Chapter 12: Reckless Determination

Hope is a great thing to say, a word that’s overused but still has an impact. Hope is the thing that made you hold on to something even if it hurts you. Hope can be poisonous and it can be your savior. Hope gives you determination, while it can also give you devastation. But hope is the only thing that can make you go forward. ‘Even the dimmest light can still shine in the darkness, there is always hope in a hopeless situation’

Damian gulp when he remembered what Isis told him. He looks at Larcade who is also looking at him. ‘Well it is certainly a good plan but I’m not sure if they’re still there.’ Hope is a thing that can help you survive; Hope is also the thing that brings you demise. 

 “I know,” Damian answered, he knew what Larcade is going to say next, that’s why he is still conflicted. Because Larcade is the only one that is powerful enough to defeat the apostles but he already thinking of giving up the power before they can have Damian’s revenge. It’s s**t but no matter what Larcade says Damian will not agree on helping him to let Isis’ power out. “But I won’t take you there.” 

Larcade stared at him, his eyes widening as he follows Damian standing up. Larcade knew that Damian isn’t stupid that’s why he can notice that Damian realized his intention. “If I can take you to them IF they’re still there. It won’t be long for them to be killed.” Damian raised his voice.

 Lucas and Neveah stared at each other, feeling the tension in the air. ‘This two can’t have any serious conversation without snapping at each other.’ Lucas thought sitting on the mattress awkwardly. “No matter how you run, you can’t escape the fate that was written for you a long time ago.”

 Larcade felt his blood boil when he said it. “Don’t be so selfish. Just because you don’t want it, don’t drag others.” 

Larcade has finally snapped, he dashed to him, his stomps were loud, heading to Damian, he grabbed his collar. Lucas and Neveah panicked.

“Easy for you to say, you’re not the guy who had his life planned out without his consent!” Larcade shouted at his face, Lucas, and Neveah quickly get up, wanting to stop the upcoming fight. Damian gripped Larcade’s hands, gritting his teeth. 

“Well, at least I’m not the guy who wanted to run away! Like a coward dog.” Their voices booming in the room, Lucas and Neveah behind them were glancing at each other asking with their eyes what they’re gonna do. Suddenly they were interrupted by a knock on the door. Their heads panned to the door when it swung open, revealing Larcade’s dad, Noah Dewin. ‘Isis son.’ Damian thought when he realized who was the man. 

He had such a good resemblance to Isis and his scent was also similar to her. Damian can’t help but stare at the man. Larcade loses his grip on Damian’s collar and looks down, feeling embarrassed that he was caught by his father. 

“If you’re going to fight please do it in broad daylight, people are trying to sleep here,” Noah said, his voice laced with tiredness. He has clearly awoken up by their shouting. Looking at the four of them he sighed, reading the room. “Fix your problem, when you still have a chance,” Noah said before closing the door.

 All four of them went silent, guilt and embarrassment filled the entire room. Neveah sighed, ‘Guess I have to be an ice breaker again.’ She thought, she opened her mouth to say something but Lucas interrupted her.

 “Do you really have to cause a commotion when you talk to each other?” Lucas who was done by the two of them finally voiced out what he was thinking. Neveah looked at him stunned by his actions. Well, who would’ve thought that he let himself get involved? 

The two of them look down feeling guilty, Larcade grinds his teeth but eventually stopped when Neveah nudged him. “If I’m gonna be honest, I need a little space to breathe because of this tension that you two created, however, I won’t leave, I will stay here and listen to your discussion,” Neveah said sitting don’t to her original place in the mattress. 

“But, please, without fighting.” She said staring at them ready to listen. Lucas who followed her also sitting in his original position. Larcade sighed feeling apologetic, he never had an ounce of thought to confront someone, he never even experienced it. He is usually the type to just sit down and not include himself in some situation that’s problematic. But since the topic is about his life, he can’t control himself to snap at Damian, which really is an ass. 

The both of them sit down on the mattress. Damian who scratched his hair was feeling awkward about the events that happened seconds ago. All of it makes him conflicted, though he doesn’t want to admit it, he’s afraid to fight them alone since the last war inflicted him a great trauma. 

“Okay, I’ll take you there.” Damian started that made Larcade snap his head to look at him. “But before that, you’ll help me fight the 12 apostles.” It’s not a really good suggestion but it’s a win-win situation for the two of them. The 12 apostles will be defeated and Larcade will be living his life as a human, not as a great sorcerer. Larcade gulps, fighting is the one he really avoids, but if that’s the only condition then he will blindly accept it.

 “If you take me there, then yes.” He said, Larcade admitted to himself that he was feeling scared of what he gets himself into, but the only thing that can get him out is this. 

Neveah’s mouth slowly gaped upon when he heard Larcade’s answer. She admits that Larcade is pretty stubborn in taking a risk but she didn’t expect that he will agree to such plan. Neveah was feeling conflicted as Larcade’s cousin, she wants him to be safe. But, just like Damian said they can’t escape, they have nowhere to run away, eventually, those fallens in the apostles will surely get him. Neveah gulps, nervous for his cousin’s fate and safety. She pursed her lips,

 “I will go too.” She abruptly said which the two, Larcade and Damian stared at her confused. “I and Lucas will go to.,” Larcade and Damian panned their heads to Lucas who has been eating a bag of chips silently, but when he heard his name, he stopped, causing the chip in his hands to fall. With his eyes widening, he stared at Neveah, 

‘Well, shit.’

