CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2 – Bound by Peace The silence that followed was louder than the war itself. No one moved. The battlefield, once filled with the sounds of clashing swords and angry cries, had become completely still. The Vampire King slowly lowered his sword. Across from him, the Werewolf King did the same. For the first time in three hundred years, they stood face to face without trying to kill each other. The Moon Goddess looked over the valley one last time. Her eyes rested on the little vampire girl and the young werewolf boy who were still holding hands. They were frightened, covered in dirt and surrounded by loss, yet they had done what thousands of warriors could not. They had chosen kindness. "Remember them," the Moon Goddess said. "The future of this world does not belong to those who seek revenge. It belongs to those who choose peace." The Vampire King finally found his voice. "What if we refuse your curse?" The Moon Goddess looked at him calmly. "You may refuse my words, but you cannot escape them." The Werewolf King stepped forward. "How are we supposed to trust each other after everything we've done?" "You are not being asked to trust each other," she replied. "You are being given the chance to learn." The kings looked at one another, but neither had an answer. The Moon Goddess raised her hand one last time. A silver mark appeared on the wrist of every vampire and every werewolf. It glowed for only a few seconds before fading beneath their skin. "As long as the moon shines above this world, my curse will remain. If one race tries to destroy the other, both races will suffer. Remember that every choice you make from this day onward will no longer affect only your own people." The silver light slowly disappeared. "So let this war be the last." With those final words, the Moon Goddess vanished. No one ever saw her again. The journey home was unlike any before it. There were no victory songs. No celebrations. No cheering soldiers. Both armies carried their wounded, buried their dead and returned to kingdoms that no longer felt the same. For a while, everyone believed the curse was nothing more than a warning. They were wrong. Only three months later, a group of young vampires attacked a small werewolf village near the border. Before sunrise, a strange sickness spread through the vampire kingdom. Warriors who had never fallen ill could barely stand. Their strength vanished overnight. The attack stopped immediately. A few weeks later, a group of werewolves burned a vampire watchtower in revenge. The next full moon, every werewolf in the western kingdom felt unbearable pain. Even the strongest Alphas were forced to remain indoors until the moon set. There was no doubt anymore. The Moon Goddess had spoken the truth. The curse punished both races equally. As the years passed, the fighting slowly came to an end. Hatred remained, but open war became impossible. Every ruler understood the same painful truth. If one kingdom suffered, the other would suffer too. Still, peace was difficult. Markets refused to trade with one another. Families crossed the street rather than walk past the opposite race. Children grew up hearing the same old stories of betrayal and loss. The war had ended, but the anger had survived. Ten years after the curse was cast, the rulers of both kingdoms gathered for the first time since the battle. The meeting was held on the very land where the war had ended. It was quiet now. Green grass had replaced the ashes, and flowers covered the valley where thousands had once fallen. The meeting lasted for days. Some wanted stronger borders. Others wanted less contact between the races. Nothing they suggested solved the real problem. On the seventh day, an elderly vampire scholar stood from his seat. "We are trying to stop another war," he said, "but we are teaching our children the same hatred that started the last one." The room fell silent. An old Alpha slowly nodded. "Our children have inherited our anger without knowing our mistakes." No one argued with him. For the first time in many years, both races agreed on something. If the next generation continued living apart, history would repeat itself. They needed a new beginning. They needed a place where future leaders would grow up together before taking their place on the throne or leading a pack. So they chose the land between both kingdoms. It belonged to neither side. It would belong to both. Builders, architects and craftsmen worked together for nearly five years. Vampire designers planned grand libraries, classrooms and halls. Werewolf builders raised strong walls, training arenas and watchtowers. Every stone placed in the ground was a promise that the next generation would be given a chance their parents never had. When the academy was finally complete, rulers from every noble family gathered beneath its gates. The building stood proudly beneath the moon, its tall towers shining in silver light. It was the most beautiful place either race had ever built. Then the moon grew brighter. A soft breeze swept through the crowd. Without warning, the Moon Goddess appeared once more. Everyone bowed. She looked at the academy before turning to the rulers. "You have chosen to build instead of destroy," she said. "That is the first step." She placed one hand against the academy gates. From beneath her fingers, silver light spread through every wall, every classroom and every stone. "I bless this place with my light." She turned to the kings and queens. "From this day onward, the children of vampires and werewolves shall learn beneath one roof. They will study together. They will train together. They will face victory and failure together." Her expression became serious. "But remember this." "The academy can bring them together." "It cannot choose their hearts." "If you continue teaching hatred in your homes, no school will ever be enough." She looked toward the moon. "The future of both races now rests in the hands of your children." With those words, she disappeared. That was the last time anyone saw the Moon Goddess. Years became decades. Decades became centuries. Lunarcrest Academy became the greatest school in the world. Every future Alpha, every vampire heir, every noble child and every gifted warrior passed through its gates. Some left with friends. Some left with enemies. Most left with both. The curse kept the peace alive. But peace was never the same as trust. And on the first morning of a new school year, as students from both kingdoms made their way toward Lunarcrest Academy once again, none of them knew that the promise made beneath the moon centuries ago was about to be tested in a way no one had ever imagined. Chapter 2 – Bound by Peace The war ended that night. Not because the kings agreed. Not because the soldiers were tired. It ended because no one dared challenge the Moon Goddess. The battlefield slowly came back to life. Warriors who had been frozen by her power could move again, but no one reached for a weapon. The pain in their chests remained, reminding them that the curse was real. Every heartbeat felt different, as if an invisible chain had been wrapped around every vampire and every werewolf in the