He looked like he needed my help. “It'll just be for two years, till the media die down, then we'll get a divorce.” Two years was a long time. I don't think I can make this decision without asking Suzy and Rose. They'd be good friends and tell me the right thing to do. I'm sure if I were to get married for $100000, they'd never forgive me for being so stupid. “I don't know if this is right, I'll have to ask my friends, I'm sure they'll advise me not to and I don't want you to pester me any more, please you must accept my no.” Was I really talking to my boss in this manner? I just hope he won't take it to heart and fire me after he gets embarrassed in public. He didn't reply, so I quickly ran to grab my phone that I'd dropped on the table in front of the mirror. With shaky hands, I did a group video call with them both. “What's popping? How's the wedding going?” Rose spoke first. I did a quick glance at Don whose back was turned to me. “Listen, I have to telling you something quickly,” “Is everything okay?” Suzy asked, sounding weak. I would have asked her what's wrong if I didn't have to speak quickly. “No, Don's—I mean—Mr Jones' fiancee ran away from the wedding.” “Oh my.” They both gasped in unison “And now he's asked me to get married to him for $100000.” Another gasp from them convinced me that they'd not agree with that. Why on earth would I get married for $100000. “And what did you say?” Rose asked. “No of course.” “Are you stupid?” Rose asked at the same time Suzy said. “Are you crazy?” “What?” What was happening? I heard Don chuckle, then turned to him, just to notice him face me. I quickly returned my gaze to the phone. “Why on earth would you do that you stupid girl? $100000! Have you ever seen such money in your life.” Rose's annoyed voice just made things even more confusing. Again, what was happening? “Listen, I didn't want to tell you this before because I didn't want to stress you out but I think my condition is worsening. I've been feeling serious abdominal pain, I've also been feeling really tired these days,” Suzy sounded exactly how she said she felt. “Also my urine has changed color, it's darkened. And I've been vomiting after meals. I think the operation needs to start soon.” That was not good, she needed the surgery. Should I just get married? “The marriage is for two years.” “So it's not forever? So what's your problem?” Rose scoffed. “You must not lose this opportunity.” “Please reconsider it.” Suzy had said in a very weak tone. She looked even worse than she sounded. “How old is she?” Don asked after I hung up. I turned to him. “She's 21.” There was silence for a while, as the unspoken questions laid in the room. I must not lose Suzy. No. Never. She needed surgery, and if there was only one way to do so, then that was the only thing I'd do. “Okay then, let's get married.”
