The grey city was narrower tonight. The buildings pressed closer together, their walls almost touching, leaving only a thin corridor of pavement. The sky was barely visible above. Sari walked slowly. Her shoulders brushed the walls. He was ahead of her, walking the same narrow corridor, his back to her. She followed. The corridor curved. The walls fell away. They emerged into a small courtyard. He turned. She stopped. They stood facing each other, the distance between them small. He moved first. Not toward her—to the edge of the courtyard. He walked to the wall and stopped, his hand resting on the stone. She walked toward him. When she reached his side, she didn't stop. She kept walking, past him, into the corridor beyond. He followed.
