Chapter 38 : A scarlet Will

“Hey, lab rat! You should not speak to the 6th apostle like that!” The scientist scream at the top of his lungs but stop when he heard the woman chuckle beside him.

“The name’s Scarlet Yale, It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

She said with a grin. And the twins noticed the visible fang teeth she had when she smiled. Loki Eve and Lyn felt the immense pressure the woman give off. She was calm yet her demeanors were hiding a very dangerous thing.

“Scarlet?!” Nekane’s loud voice was filled with shock. He immediately bows to pay respect to the woman who has a higher rank than him. Scarlet watches as Nekane acts obediently. A smirk comes out of her lips as she notices Nekane avoiding her eyes. She felt satisfied with his reaction to getting caught.

“I didn’t know you had something big going on behind our backs, Nekane” Scarlet put her hands on Nekane’s wide shoulder. He slightly flinches at the sudden contact. “You even went and use humans,” Scarlet scans Loki and the twins up and down. They felt an ominous power coming from her stares. It would be a lie for Loki if he says that the woman in front of him was not intimidating because, hell, she is. Her calm demeanor makes it more frightening.

“A test,” Nekane started, sorting out different excuses to not let his main objective obvious. Scarlet’s smirk turns into a frown. “I was testing if it really works. Working on humans, I mean. Transferring a sorcerer's blood on their bodies.” He said. His cold sweats that were forming on his forehead was indicating that he was dead nervous about Scarlet finding out.

“A test, huh?” Scarlet walks down towards Loki. Stopping in front of him, Scarlet raised her arms to touch Loki’s cheek. Loki felt uncomfortable because of her touch but he didn't avoid it. Because if he do, he wouldn’t know what will happen next. ‘This woman is much higher than the buffalo behind her,’ Loki thought stealing a glance at Nekane who was nervously staring at them. ‘Where’s that arrogant attitude bastard?!’ Loki thought while glaring at the said man. Scarlet noticed this and it made her chuckle.

“A feisty one, huh?” Loki focuses his attention on the woman in front of him. Scarlet smiled before patting his head. Loki’s eyebrows clashed at her closeness. “He reminds me of that stray demon,” Scarlet said before looking back at Nekane. Her blue eyes glowing, piercing through Nekane’s body. “So you actually used him?” Scarlet asked amused.

“He was a rare type. Demons are not something that you’ll see every day.” Nekane slowly felt his confidence on behalf of the former great sorceress student. Indeed, Damian was a very rare type of demon. Demons don’t usually interact with sorcerers or any kind of beings. Demons are mysterious and so few of them are often seen. And as nature of Sorcerers, Demons are meant to be killed. Filthy beings that are destined to die, as sorcerers believe. But in Damian’s case, he was adopted by the Great Sorceress and can even wield a magic aura that no demons can do. So Nekane did not miss the opportunity to use him.

“I must say, it’s a smart move,” Scarlet complimented him that making Nekane slightly proud of himself. Scarlet takes a seat back on the chair she formerly sat on. “Then, let me borrow them.”

Scarlet smiles as if what she says did not impact on the people present there.”Pardon me?” Nekane wanted confirmation on what she said. He only just got them like for one day and now it would be coveted from someone who he cannot decline. “I meant what I said, let me borrow them, I have lacking personnel on my business,” Scarlet said nonchalantly. Nekane was still taken aback at what she said.

“I’m happy that they are suitable for you to want them, but my experiments still haven’t had any experiences in working place like that since they only woke up just 3 days ago-” Nekane tried to decline her in a way that he knows is formal “And, as you can see, three of their companions are down in whatsoever reason” Nekane only realized the three unconscious in the bed filled with bruises. He steal a glance at Loki and the twins and their appearance was evident that they were fighting.

Scarlet’s face was contoured with a scowl, “So?” She said, one of her brows raised up. “Umm--” Nekane tried to find an excuse to let her leave the idea be and give up but Scarlet was a strong opponent and she won't ever back down until she get what she wants. She stood up and walk towards the unconscious three. Their faces were full of marks and bruises. Scarlet flicked his hands and bright white light came appearing out of it. It dances around before dividing into three. The three rays of white light then went inside the unconscious one’s body. Suddenly, in a matter of seconds, their bruises were instantly gone as if it didn't happen in the first place. Loki and the twins widen their eyes. ‘Healing ability?’ They thought as they look at the woman who still standing in front of the sleeping Alex, Ava, and Naki.

“Rise,” She commanded. Like a puppet with their strings pulled upward, their bodies sit up. But it was not something that the three did with themselves. A couple of seconds pass by and the unconscious three slowly open their eyes, regaining their selves and adjusting their visions because of the bright light in the room. ‘They instantly regained their consciousness the moment she commanded,’ Loki thought, awestruck by her healing abilities. Nekane stood there as Scarlet tend to his own experiments. A sudden bitterness was what felt of their huge gap in abilities.

“What happened?” Ava said with a groan. She was having a headache the moment she woke up and it was the same for the remaining two. Scarlet panned her head to Loki and the twins. She was expecting them to greet their comrades but they only stood there like lamposts.

“It should be me who’ll ask that, what happened to all of you?” Nekane’s voice was filled with anger yet he tried his best to conceal it. His efforts were not appreciated since it was so obvious. His tone and the way he said it with gritted teeth, anyone can really tell that he was angry. All of them fell silent for a couple of seconds, “We fought with the demon you requested us to find,” Loki was the one who break the atmosphere. Scarlet glance at him. His personality piqued her interest. ‘A young boy with a rebellious attitude,’ She stared at him. A slight pink was painted on her cheeks. The twins noticed her reaction and it made them frown.

“Demon?” Scarlet regained her complexion and asked Nekane for an explanation. “This demon would be?” Nekane look at her but avoided locking eyes with her. “Isis’ student,” Nekane ended. Scarlet was confused for a second, “Why? You want to be in lead to capture the successor?” Scarlet marched her way to Nekane, “Feeling a little brave now are we Nekane?” She said her blue eyes glowing as a sudden pressure was felt in the entire room. “Want to have the power for yourself?” Scarlet’s face was filled with bloodlust. Nekane backed up.

“No- no I do it for the team,” Nekane said in between stutters. The ones present in the room were amused by Nekane’s reaction. Like an obedient dog. Loki felt somehow satisfied to finally get the arrogant bastard to know his place. Scarlet halted. She was dumbfounded at what he said that made her stop momentarily. She put her fingers to her temple, indicating that she was done with Nekane. She exhaled. “You first went out of our back to make human enhancements and now you tasked them to find the escaped demon, isn’t that scream full sus?” Scarlet said. Her calm demeanor was slowly vanishing as she converses with Nekane. She was feeling that Nekane's idiocy was contagious. ‘You are full brawns with no brains,’ She thought.

Loki watches the scene in front of him. ‘Too bad she didn’t kill him.’ Loki felt dismayed at the thought. “ Well, whatever,” She said as she flipped her scarlet hair. Some strands of it hit Nekane’s face that made him slightly react. “Let me borrow your prize guard dogs and if you won’t there be hell to pay,” Scarlet announced, walking away.

“It would be bad for you, If Mabuz and Deniera were to know about your whole scheme, no?” Scarlet glances at Nekane. “So suck it up and obey me like an obedient puppy,” She smiled but anyone can see that it was sinister. She walked away out of the room leaving Nekane and the others standing there staring at where she went off to.
