-Don Jones- I dropped my laptop in my back, checking the time on the clock on my desk. It was 9 p.m already. I was sure Miss Dina would be so frustrated working as the receptionist knowing she can't close till I leave the office. Standing up with my bag in hand, I was about leaving when the continues vibrations coming from the pocket of my trouser began. When I removed my phone to check who was calling, I was not surprised to see my mom's name flashing on the screen. She called very often. Answering the call, I started towards the door. "Yes mom." "Are you done with working?" The sweet and nice tone she always possessed spoke in my ears. "Hmm, why?" I got out of my office, locking it, before heading to the elevator. After pressing the button, my eyes lazily watched the door separate before entering it, pushing the first floor button, with the elevator moving once the doors closed. "Could you help me pick Violin on your way? She went on a date to some bar called Holm's or something and was ditched by the guy so she needs someone to pick her up." "Why can't you send a driver or something?" "I would but I realized that the place she's in is not a safe place for a girl her age and I don't want her staying there much longer," her tone was laced with concern, "if I were to send a driver, they'd have to first leave the house, and it'll take time till they get there. But if you go now, you'll take less time to get there." "I don't understand why the moron is going out with useless guys and I'm the one who has to suffer for it." "Don't talk about your cousin like that. Just pick her up." "Whatever." I hung up. The elevator dinged before the doors separated. When I strolled out of it to the reception area, the tired eyes Miss Dina had on lit up at my sight, probably because she was relieved to see me check out. I wrote my name and the time, walking out and totally ignoring her "good night sir." A bodyguard of mine opened the passenger seat of my car which I entered watching him close it. The driver was ready to drive. What on earth was Violin's problem. Had mom seriously forgotten that I didn't have the type of relationship with her that we'd sit in the same car, without awkwardly following that action. I wound down the window, signaling for the bodyguard to move closer so I could tell him something which he complied to. "Tell the driver of my other car to follow this car, okay?" "Yes sir." My gaze shifted to the driver. "I'm heading to Holm's bar." "Okay sir," with that, he started the car, zooming off. At least, at this rate I would still be going to pick her up, but would not have to sit in the same car with her. That would be so suffocating. As soon as we were close to the bar, I recognized a familiar face. It didn't snap in my brain that it was Miss Eri, till the car drew nearer. My gosh, what on earth happened to her. She looked so wasted, she couldn't walk properly and was staggering with every step. Her hair was packed in a rough ponytail. I decided ignoring her would be best, but my ears caught her scream. "Motherfucking bitch." At first I wondered what she was so mad at to be this wasted until she added, "who the hell do you think you are to insult me that way Don!" Don? Why was she calling me by my name? Well, I shouldn't be mad at her since she's not at work. Actually, I shouldn't care if anyone insults me behind my back, I'd gotten a lot of that in my lifetime. I was about to just ignore her when I noticed a man walking behind her with a lustful smirk on his face. What on earth was this girl doing to herself at this time of the day. A groan escaped me, knowing I would be stupid to leave her that way "Stop the car." I ordered the driver who immediately complied, coming to a halt. When the guy reached her, wrapping his arms around her waist, my blood shot up in irritation. Was he crazy or what? That annoyance led to me getting out of the car, heading towards him, which was when I caught her weak whispered, "let me go, please." But instead of the useless jerk to let her go, his reply came out as, "come on baby, let's go." That had irritated him even further. I hated men who used women at their weakest times, when they knew the female can't do anything. "She said to leave her alone." My tone obviously surprised them both to turn to me. Eri looked equally confused and surprised. I took intimidating strides towards, grabbing her from the man. Certain she was too drunk and might fall, I held her by the waist. The fact that she rested her head so casually on my chest had a strange effect on my body. I had no idea why. "Who the f**k are you?" The man asked. "You better leave now before I get you arrested for s****l harassment." My threatening tone made him widen his eyes in surprise. Knowing what I could do, he ran out of sight, but I made a mental not to get him arrested. No use having such a thing in the society. But my first concern at the moment was Eri, who annoyed me for being so careless as I was very busy at the moment. "What have you done to yourself?" My stern tone didn't seem to have an effect on her drunk self, because she just snuggled deeper to my chest. "Don? What are you doing here?" Why was she calling me so casually? I would have gotten angry but decided to just blame it on the alcohol. "Come on, let's go." Effortlessly, I led her to my car, closing it once we were both in. It was only then that I recalled Violin. "Tell the other driver to drop Violin home." I ordered the driver who quickly picked his phone up. "Why are you so mean to me Don?" She asked, reeking of alcohol and only frustrating me further. "Where do you live?" I asked. "Why are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer on a daily basis?" I wasn't sure what she meant by that but chose to ignore. "How on earth can you have a trillion dollar? What! While I'm here looking for $55000, you're swimming in trillions." She continued, not seeming to care who she was talking to. Was she talking about the company turning to s trillion dollar own? Why would she care about that?. Her phone started ringing from the purse I didn't realize she was holding. So, not pushing her off my chest (though j wasn't sure why I didn't want to), I retrieved the phone, checking who the caller was. Apparently, it was someone named Suzy. "Why aren't you home yet?" Her worried tone asked as soon as I answered the call. It seemed like they lived together so maybe this girl could tell me where to take Eri. "Where does she live?" My voice was immediately followed by silence, like the Suzy person was trying to check if she called the right number. "Who are you?" There was now confusion, and slight alertness in her tone. "I met her wasted at a bar, just tell me where she lives so I could drop her home." I had no time for explanation. "Oh," she said where she lived so I told the driver to drive us there after hanging up. "Why do you hate me?" Apparently, Eri wasn't ready to sleep yet which would have been a better option as she smelled terrible. Why would she think I'd waste my time hating somebody? I was too busy to hate. "I mean, I have always tried to do things to not get a negative comment but I never get a positive one. Will it hurt to say thank you or please once in a while. You overwork people and yet never appreciate their work." Why was she listing all my bad? That was discomforting. "You are this handsome, but so mean." And I hated how her words were getting to me. That rarely happened. "Think about how better life will be if everyone was wealthy," her drunk brain changed the topic. "Imagine adding the money of every body in the world and dividing it equally," she smiled and although drunk, her smile was still as pretty as the one she did in the office that made my heart flutter, "everyone will be wealthy." With that, she fell asleep.