In the 12 apostle’s headquarters, Cara was standing on the rooftop, enjoying the scenery of the small but beautiful city of Helio. Cara’s phone vibrated, notifying him of a message. It was Natasha. His lover smiled at the goodnight text from her. If only he wasn’t an apostle, he can surely enjoy being with her without any problems, but unfortunately, he was. He sighed gazing at his phone wallpaper. His wallpaper was Natasha and Him smiling at the camera. One look at the picture you can truly tell that they were in love. 

Suddenly the door of the rooftop swung open revealing Astrid, he hid his phone. Astrid who noticed it chuckled approaching Cara. She stands close to him but Cara moved away, this made her scowl. 

“So, you’re still with that human girl, huh?” Astrid said with a smirk on his face, Cara just ignored her not wanting to talk to her. “What will happen if Mabuz knows about her, she will surely get killed.” Cara finally snapped his head to Astrid looking annoyed. Astrid felt satisfaction run to her body as Cara finally have his attention to her. 

“My, Isn’t that troublesome?” She said with a scoff. “You really love her,” Astrid said with a terrifying expression that made Cara shiver. Cara gritted his teeth, having enough he was about to walk away when suddenly a voice behind him was heard. They both look in the voice’s direction and saw the 2nd apostle, Neo Cretillon. They flinched and kneel to pay their respects, but Neo didn’t pay attention to them. 

He was staring at the beautiful nights of the city, like stars that weren’t in the sky. “Love, huh?” He stated. 

Cara and Astrid looked at him confused. “I never even like someone.” He sighed with a sad expression. ‘I want to feel the feeling of love but then again no one has ever amused me.’ He thought, feeling hopeless. 

He was about to walk away when he noticed Cara and Astrid kneeling Infront of him, he slightly jumps wondering when did they get there. ‘He didn’t even notice us? How long has he been in dazed?’ The both of them thought, dumbfounded. A gush of cold wind blows, resulting in their hair and clothes getting messed. 

Both Cara and Astrid knelt down, not daring to move an inch. Neo stared at them for a second. “You two are dating?” He said with a monotone voice. Not sure if he’s interested or just caught up in the heat of the moment. “No, we’re not, sir,” Cara answered immediately upon questioning.

 Astrid gives him a side-eye feeling hurt. “ Really?” Neo tried to confirm it. 

Cara only nod. Because of the presence in front of him, he was under pressure, he tried not to do anything that can make him mad. Although both apostles really don’t have any idea what was his personality, the mere fact that he was the 2nd one made them give all the respect they had. 

“Why are you still kneeling?”  Both of them flinched. They slightly moved their head upwards, still hesitant.  They saw his vibrant purple eyes that glow, his silver hair moves as the wind blows. A perfect scene with the city lights behind him. Both of them were mesmerized by his beauty, too surreal if you ask both lower rank apostles. 

“Rise,” 

Neo said without any further ado, both of them stand erect though it did not change anything since Neo was still towering over them. Still looking below them.  His height contributes to the intimidating feeling felt by the two. 

“Kneeling and paying respect is only appropriate to do in the presence of the king.” He said, turning his back on the two. “I'm not qualified to have your respects.” He said.

 Cara noticed a thing in his voice, it somehow felt bitter. He did not dare to question what he was curious instead he just stand there, not knowing what to do. “Why?” Neo said after a second of silence.

Astrid and Cara looked at each other before panning their heads back onto his broad back. He slightly turned his head. His purple eye is visible to them.

“Because I would never take two useless shits like you in my stead.”

 With a sinister look. A sudden pressure felt on the entire rooftop. Cara and Astrid shivered because of what they felt. They whimper as an unknown force is taking their energy slowly. “Let me tell you something”

“From the way you talk and from the way you act. Your feelings and activities that you've done. We knew it all.” He said in a whisper his voice resonates both of the lower ranks apostle’s ears.

With seconds of desperate attempt to get away, the pressure vanished as if it was never there. The culprit was also nowhere to be found. Cara looks and scans his surroundings. His actions confirmed that the 2nd apostle already left. Astrid tried to regain his composure. She hold onto Cara’s arms, wanting to be held up. Cara shoved her not wanting to feel her touch. Astrid expected his actions but it doesn’t mean that she wasn’t hurt.

Cara who had enough for the night decided to leave the place. But he was halted because of Astrid’s chuckle. He felt offended. He turned his back to face her again with a glare.  Astrid who was shoved by Cara was sitting casually on the dirty floor. She had this knowing smirk that made Cara have an urge to erase it or even punch it

. “ It seems that the higher ranks knew your shenanigans with Nekane.” She said with confidence trying to irk up the man even more. 

“What?” Cara’s voice filled with annoyance as he watch Astrid help herself to stand up. 

“On what Neo said.” She said walking up to him. ‘Neo? This rat! she would never dare to call him so casually in front of him like that.’ Cara thought sending curses with his mind to the said woman.

 “I bet the higher up also knew what you have with that filthy human.” Astrid placed her hand on Cara’s chest feeling him up. Cara felt disgusted, smacking her hand. A visible red appeared on the back of her slender hands. 

“Don’t touch me,” Cara warned her. He emits his magic aura to intimidate the said woman. 

“And don’t ever mention my relationship with her again.” He spat on her face before walking away leaving Astrid on the rooftop. Not noticing her anger building up.
