Chapter 14: Big Step for the Journey

A white luminous creature was hiding behind every building he can see, afraid to show itself in front of the humans. Limping because of his wound, he whimpers. The creature who has an appearance of a lion sat down in a dark alley away from the street and humans. He licks its wound hoping that it would heal, but no matter how he does it several times his efforts are useless. The pain is currently spreading into his paws. The lion winces.

Suddenly a cackle was heard in the alley, A pale-gray-haired man was approaching the lion, it was Hyen, the 5th apostle’s lackey. Hyen was tasked to capture the white lion, which was one of the collections and possess of the 5th apostle, Shan Witchell. The white lion was prisoned when it was still a cub and raised in captivity after it’s awakened, the white lion rampages the prison and was able to escape. Unfortunately for the white lion, the 5th apostle took a liking to him.

The white lion gets his guard up and growled at the upcoming enemy. The man halted his steps sensing the immense danger if he would attack foolishly. He stares at the white lion, noticing the deep wound on its leg and smirk. ‘I wouldn’t have to worry about fighting this big guy.’ 

He showed his claws, readying himself to pounce on the big lion. The lion watches his every move before dashing towards him, however, Hyen dodged his attack and swung his hand. It pierced into the lion’s flesh which made it shriek. “Now, now, if you make so much noise, those people that you wanted to avoid, will definitely hear your painful screams.”

The lion fell to the ground, moaning because of the pain, the lion stands up trembling because of the painful stings on his wound. He growled again; the lion was hell-bent on attacking Hyen. It begins to emit its magic aura, planning to attack its enemy with its magic power, but Hyen just giggled amused by the lion’s efforts. 

A magic beam was released on his mouth directing to Hyen, but he ducks avoiding the attack and proceeding to sprint to the lion, but suddenly a yellow barrier makes its appearance protecting the white lion. Hyen widened his eyes and jumps backing away, squinting his eyes when he saw a silhouette.

When the silhouette’s appearance was visible enough, Hyen widened his eyes when he saw the man. A ram’s horns, vibrant yellow eyes, and a tail, it was a demon. Hyen step back, confused. But he quickly hides his uneasiness. He laughs, wanting to intimidate the sudden visitor. “So, who do we have here?” He covers up his eyes, disbelief at what was happening. 

“A demon protecting a creature? Now, that’s unexpected.” His expression fell into a serious manner. 

The demon smirk, “Don’t worry this won’t take long.” He smiles, making Hyen annoyed. 

‘The audacity of this lowlife’ Hyen gritted his teeth.  He can’t believe that a demon was living in this city, he thought that they were no longer wanted to partake in the affairs of the Sorcerers, creatures, and the fallens. He stands there not knowing what to do, clearly, the demon was protecting the wounded white lion and this current situation is troublesome for Hyen. If he failed to capture the white lion, his life will not be spared by his master, the 5th apostle. 

Hyen stared at the demon for a minute long, and then it hit him, the only demon who was still standing is the escaped prisoner, Damian, Isis’ student. The appearance of this demon is matched by the information he got in the headquarters. He breathes a sigh of relief, ‘The demon, Damian escaped the prison with deep wounds, I’m sure that he’s not fully recovered.’ Suddenly three humans ran in Damian’s direction. It was Larcade, Neveah, and Lucas. Worry evident on their faces. 

“What are you three doing here?” Damian snapped at the three of them. “We couldn’t help it!” Neveah said. Hyen was taken aback by the appearance of three humans, nevertheless, he will still attack the things that were blocking his mission.

A while ago, before everything begins, the four, Larcade, Lucas, Neveah, and Damian were still in the car driving, heading to the mall. After they arrive, they notice a crowd of people in the nearby alley in the mall. It was the crime scene. Neveah had this urge to see the scene but then she remembered what the radio said about it, ‘A pile of bird’s corpses was scattered in that alley’ Neveah gulped, feeling sorry for those birds. Larcade surrounds his arms to Neveah and pulled her, they went inside the mall to buy things for their ‘journey’ as Neveah said.  Neveah was still bothered about what she heard on the radio and the crowded alleyways. She shakes her head and slapped both of his cheeks, this made the trio look at her, surprised by her sudden actions. They continue to buy some necessities in which the three guys thought if its really would be necessary. They all went to a shop that sells equipment for camping, Neveah bought some tents, fishing rods, grills.

 “Neveah is this really necessary? “Larcade started, scanning the items she took. “Well, we’re going to see the creatures, so I assume they lived in the forest, and I also assume that they don’t have anything for us to sleep on.” She explained. ‘Well, her assumptions aren’t entirely wrong.’ Damian thought when he heard Neveah’s speculation that creatures lived in the forests.

After that the four of them went to the supermarket store, Neveah who was leading the way was excited, while the other guys trailing behind her were tired. Since Neveah gave them all the heavy bags and tasked them to carry them. They began to sense relief when they temporarily left it in the package counter, but it all washed away when Neveah dragged them again, giving them shopping carts each. She again took everything that she wanted and put it in each shopping cart. She grabbed plenty of meats, vegetables, fruits, can-goods. 

‘Where did she get the money to buy all these things?’ Lucas thought looking horrified by the things that piled into his cart. By this time the trio began to realize that they were beginning to act like Neveah’s servant.

After the tiresome shopping, they headed to the parking lot to place all the bags inside the car. There were many bags to carry and all of them are heavy, and the culprit behind all of this mess was just standing and watching them. The trio glared at her when they finally have the last bag but Neveah just turned a blind eye. They were about to go inside the car when Damian felt a slight magic aura coming from an alley not far from them. The magic aura was weak but Damian was sure that it was a creature’s magic aura. He dashed away not wasting any seconds. He happens to ignore his companions who watch him baffled. 

“Is he running away?” Neveah asked after a moment of silence. 

“Probably, after what you’ve done to us,” Lucas said and It made Neveah annoyed. She grabbed Lucas's hair in which he screamed, Lucas who was in pain also grabbed Neveah’s hair and it made her yelp. Larcade ignored the two and stare at Damian’s back slowly vanishing away. “I think he senses something,” Larcade said that caught the duo’s attention. “Let’s go, he’s the only key to your survival!” Neveah shouted sprinting to where Damian was headed. Lucas stared at Neveah's back and bluntly followed her. Larcade stands there unable to move. 'If he senses something then it's danger' He thought sweat dripping down his face. But, suddenly he remembers Neveah who was the first one to follow Damian. He curses not wanting to go in their direction but still does. The welfare of his cousin is much more important than his hesitance. 

Now, back to the present. Hyen frown not having any ounce of energy to deal with everything. He pursed his lips when the four uninvited visitors bickered in front of him. He rolled his eyes and cleared his throat gaining all of their attention. 

“You there, Demon, are you or are you not the infamous prisoner who escaped by the hands of the fallen?” Hyen asked, making Damian scoff. Hyen who was annoyed by his remark emits a brown magic aura in his left hand, this made Larcade flinch. “Yeah, you’re right,” Damian answered, he also releases his magic aura and said with a grin, 

“The name’s Damian, the late Great Sorceress aspiring student.”
