The four of them walk, heading to the neighbor, water trickles down to their clothes and onto the pavement leaving a trace. Still clutching their bodies, a visible puff of air comes out in their mouth every time they breathe because of the cold. Larcade was the one leading them, behind him was Neveah, and behind Neveah was Damian, behind Damian was Lucas, like a train they headed to Larcade’s home. Their stomps were the only sound. Larcade halted, which caused Neveah to bump into him and Damian to her and Lucas to him. Neveah hissed because of the impact while Damian and Lucas huffed.
“What the hell?” Neveah said, her eyebrows clashed.
“There is still plenty of time to change your mind,” Larcade said grabbing Neveah’s shoulders. He didn’t want them to have a sleepover at his own house.
“Huh?!” Neveah said with a loud voice that cause the guys to cover their ears.
“Are you kidding me?!” Neveah shouted also grabbing his arms and shaking them violently.
“Look at him,” Neveah directed her palms to Damian’s direction, “Look at it!” Neveah shouted near Larcade’s ear almost destroying it. Lucas peeks behind Damian to see what was happening.
“This poor man doesn’t have any home!” Neveah hugged Larcade, saying it with a dramatic voice. “He doesn’t have any mother, brother, sister, or even a little chipmunk.”
All of them stared at her, done by her actions. “He came from an unknown forest to meet you.” Neveah parts to Larcade's body before twirling heading to Damian’s side.
“He is pitiful and he just needs a warm mattress to sleep on.” Neveah wipes her fake tears. “I’m not really—” Neveah put two of her fingers to Damian’s mouth shushing him up. Neveah turns his head to Larcade with an expression of sadness. “Larcade you are this man’s ‘dimmest Light in the darkness, you are his only hope.”
Both of them turn red on what Neveah said. Damian realizes that what he said to Larcade was so embarrassing he can’t help but cringe. Larcade who didn’t want to remember that gives a sour look. Lucas who was behind them seemingly been forgotten just stand there with curious eyes wanting to know what she meant.
“So, if you don’t help him. Then you’re not a man.” Neveah started, giving Larcade a smirk. Larcade who squints his eyes clicked his tongue.
“Call me a man, a squirrel, or an alien, I won’t agree.” Larcade turned around leaving Neveah her mouth open. Neveah’s eyes twitch in annoyance. She started running to Larcade screaming her lungs out. Larcade who was surprised, turn around to see Neveah running at him when he realized what she’s gonna do, he blocked his arms protecting himself but Neveah already kicked her causing them to both fall in the cold hard ground.
“Eat s**t!”
Neveah shouted, repeating it while hitting Larcade’s butt, Larcade returned it, also hitting Neveah’s back they brawl in the ground, dust sticking to their wet clothes. Lucas grimaced in disgust.
“Hey! You, four! it’s the middle of the night! Go to sleep!” An angry lady in some random house shouted, not forgetting to throw a slipper in their direction, hitting Lucas’ head, bouncing to Damian’s head. Both Larcade and Neveah shut their mouth, embarrassed. After being scolded, Larcade didn’t have a choice to agree. When they went to Larcade’s house, his mother’s rant was the one who greeted them, scolding Larcade for being home so late, but she stopped when she noticed Lucas and Damian. His mother stared at Damian for so long, in which Damian felt uncomfortable, looking from left to right, and then her eyes twinkle. Neveah who noticed it frowns. “Oh, such handsome young man!” Larcade’s mother praised Damian.
“Lucas you’re here, too! Are you both going to sleep over here? Then that’s good, I had spare clothes that will fit you!” His mother said, excitement laced on his voice, he has always been weak for a handsome young man since the time she gets addicted to a boy group idol called ‘Bulletproof.’ Neveah wonders if his mom ever noticed her.
The three of the boys are inside Larcade’s room. Damian who was already finished washing up left the bathroom in which Lucas went inside. Larcade organize his things first before, laying two mattresses on the floor. Damian caught a glimpse of something. The books that Larcade brought were hanging in the window letting it dry. Damian took a glance at Larcade who was busy doing something in the mattress before snapping his fingers, the wet books were now dry and looking brand new. Larcade who was surprised turn to Damian, scared because of the sound of snapping fingers. Damian who noticed it looking at Larcade clueless, Larcade took notice of the books that were dry before turning to Damian with a dumbfounded expression.
“Why didn’t you do that when all of us were soaking wet a while ago?” Larcade asked in which Damian pause, confused, recalling the events that happened ago. “I didn’t think of it.” He said, his excuses made Larcade squints his eyes, ‘Is this the same guy that mock those shadow hunters saying that they were idiots?’
“Now, that I took a look at you, I didn’t notice this, but your horns and tails, where did it go?” Larcade said. He was sure that when they were in the mansion Damian’s horns and tails were visible. Larcade didn’t even know that he has a tail before the fight with those hunters.
“I hid it, it would be a problem if humans find out,” Damian said sitting in a nearby chair. “Would it go back? Do you have enough power to maintain a human's appearance?” Damian shakes his head.
“Not for long, it would take a toll on my body.” After Damian said it, his horns and tails magically appeared, Larcade slightly jump in where he was seated when he saw it, ‘I would never get used to that.’ Larcade thought, looking away. The bathroom door open, revealing Lucas who was rubbing his hair, the two of them panned their head to the newly washed Lucas. Lucas who felt their stares, look at them but jump when he saw Damian’s appearance. ‘Holy shit.’ Lucas gulped composing himself. “You have your horns?” He asked.