world. The Vampire King looked across the battlefield at the Werewolf King. Three hundred years of hatred stood between them, yet neither man lifted his sword. The Moon Goddess's final words echoed in their minds. "If one race falls... the other shall fall beside it." Without another word, both armies turned around and began the long journey home. No songs were sung. No victory was celebrated. There were no winners. Only survivors. The months that followed were filled with fear. Many believed the curse would disappear with time. Others convinced themselves it had only been a warning. Life slowly returned to normal, and little by little, some warriors forgot the terror they had felt beneath the Moon Goddess's light. Then the curse reminded them. A group of young vampires attacked a small werewolf village near the northern border. The battle lasted less than an hour before the werewolves surrendered. The vampires returned home believing they had won. By sunrise, hundreds of vampires had fallen sick without warning. Strong warriors could barely stand. The elderly struggled to breathe. Even newborn children became weak. No healer could explain it. The attack stopped immediately. A month later, a werewolf pack attacked a vampire trading town to avenge the village that had been destroyed. They burned homes, destroyed supplies and fled before sunrise. The following night, every werewolf who had taken part in the attack collapsed beneath the full moon. Some could not even shift into their wolf forms. The message was clear. The curse judged both races equally. No one tried to test it again. Years passed, but peace remained fragile. The war was over, yet hatred lived on inside the hearts of both races. Parents still warned their children never to trust the other side. Stories of betrayal were passed from one generation to the next. Although the kingdoms no longer fought, they built higher walls, strengthened their borders and avoided one another whenever possible. The Moon Goddess had stopped the war. She had not healed the wounds it left behind. Ten years later, the rulers of both kingdoms gathered once again. Kings, queens, Vampire Lords, Alphas and royal advisers travelled from every corner of the world to attend the meeting. No one smiled as they entered the great hall. Many had once stood on opposite sides of the battlefield. Old enemies now sat around the same table. The meeting lasted for eleven days. Every solution failed. Some wanted stronger borders. Others wanted complete separation. A few even suggested breaking the curse, though none knew how. On the final evening, an old vampire scholar slowly stood from his chair. "We spend every day teaching our children who to hate," he said quietly. "Then we wonder why peace never lasts." The room fell silent. An elderly Alpha rose to his feet. "My grandson has never seen the war," he said. "Yet he already hates vampires because I taught him to. If we continue like this, another war will begin. Maybe not in our lifetime... but in theirs." For the first time since the meeting began, no one argued. The truth was painful. The next generation had inherited a war they had never fought. The rulers spent the rest of the night searching for another answer. As the sun began to rise, the youngest queen in the room spoke. "Then let our children grow up differently from us." Everyone turned to look at her. "If they only hear stories of hate, they will hate. If they only live among their own people, they will fear everyone else. But if they learn together..." She paused before finishing. "...perhaps they will choose a future we never could." The hall became silent once again. This time... Hope replaced anger. One by one, every ruler agreed. They would build a school. Not in the vampire kingdom. Not in the werewolf kingdom. But on the land that separated them both. It would belong to everyone. Construction began the following spring. For the first time in history, vampires and werewolves worked side by side instead of facing each other across a battlefield. Vampire architects designed grand libraries, laboratories and classrooms filled with knowledge. Werewolf builders raised strong walls, training arenas and towering gates that could stand for centuries. It took six years to complete. When the final stone was placed, thousands gathered to witness its opening. The academy stood proudly beneath the full moon. Tall towers reached into the night sky, silver banners danced in the wind and a beautiful fountain stood at the centre of the courtyard. It was unlike anything the world had ever seen. As the gates opened, the moon suddenly glowed brighter. A familiar silver light filled the courtyard. The Moon Goddess had returned. Every person present bowed their head. She looked at the academy with quiet pride before turning to the crowd. "You have chosen to build instead of destroy," she said. "Today, you have taken the first true step toward peace." She walked slowly to the centre of the courtyard and placed her hand upon the stone fountain. Silver light spread through every building, every classroom and every path until the entire academy shimmered beneath the moonlight. "This academy shall be known as Lunarcrest." "It will stand as a home for the children of both races." "They will study together." "They will train together." "They will learn together." Her voice became firmer. "But remember this..." "A school cannot erase hatred." "Only the people within it can." "If you fill your children with anger, they will carry that anger into these halls." "If you teach them kindness, they will carry hope instead." She looked toward the moon one final time. "The future of this world no longer belongs to kings, queens or Alphas." "It belongs to the generation that walks through these gates." With those words, the Moon Goddess smiled softly. Then she vanished beneath the moonlight. No one ever saw her again. The first years of Lunarcrest Academy were far from peaceful. Fights broke out almost every week. Classrooms were damaged, rivalries grew stronger and students refused to sit beside one another. Vampires always chose the east side of the dining hall. Werewolves claimed the west. Even without rules, an invisible line separated them. But year after year, things slowly changed. Not everyone became friends. Many remained rivals. Some remained enemies. Yet others discovered that the stories they had been told did not always match the people standing before them. Centuries passed. Lunarcrest Academy became the greatest school in the world. Every future Alpha, every vampire heir and every noble child dreamed of earning a place within its walls. The academy had fulfilled its purpose. It had preserved peace. Even if trust was still fragile. As another school year approached, the great gates of Lunarcrest Academy opened once again. Students from every noble house and every powerful pack began their journey toward the academy. None of them knew that this year would be remembered for centuries. Because fate had already chosen two students. A vampire. And the future Alpha of the werewolves. Their meeting would either strengthen the peace the Moon Goddess had fought to protect... Or become the beginning of a brand-new war.