Lifting his hand and pointing to his hands indicating the horns. “You hid them?” He asked, but Damian didn’t answer since it was obvious. Lucas who takes his silence as a yes nods his head, ‘I didn’t even notice.’ After that all three of them went silent, awkwardness filled the room. They wonder when will Neveah come since she’s the only one who can break this atmosphere, ‘Where’s that girl when we needed her the most?’ They all thought, all three of them panning their heads in every direction, looking for something to amuse them.
Suddenly the door swung open revealing Neveah with newly fresh pajamas and a bag full of chips and game boards. ‘Thank Goodness, she’s here.’ They thought a sense of relief washing upon them. She sat down on the mattress with a sigh as she was tired from her short journey. All three of the guys watch her as she lifts the bags, holding the bottom, all of the chips fell, rusting each other. The three were confused, but after some second Lucas approached her and steal a bag of chips, Neveah slapped his hand, the chips fell again as Lucas shakes his hand feeling the pain. After swatting Lucas’ hands, he looks at Larcade then at Damian then at Lucas, and smiled weirdly. Larcade, Damian, and Lucas felt uneasiness because of her smile.
“You three didn’t even initiate a conversation right?” Neveah said as her smile turn into a wide grin. Lucas gulps, “We talked.” He said disagreeing with her, Larcade and Damian nod, all three of them embarrassed to admit. Well who would’ve wanted to imagine, three guys with no sort of relation to each other talk like casual boys on a basketball court, not them.
“What did you talk about?” Neveah leaned her head close to Lucas in which Lucas moved away. “Things.” Larcade said Neveah dart her attention to her, swiftly moving her head, she hums, “Oh? What things?” Neveah smirked. “Many things.” Neveah panned her head to Damian before laughing out loud.
Knowing that the three of them just talk for just 5 seconds. Lucas hiss at her, he begins to open the bag of chips and place it carefully onto the mattress, scared that it might spill. Larcade sits beside Neveah, picking up some random chip in the process. Neveah noticed Damian wasn’t moving an inch, raised her hands telling him to come. Damian grumbled silently sitting on the mattress.
They talked about things that sound dumb to Damian, though he won’t admit it, he was having fun listening to them. They played board games in which Damian find it difficult to understand but still won. After their fun, all of them scattered, laying on the mattress. Some of them yawning feeling sleepy.
After some silence, they heard a sigh coming from Larcade. “What’re you going to do if I accept it?” Larcade who randomly ask out of nowhere glance at Damian. Damian who was taken aback sit straight and also looked at Larcade baffled, the remaining two just laid there also watching them. “I’m going to take my revenge.” He said casually.
Thought saying it might be easy but doing it, that’s hard, even though it’s been 20 years and feeling tired in the process, he would never again think of giving up, knowing that it will put Isis’ death in vain. Larcade clicked his tongue, that he was right when he guessed that this would be his answer. Taking the situation seriously, Larcade lifts himself sitting up.
“You said that Isis was the one who transferred his powers onto me. So, there might be a possibility to also get it out.” Larcade started all three of them stared at him, it was making sense, Lucas and Neveah sat up wanting to watch the entire situation comfortably,
“I don’t think so, it’s only impossible for Isis since she is the Great Sorceress.” Damian who gives a logical answer made Lucas and Neveah panned their heads to him, nodding expressing that they agree.
“We don’t know that, there might be a more powerful being capable of doing it.” Larcade refute, in which Damian huffed feeling conflicted. Lucas and Neveah panned their heads to Larcade nodding in agreement. Damian rubbed his hair in frustration,
“The 12 apostles are powerful enough to kill all of your comrades, fighting them head-on with yourself, will only lead to a suicide,” Larcade stated, sensing Damian’s frustration he let his guard up. “And, I would not accept the path to become as the great sorcerer or whatever it is if it’s only for revenge.” Larcade finishes his statement.
Damian knew that, that’s why he wanted to convince him to fight with him because the moment he would get awakened is the moment that all of the 12 apostles would perish but then again he can’t hold onto that assumption since the 12 apostles actions are starting to make him suspicious after those two hunters appeared. “Then what’re you going to do?” He asked, interested in Larcade’s decision.
“Since you are a demon, are there any other beings that may be powerful enough?” Larcade started. Damian gulped, the only thing he can think of are the CREATURES, just like the words stated creatures. Supernatural being capable of having supernatural powers, their appearances can go from trees or even animals. The creatures may be the only ones he can think of and maybe get their aid. But. It’s been 20 years since he has last seen a creature, especially that they are also have lost most of their comrades of the last war of sorcerers and Fallen.
“I’m not entirely sure but there are some.” Damian look at Larcade and saw his expression turned relief. “They are called Creatures; they have been the trustiest aid of the sorcerer for hundreds of years. But the problem is,” Larcade blinks, scared of what he would say next.
“I don’t know if they are still here.” Neveah squints his eyes, trying to understand what he meant, “What do you mean?”
She asked. Damian looks at her, “It’s been 20 years since I last saw them, and for what I can remember they are also have lost many of their comrades due to the last war.” Damian looks down recalling the crisis that he experienced 20 years ago. “But you know where their place is, right?” Larcade said, catching Damian’s attention.
“If we could just at least try, there might be some hope.” Damian stared at him, mixed feelings rushing to his entire body.
